Re: DTSC CODES....

The codes 450 and 460 aren't found in CHIRP because they aren't found in the UV-5R. CHIRP cannot make a radio support a code that it isn't capable of supporting.

The UV-5R, like most radios, only supports the common DCS codes. If you have a radio that is using other codes, then it is including non-standard codes

There are something like 512 possible DTS codes. The way they are coded, many of them are duplicates. This is why the list of standard tones is much smaller. It removes the duplicates.

The following are the 'common' DTCS codes that are supported by CHIRP

# 104 DTCS Codes
DTCS_CODES = (
??? 23,? 25,? 26,? 31,? 32,? 36,? 43,? 47,? 51,? 53,? 54,
??? 65,? 71,? 72,? 73,? 74,? 114, 115, 116, 122, 125, 131,
??? 132, 134, 143, 145, 152, 155, 156, 162, 165, 172, 174,
??? 205, 212, 223, 225, 226, 243, 244, 245, 246, 251, 252,
??? 255, 261, 263, 265, 266, 271, 274, 306, 311, 315, 325,
??? 331, 332, 343, 346, 351, 356, 364, 365, 371, 411, 412,
??? 413, 423, 431, 432, 445, 446, 452, 454, 455, 462, 464,
??? 465, 466, 503, 506, 516, 523, 526, 532, 546, 565, 606,
??? 612, 624, 627, 631, 632, 654, 662, 664, 703, 712, 723,
??? 731, 732, 734, 743, 754,
)

Baofeng and many other Chinese radios use this list of 104 codes and add an additional code (645), to make it 105 codes. Then these codes can be inverted to create a list of 210 available DTCS(DCS) codes.

A lot of times when a non-standard code is being used, it is possible to program the common code that is a duplicate of it. Unfortunately the D450N does not have a match with any of the common codes, so you are out of luck. No tones or codes are needed for listening, so at least you can program no CTCSS tone or DCS code and listen to the traffic on channel 3.

D460N does have some common duplicates. You could program channel 4 of the the UV-5r with D654N or D743I. Either will work perfectly with D460N.

DTSC CODES....

Hey folks I'm not even sure this is the right place to ask my question but I can't seem to find the information I need anywhere?on the net. I've been working?on moving channel information from a Kenwood to a Baofeng and it's been a learning process.? I got the first two channels to work, however when I went to enter the last two I found that I couldnt find them in CHIRP. So why can't I find D450and 460????? I thought I found something about channels that were basically duplicates but 450 and 460 werent listed.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Re: Yaesu FT-4Xr

Neal,
Thanks, and you described the issue much better than I did!? The FT4XR is shown as supported on the chirp website, and I've found websites that talk about using chirp to program it, but nothing that says how to work around the bug.? I'm hoping that someone on this list has figured it out...

Yaesu FT-4Xr

I bought a Yaesu FT-4Xr last month, but ran into errors reading from and writing to it with chirp.? I can read and write with the Yaesu software, but it's pretty bare bones (and I'm running it on VirtualBox/Windows, so it is incredibly slow).
Are folks able to program this radio with chirp (preferably on Linux, but Windows works too)?? If yes, is there some particular build needed, or some setting that isn't obvious?? I've used chirp on several different radios over the years and this is the first time I've been unable to use it to program a radio.
Thanks.

Re: ICOM IC-2820H uploading issue

To add to what I said, I found a forum thread on EEVBLOG that discusses the fake
Prolific chips, and there seems to be a work-around, using an older driver
intended for Win 7 64 bit. You would want version 3.3.2.105 of the driver. If
it doesn't remove the newer driver, you can do that yourself, then install the
older driver, and restart. Check Device Manager to be sure it's using the old
version. You may have to roll back the driver to use the older one.

(pl2303)-usb-serial-adapters/

(You may need to copy and paste the entire URL since my email reader doesn't
look like it continued the link after the first parenthesis.)

