Re: No uploads - support replied
There is at least one online service for making contributions to creators of web content. It's called Patreon. . The minimum contribution is $1.00 USD. It's used by a lot of YouTube creators and other artists, writers, etc. Dave Jones of EEVBLOG uses it. Either Farhan or Hans could set it up. Out of more than three thousand subscribers to this group, $120 per year should be easy. Regarding ways to delete or lower the storage burden, I would hate to see the attachment feature go. It's one of the great features of Groups.io. With Yahoo, when a poster referred to a photo, it was a PITA to go to the Yahoo site to look at it. Having it right in the post itself is the most natural way. It's how we usually do our emails for other purposes. Regarding the files section, with some exceptions I have not found it to be particularly useful when it was at Yahoo, mostly because there was no way to search it with keywords, and no organization to the folders and files themselves. Generally, folders were/are named for the contributor, i.e., by call sign, rather than by content and with no way of knowing what's in them except by opening them up and rooting around. Often folders and files would be created as addenda to a specific post or thread, but outside of that original context have little meaning or value. I have not yet looked to see if files and folders can be searched by keyword in Groups.io. I hope so, as it would make a money contribution to support it a no-brainer. It might also be worthwhile to consider combining "photos" and "files" into one section. A photo is just a file, a document like any other form. I'm not sure there's a reason to distinguish between JPG documents and PDF, DOC, XLS, or any other type. 73, Todd K7TFC |

Dropbox has a 2 Gig free limit. A group link could be provided for browsing. Links could be pasted in the message without adding bulk to the group site. Access to the files could be password protected. Or just available by link for a set limited time. I think it's worth consideration as an accessory to the group site. Please think how to make it work before shooting it down. For what it's worth, I have downloaded all Bitx 40 files I want. ? |

Hi all Farhan is boss here. I am only in charge of the QRP Labs group ;-) ? I just happen to technically be owner of the YahooGroups forum since the beginning, because when Farhan published his BITX20 design in 2004 I loved it and suggested to Farhan starting a YahooGroup... he said go ahead, and the rest is history. So I'll leave it with Farhan to decide how to go forward with it.? Meanwhile I'll see if I can free up the "attachments" part of the storage. That should buy some time at least.? 73 Hans G0UPL |

I notice on /static/pricing that paying 10$/mo only gets you 10GB of storage, not a huge increase from 1GB. Maybe a Raspberry Pi with a hard drive and a fixed IP via a DynDNS account would work to store all the old files/photos so they could still be accessed. AL? VE3RRD |
Re: Well I deleted my 13 Megabyte file N5ESE_RFProbe_Files.tar.gz
I deleted them as a start to help cleanup and I assume you as well. Once we have space back, I can re-upload, but smaller file sizes. 73 Ken VA3ABN On Tue, Feb 7, 2017 at 1:01 PM, Jerry Gaffke via Groups.Io <jgaffke@...> wrote:

Re: Well I deleted my 13 Megabyte file N5ESE_RFProbe_Files.tar.gz
Didn't look at them, but those files sound useful. ?LTSpice plots can be huge, but the schematics are just a few kbytes, and can be used to recreate the plots. The LTSpice simulation for the final pa under Files/KE7ER has just the LTSpice schematic plus a pdf of that schematic for those that don't have LTSpice installed. ?Post 21027 has a textual description of what I saw in the plots, that should be in files section along with the schematics as a Readme, or perhaps embedded in the schematic. Most of what we should remove will likely be 10 year old photos of some guy at a picnic bench. ?On the other hand, the tools we use in 2017 all seem to assume we have several terabytes of hard drive available. I also removed files taking large space. I have removed the plots and schematics due to large file size. We need to conserve space. I had plots and schematics 80m, 40m and 20m BPF's. If you require them, contact me at chase8043@... and please use something in the subject line, otherwise I will not reply. You can also contact me on the here. 73 Ken VA3ABN On Tue, Feb 7, 2017 at 12:29 PM, Jerry Gaffke via Groups.Io <jgaffke@...> wrote:

Re: Well I deleted my 13 Megabyte file N5ESE_RFProbe_Files.tar.gz
I've been saying a simple RF probe could be useful here as a common tool when some debugging is needed. ?And I was likely the one that brought up the N5ESE webpage, but only because that's a top google hit for "RF Probe". ?It consists of 3 parts, and has been in every ARRL Handbook since long before I was born. ?So might be worth a paragraph in Rob's notes, but not worth megabytes. ? Hardly fair to pick on Fred. ?His upload was arguably more useful than 95% of everything else up there. Speaking of the ARRL Handbook, my 2015 edition's RF probe assumes your voltmeter has an input resistance of 1meg. ?N5ESE assumes 11meg. ?N5ESE mentions meter input resistance as a potential issue, but leaves that as an exercise for the reader. ?If we are to have consistent RF Probe readings, we'll need to work on that issue a bit.
