Programming radio
I am trying to program my Anytone 878 UV Plus with one analog FM channel. I was able to update the firmware OK through the com port, but I am getting an error:
Check Connection. Retry? This is using the same CPS program that loaded the firmware just fine through the same com port. I went ahead and installed the com port driver that Bridgecomm says you can do if you're having problems, and that didn't change anything. I would switch to CHIRP, but it's not listed as a supported radio, and I'm afraid to mess things up even if it is able to download the radio's channel information. Anything else I should try before giving up and trying to figure out how to enter information through the front panel? |
The way the system works for the Anytone DMR radios is that once you update the radio with new firmware, the CPS program used to load that firmware is now out of date. This is why with each firmware release you should find with that firmware bundle a new matching version of the CPS software. Install that new CPS, export data from the old CPS and import it to the new, then discontinue using the old CPS. Once you do this, you should be good to go with sending/reading data from the radio. Hope I understood your situation correctly and that this helps. Roy - KI0ER |

I downloaded a package in a zip file, and it came with a CPS program along with lots of other things including the firmware. All in the same package. They made it easy to do it the way you said it. The CPS program is 1.27 and the FW is 1.27. Both are in separate folders. I was able to manually set up the two analog repeaters I'll use the most but we have one that is to be installed that will support translation between DStar and DMR and I'd like to be able to use it when it is installed. OK. I found the problem. When trying to write to the radio, there's a pop-up
dialog box with two checkboxes. I was leaving the top box (Digital Contacts List) unchecked and it failed every time. Once I checked it, I was able to upload. Now to the next part. A friend sent me a codeplug. I read where you sometimes have to convert them using a CSV file to allow you to copy and paste from one CPS version into another. If someone can share some good written (a video is OK but written instructions let me follow them easier step by step) method of what to do with the codeplug ---------------------------------------------------- Some ham radio groups you may be interested in: /g/ICOM /g/Ham-Antennas /g/HamRadioHelp /g/Baofeng /g/CHIRP |
Oh, the hotkey fiasco again. This somehow got sent before I was finished.
I'll start over from the important part. A friend sent me a codeplug. I read where you sometimes have to convert them using a CSV file to allow you to copy and paste from one CPS version into another. If someone can share some good written (a video is OK but written instructions let me follow them easier step by step) method of what to do with the codeplug, how to know if I need to convert it, and how to convert it? If I understand things correctly so far, a codeplug made under one firmware revision won't work in another, but you can copy and paste information between two different CPS programs? If this is so, can two different CPS version programs reside on the same computer? Now that I worked out the problem of uploading data to the radio, I should be able to continue once I'm pointed in the right direction.
