Re: Wouxum Q10H

Tim,

This is a self-help group, independent from the developers at CHIRP. No one from
CHIRP monitors this group as far as I know. However, someone here might have an
inside scoop on how to join their beta team.

If no one has that information, look over the CHIRP website for a contact and
try that.

Thanks Jim, I thought that I had selected "SECOND GEN", but it turned out that I didn't... Works great now!

The "Radio identification failed." error is usually present when a new model ID starts shipping and it is unknown to CHIRP. Although this is possible, it is unlikely because Baofeng Tech (the radio dealer in the USA) is very good about providing CHIRP this information before the radios with new model IDs are offered for sale.

One thing that I have seen done by new owners of the GEN2 models that have replaced the original UV-25X2, UV-25X4 and UV-50X2 models? are mistakenly choosing the model for the replaced models (UV-25X2/UV-25X4/UV-50X2) instead of choosing the '_G2' model selection specifically for the new models (which should have the words 'SECOND GEN' below the model number on the radio's badge). This would cause the same "Radio identification failed." error because the radio IDs returned by the new models are not accepted when choosing to read from previous version.

So without seeing the debug.log, my guess is that you have a 'SECOND GEN' model and aren't choosing the 'UV-25X2_G2' model selection. However, if I am wrong and the first paragraph above applies, then you need to open a ticket and include the debug.log file so the radio ID can be identified and added to CHIRP.

I am trying to get a download image from the radio and am getting the dreaded Radio Identification Failed using the Btech programming cable. I have verified the use of the correct driver which is seeing the connection on COM4. Does the Data port on the back of the radio need to be enabled, or am I missing something else?

Re: Legacy vs. new

Hi Jerry,

Please take the time to read the "Why is this necessary?" section of the CHIRP-next page.

Then the "How can you help" section

I went though the more that 130 radio models that I have here to get them over the hurdle. Many other volunteer developers did the same. But we don't have every model available us that was affected by the forced update.

So for the models that we don't have access to, we depend on owners of the physical hardware to open a ticket and then participate in the testing and development that is required to get these radios over the hurdle, too.

That can happen only on the official website (chirpmyradio.com), not here on an unofficial social media forum.

Jerry,

This is a self-help group. no one from the CHIRP dev team monitor this group.
You should feed your comments back to them from the CHIRP website.

Your new chirp looks nice but it doesn't work.

1. I tried the new version again with my FT-8800, and no matter what I
tried it errored out with a frame 0 error.

2. Same radio same exact Linux system, works fine on the lagacy system.

So either fix the new system or never get rid of legacy.

Re: Changing Radios

Hi Bob,

You can't directly upload a CHIRP Radio Images (*.img) file from a Baofeng radio into a Wouxun radio (or the other way around). It can only go bck into the same radio model type that it came from. This is why the Model selection is not editable (greyed out).

One method you can use is to take advantage of CHIRP's multi-tab interface. You download from both radios to create a tab for each
radio (or load a previously saved 'image' from one or both radios). Then you can copy-and-paste the memory rows between tabs. Finally you
upload each tab back to the same radio it came from originally.

Another method is to have the data from the 'source' radio saved as an 'image' file. Then create a tab for the 'destination' radio by either
downloading from it or loading a previously saved 'image' from it. Then you can import the 'source' radio's image into the 'destination'
radio's tab. Then upload the tab back into the radio that it came from.

I would recommend that you watch these videos:

Changing Radios

Getting more comfortable with CHIRP.

Figuring out how to do most of what I want to do at the moment.

The question I have now is that I have 2 radios. Wouxun and Baofeng.

Trying to figure out how to change the radio when I go to upload the file into the radio.

I have the Wouxun set up in CHIRP. I want to be able to program the Baofeng the same way.

But not sure how to make the switch.

Re: RT System File

Jim:

Thanks for the info. It does read the RT System files.

Thanks

Bob

Re: RT System File

You should be able to export them from the RT Systems software to a CSV file. At one time, CHIRP could import an RT Systems CSV file. It still might. If not, you should be able to copy-and-paste the frequency data from the RT Systems CSV into the CHIRP-next UI.

RT System File

I have the files that RT Systems created for a different radio that I no longer have. (ft-50r)

I also have files for my KG-UVD1P.

Is there a chance that I can convert those and save them to my UV-5R without to much difficulty?

Re: Downloading Chirp (update)

Bob,

You may find that Eset has a way to temporarily disable the AV protection. Some
AV programs let you do that by right-clicking on the program's icon in the
Windows task tray and there is sometimes an option to disable protection or to
do so temporarily in the drop-down list when you double-click it.

You may also try right-clicking on that same icon and choosing exit or close and
see what options it gives you then.

You could also kill all of the tasks Eset has in Windows Task Manager then
proceed to install it, then re-enable the AV program.

Your Eset program should have a help menu item that you can search for how to do
this in the program.
