Dropbox has a 2 Gig free limit. A group link could be provided for browsing. Links could be pasted in the message without adding bulk to the group site. Access to the files could be password protected. Or just available by link for a set limited time.

I think it's worth consideration as an accessory to the group site.

Please think how to make it work before shooting it down.
