Re: Leni conversion #3
okay.. I have to admit being curious myself.??
I will send you:?? - the ENI board with the current parts on it (all new except the switch and Module A) - please ignore the soldering boo boos... these phenolic single sided board cannot take many soldering hits, as you probably well know. My plan was to clean up and jumper the lifted pads once I confirmed functionality.? ?? - I have one transistor (V3) tacked to the bottom solder side I was going to put it in its proper place if confirmed good.?? - because whoever built these original boards loved to crimp leads, I snipped off most of the original parts.? The original transformers have little stubs of leads left on them.? Still probeable.?? - the original transformer, and one of the ones I got off eBay, and the one Lenox had provided me is soldered on the board now (note the transformer is not yet secured to the board).?? - and since the battery cage is hard wired to the board, i will send it along attached as well, without batteries.? Oh - one of the battery cage negative through hole rings lifted - I was going to fix that as part of final clean up.? ? |

Clay, we're aware of the lockdown, that' why Mat Hazzard was chosen to crew the CDV1701A. He was specially bio-engineered with a hard depleted uranium skin, which is known to resist Deathamine poisoning.?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýhi Lenox,?
I rewired the transformer per the schematic you provided. These color codes are different than color codes that are written in pencil on the box the transformer was in.??
I powered on with the rewired transformer and get a real dirty buzz out of the transformer/board.? before I got a quiet study hum like an angry bumblebee.? ?Now - a dirty, scratchy buzz from the board, not through the speaker? ?The speaker is still dead
silent.

Hi Lenox, Good for your granddaughter! ?That's fantastic, there's an open door for females in science trades... By the way I mentioned to Michael to watch out for ENi CDV700's with crushed handles, because I have several handles with and without the probe clips. I figure that damage must happen when a pallet of them gets dropped from a height, the weight from the upper ones causing stress cracks in the lower ones, which eventually fail. I've seen several with the same exact damage, when everything else was AOK. Re: Leni conversion #3
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Geo,? here I am off topic once again.? I want a modern LCR, not a fan of tubes other than collecting them.? I am pretty much done looking for an HP LCR, at my age and with what I am currently doing I really won¡¯t use it enough to justify the expense and learning curve of one.? I used to have good luck finding surplus test gear since HP was big here in Loveland and there was a lot of equipment sold at the scrap auctions for Loveland, Greeley, and Fort Collins HP sites.? But LCRs weren¡¯t built here and they just didn¡¯t get scrapped.? I volunteered with the group that ran the Loveland auctions. ? Those were the best days, great job and lots of equipment to play with.? You could check out gear worth many tens of thousands of dollars and take it home for the weekend.? In the early days of cable TV they used to put a signal between the audio and video that overloaded the front end of the TV to scramble the pay channels.? Some HP folks got together and designed a notch filter that would descramble the channels.? You could breadboard the circuit with HP stock parts and then borrow the gear to tune the filter.? I still have one built into a metal First Aid kit box.? The funny thing was if you put the filter on the output of the cable box all the channels were CH3 and the signal was the same frequency so one filter worked for all the channels.? The cable company had filters for each different channel. ?Of course it didn¡¯t take long for them to figure it out¡ ? I had a friend that was former HP that bought and sold HP gear and would wheel and deal on trades and upgrades.? Unfortunately the lunacy of today has finally ruined that strained friendship.? C'est la vie. ? I may buy a better ESR/LCR meter at some point or look at some of the kits that pop up.? Here are a couple of interesting links: The MESR-100 ESR V2 or the Atlas/Peak ESR70 seem like good options as they have better LCR capability and the Atlas does a decent job of in-circuit tests with auto discharge capability.? Both are in the $60-$100 range.? The MESR-100 was available via Walmart.? Still not close to real lab LCR meters but since I let my ham license lapse many years ago and do little RF work the reality is I don¡¯t need better at this time.? If ease of use isn¡¯t a big concern a scope and a good frequency source can get you by for out-of-circuit measurements in many cases.? In circuit is more complicated.? ESR is definitely nice to measure in-circuit when possible.? There are ESR meter designs with a detector that eliminates all but the resistive component of the impedance.? As with anything it can get pretty complicated if you want solid reproducible result.? You can probably buy a dozen cheap testers for the cost of one test fixture for an HP LCR Meter. ? Clay ? Re: Leni conversion #3
If too much trouble don't worry about it, just send cheapest way. If you want, send the top panel I'll drill it for the LENi Pro options too. That will give it BNC connector, Speak2Me, volume control, flashing red LED per click, green LED for power, fast-slow response time toggle,? and X2 range toggle. If you send the bottom cover I'll punch it for a speaker, and if you want to add a pancake tube in the base, I can punch that hole too, but probably better to wait off on that. Then you'll have the works, and a model to follow for any and all mods you make to other ENi's. George? If you're a seller on eBay, make an ad for a few dollars, I buy it, you can send pcb in a small box for about $3.75. Use First class package which is tracked. when finished we'll repeat the process backwards, I'll place the ad. OK?