This is only something you may want to do if you think you have a fake Prolific
cable. There are other chips that work well, and the FDTI chip is the most
common, and I haven't read of any driver issues. There's yet another chip that's
a Chinese one, and you have to search for a driver for it. I have an "octopus"
cable with 8 different ends on it on one side, and a USB end on the part that
connects to the PC. It works well, too. But I had to find a forum thread
somewhere that had a link to the driver.

Two things come to mind. This is based on my experience with a Baofeng HT, but
it might also apply to your radio.

With some radios, you need to open the volume control enough to allow the data
signals to be strong enough to be processed by the radio. One user claimed that
it has to be set at a medium level, and that with the volume full on, it also
doesn't work. I am not sure the last part is correct, but if you haven't tried
this, it certainly won't hurt.

The other thing that comes to mind is the data cable. With the Baofeng, if you
don't buy a cable that says it uses a Prolific chip in it. The Prolific driver
recognizes fakes, and there are a lot of fakes being sold. If it's fake, it
won't be recognized by the driver. The safer bet is to buy a cable with an FTDI
chip. The safest of all is to buy the radio maker's official cable. In the case
of the Baofeng, the branded cable is cheap, so there's no reason to skimp on
price. The most you'd save is maybe $4.

So if you haven't considered the cable or the volume control setting, take a
look and see if either of these might be why you're not getting results. My
experience is on a different radio, but the cable issue could be with any radio.
With the volume control, it might not be an issue with all radios.

ICOM IC-2820H uploading issue

The ICOM IC-2820H is on the list of supported rigs for CHIRP.? I was able to successfully download from the radio into my Windows 10 PC running CHIRP.? I could manipulate the .img file on CHIRP.? However I've had no luck uploading from CHIRP into the radio.?

I checked old tickets on DANPLANET and I know this was an issue with the original CHIRP.? ?I've tried using several different USB-Serial adapters with no luck.?

Anyone have any success uploading to this radio from CHIRP??

Re: How does one add a radio to the list of supported radios?

The CHIRP 'Supported Radio Models' list is on the CHIRP home page ( ). The FRG-9600 is not on that list.

How does one add a radio to the list of supported radios?

I read online that Chirp supports the Yaesu receiver? model FRG-9600.
It is not however in the drop down list. I am a new user of Chirp. Are there other lists of radios supported? How does one go about adding a radio to the list.
Thanks for reading this.

Yaesu FRG-9600 Chirp help needed.

If you have been able to utilize Chirp with the Yaesu receiver model FRG-9600 using the Yaesu FIF-232C interface I would like to message you with a few questions.
Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Re: What does "Select band plan" (under the "Radio" menu) do?

Thanks for the very complete reply, Jim!

So the band plan works as a sort of "tip sheet" to add? helpful defaults etc to the other settings. Will keep that in mind!

Cheers,?

I never messed with that menu item. I don't think you need to change anything.Just download from the radio database, save the original state, then makechanges as you wish, save those changes under a different name, and then upload. Some radios need the volume control opened wide before doing anything since theyuse the audio circuit for the data path. I believe some radios don't need thatdone. I read somewhere that I needed to do that on my Baofeng UV-5R so I did.
Thanks for the tips. FTR, my radio is a Quansheng UV-K5, works with the volume at any point.?

What makes a difference is where in the world you are located. If you are in North America you want the North American Band Plan. It takes the IARU 2 band plan and adds data based on the ARRL band plan. Recently it has had included frequency data for the FRS, GMRS and MURS radios services.

What having the correct band plan selected does for CHIRP users that are amateur radio operators is that CHIRP will be able to preset some settings for you. For example when a ham in the USA keys in a 2 meter frequency such at 146.640 MHz, based on the North American band plan CHIRP will know that this is a repeater output and that the input offset is -0.600 MHz. CHIRP will use these values to preset the Duplex and Offset fields for you.

Re: Chirp Issues

I did find a way to fix my issue.? I copied the frequency column and pasted it to the Name column now my repeater list has two columns with frequencies in it but on my handheld the display shows frequencies instead of callsigns as I want it to.? May not be the most elegant way but it works.
