Re: Help Program Yaesu FT-65R with Chirp

You want to be using CHIRP-next, not legacy CHIRP. Legacy CHIRP hasn't been developed for over a year.

With CHIRP-next, access to the debug.log file is as easy as clicking Help in the menu bar and then selecting the "Open debug log" in the drop down menu.

There is not need to send the debug.log to me. I don't own or use Yaesu radios, so I would not be the one that would normally assist you. This is why you need to open a ticket on the CHIRP website. There is nothing that can be done here on an unofficial social media group.

I am not certain how valid this is, but prolific based cables are famous for not working. Most are counterfeit. The recommended alternative are FTDI based cables.

Re: Help Program Yaesu FT-65R with Chirp

To all who responded so far. It's something to do with this Win 10 computer I'm using. The cable and radio, and a legacy version of Chirp, work just fine using my son's Win 10 MS Surface. Same driver on both computers. We also used the New Chirp, and programming software from Yaesu. Same results. Won't work on mine, all work just fine on his. So exactly what the issue is with my HP laptop and is unknown. Will do some more digging when I get home and report back. Jim, I'll look for a debug log and if I find one I'll send it to you. 73, Richard AG5M

Help Program Yaesu FT-65R with Chirp

I cannot get my brand new Yaesu FT-65R to program using Chirp and the Yaesu SCU-59 programming cable.? I am in Memory mode.

?

Windows 10, Device manager shows ¨C Prolific PL2303GC USB Serial COM Port (COM4)

?

When I use Chirp, I get the following error message

?

Failed to communicate with radio: Incorrect echo on serial port. Radio off?? Bad cable?

?

And the display on the radio shows:? Clone OK.

?

Obviously it¡¯s not OK.? I¡¯m dumbfounded.? This is the first time I have ever had a problem using Chirp to program my radios, various Baofeng, Alinco, and even Yaesu FT-818ND.? So I¡¯m not exactly new at this.? Only having a problem with my new HT.

?Can Anyone help me on this?? Or is everyone using RT systems software??

Thanks, Richard AG5M

Re: Separate ctcss tones for TYT TH-9800

Apparently not. If the radio supported split tones, then there would be a Cross Mode column and Tone Mode would have a Cross selection. CHIRP can't make a radio do anything that it doesn't support.

Separate ctcss tones for TYT TH-9800

Is it possible in Chirp to have a transmit and separate receive ctcss tone for a frequency?? If so how do I program that?

Re: chirp-next 20240130 FT-8900

IMO, just allowing input of frequencies is not really supporting the radio, it is a downgrade from the from the, again in my opinion, previous serviceable version of Chirp, pre-chirp-next.

That said, thank you for your reply.

Re: chirp-next 20240130 FT-8900

That is all that is supported for the FT-8900. It is up to the volunteer developer as to how much effort (s)he puts in to supporting a radio and how much of its features are supported.

There are no timetables, per se. It is just a matter of a volunteer developer having access to the physical radio, factory programming software and the desire to do the work that is required for development process.

chirp-next 20240130 FT-8900

I have installed the above on Windows 10. When I open an FT-8900 image I have 1 tab: Memories.
When I open a 7900 image I have I have Memories, Banks and Settings. Is the 8900 not fully supported yet and if not is there some timetable?

Re: TYT TH-9800 issue on Linux X86 version

hmm. Does Britty use a different package name?
I did: dpkg -l | grep -i bri
and got nothing that looks like what you are talking about.
I'd be happy to have a clean fix like this.

Yes. It looks like you are wrong.

1. I did a clean install of the latest Linux Mint
2. installed CHIRP-next following the instructions on the Running CHIRP on Linux page
3. logged out and back in to activate the serial port permissions
4. downloaded from a UV-5R that was handy

Your issue may be due to still having the Britty screen reader package installed. Britty, which I think Mint installs by default, seems to cause problems with ttyUSB0. During the install, I had unticked the box at the prompt asking if I was going to use the Britty screen reader. This seemed to be enough to keep it from causing issues for me (so I didn't have to add any steps to remove it).

Hi.
Using Chirp, can you assign memories to each scan list? I can only seem to do this via the front panel and can't see any option in Chirp to do it.

TYT TH-9800 issue on Linux X86 version

I copied the NEW software down to? my Linux Mint laptop.

1. I fired up the Chirp program
2. did a dmesg --follow to see what was going on, plugged in the cable, (it said it was attached to /dev/ttyUSB0
3. menu item to download from the radio
4. no devices at all show up. but there's a help me item. Doesn't work. I enter /dev/ttyUSB0. Doesn't work. Nothing I do works.

So, I go into my closet, and bring down the ONLY laptop I have with Windoze 10 on it. And do the same thing.
1. installed the NEW chirp program
2. plugged in the cable, Device Manager said it was COM4
3. menu item to download from the radio
4. no devices show up, I manually put in COM4
5. it works.

I have come to the conclusion that the NEW Chirp program is BROKEN on Linux, but works on Windoze.
I, of course, would prefer NOT to have to drag then Windoze laptop out to do what use to work good on my Linux systems.

Am I wrong? If so, what didn't I do that would change my mind?

This radio only has a single bank of 200 memories. What you are referring to are the A and B display lines, not "banks". Like most Chinese radios, there is nothing provided in the radio for separating the memories by display line. The best you can do would be something like programming VHF frequencies into memories 1-100 and UHF frequencies into memories 101-200. Then only select memories 1-100 in the top (A) display line and memories 101-200 in the bottom (B) display line.

Re: csv power column

The "Power" column works like this. When imported, the value in the CSV will be replaced by the closest match in the radio. So when imported to a UV-82HP which has choices of LOW (1 watt), MID (4 watts) and HIGH (8 watts), the TXP for that channel will be set to HIGH (because 8 is closer to 50 then 1 or 4 is. If the CSV file is imported to a QYT KT980Plus which has choices of LOW (55 watts) and HIGH (75 watts), the TXP for that channel will be set to LOW (because 55 is closer to 50 than 75 is).

What you are missing is that the fields of the 'Power' column can't be empty. You can change them all to 1 watt if you want so that virtually every radio that you import it into will be set to LOW. It is only when you leave the field empty that the field will be changed to the default, which happens to be 50.

csv power column

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

A csv file that I built will be blended with the downloaded images of several different radios. The "Power" column defaults to 50W, but handhelds aren't capable of that much power, of course. I try to delete the value to let the radio operator select a minimal power level at the time of choosing any given memory location, but CHIRP next-20231016 csv editing insists on a value.

How to deal with this, please?

Re: DTSC CODES....

Thank you very much I can't speak to how the Kenwood was programmed for non standard codes we've had them in use at work for at least 10 years so it's lost in the fog of time.? Does anything change if the radio is a UV-9r pro programming as a UV-82 something I can't remember what now lol.
We rarely use anything but channel 1 so it doesn't break my heart not to have transmission on 3.? Thanks for the help!!
