I use an awl: tap the straight end with a small hammer in a vise so that the pinhead just comes up from the surface. Then use flush diagonal cutters under the pinhead and rotate the pin out. The

Once I remove the drive pin- I throw it away. The hole size for the drive pin is spot on for a #2-56 tap. After tapping both sides, I use SS 2-56X 1/4" hex head screws to fix the hood to the plug.
