Programming radio

I am trying to program my Anytone 878 UV Plus with one analog FM channel. I was able to update the firmware OK through the com port, but I am getting an error:

Check Connection. Retry?

This is using the same CPS program that loaded the firmware just fine through the same com port. I went ahead and installed the com port driver that Bridgecomm says you can do if you're having problems, and that didn't change anything. I would switch to CHIRP, but it's not listed as a supported radio, and I'm afraid to mess things up even if it is able to download the radio's channel information.

Anything else I should try before giving up and trying to figure out how to enter information through the front panel?

Re: Programming radio

The way the system works for the Anytone DMR radios is that once you update the radio with new firmware, the CPS program used to load that firmware is now out of date.

This is why with each firmware release you should find with that firmware bundle a new matching version of the CPS software. Install that new CPS, export data from the old CPS and import it to the new, then discontinue using the old CPS.

Once you do this, you should be good to go with sending/reading data from the radio.

Hope I understood your situation correctly and that this helps.

You would think so, but that's how I did it and I still have this issue. I
downloaded a package in a zip file, and it came with a CPS program along with
lots of other things including the firmware. All in the same package. They made
it easy to do it the way you said it. The CPS program is 1.27 and the FW is
1.27. Both are in separate folders.

I was able to manually set up the two analog repeaters I'll use the most but we
have one that is to be installed that will support translation between DStar and
DMR and I'd like to be able to use it when it is installed.

Re: Programming radio

OK. I found the problem. When trying to write to the radio, there's a pop-up
dialog box with two checkboxes. I was leaving the top box (Digital Contacts
List) unchecked and it failed every time. Once I checked it, I was able to
upload.

Now to the next part.

A friend sent me a codeplug. I read where you sometimes have to convert them
using a CSV file to allow you to copy and paste from one CPS version into
another.

If someone can share some good written (a video is OK but written instructions
let me follow them easier step by step) method of what to do with the codeplug

Re: Programming radio

Oh, the hotkey fiasco again. This somehow got sent before I was finished.

I'll start over from the important part.

A friend sent me a codeplug. I read where you sometimes have to convert them
using a CSV file to allow you to copy and paste from one CPS version into
another.

If someone can share some good written (a video is OK but written instructions
let me follow them easier step by step) method of what to do with the codeplug,
how to know if I need to convert it, and how to convert it?

If I understand things correctly so far, a codeplug made under one firmware
revision won't work in another, but you can copy and paste information between
two different CPS programs?

If this is so, can two different CPS version programs reside on the same
computer?

Now that I worked out the problem of uploading data to the radio, I should be
able to continue once I'm pointed in the right direction.

Hi Don, thanks for the heads up.? I should have mentioned I have that software but it doesn't work on the (apparently rare?) 222 MHz version of the 588.? I guess the 588 was also made for 2 and 440 MHz which were much more common.? I've reached out to RT Systems to see if there might be a work around, and will post what I find out here.

Thank you for trying to help me out Don!

Re: Programming software for AT-588 mobile for 222-225 MHz

Update and great news? -? I emailed RT Systems tech support and they confirmed their AT-588 programming software works with all 3 versions of the radio - 2/222/440.? Once the software is connected to the radio via the USB-29A cable and can read the radio, it knows what band it is on and can be programmed for that band. I had been trying to 'pre-load' the software without the radio connected and in that case it defaults to 2 meters.

When I connected and powered up everything I was able to read it and it shows 223.500 simplex which I had the VFO set to, plus 32 memory frequencies the radio comes with from the factory. Interestingly these were all simplex frequencies between 236 and 261 MHz with a mixture of carrier squelch, CTCSS and DCS tones/codes.? I assume this was for testing at the factory as they list the frequency range as 220 - 260 MHz.

Support from RT Systems has always been excellent, and I'm very impressed with the single band AT-588 radios.

New to the group

Hello, I have a D868UV? Hdwe Ver 1.00,? Firmware Ver 2.30.? I programmed it Jun 2018 with a codeplug for Central Ohio ARES operations.
Analog works fine, no Digital activity.? I am wondering where to find an Operational codeplug and where Color Codes are input as I don't recall, during codeplug?
review before programming. any mention of Color Codes. I am familiar with analog CTCSS and DCS codes.
Any ideas?

878UV Plus volume

When I plug in my Anytone speaker-mic into the radio (I bought the Anytone brand
to make sure the plug was correct for the radio), the volume is very low.
Besides the volume control knob, is there a setting in the radio that can give
me some volume boost?

I bought the speaker-mic to make it easier to operate for more than a few
minutes, hoping I could clip it to my shirt and hear the other station without
having to hold it up against my ear.

I have heard that a certain Kenwood speaker-mic works with this radio. If any of
you have one that works well and you don't have to hold the speaker-mic close to
your ear to hear, I'd like to know what the model number of the mic is and also
the Kenwood radio is that it fits (to make it more likely to find one used that
fits this radio).

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: 878UV Plus volume

I didn't think I'd find out how to do this but did a web search and I think I
fund what I needed to do. I did a test on a "parrot" and can hear the playback
just fine now. Apparently, some come from the factory with a low volume setting
and some don't.

This has the information except it's for another model and you have to deviate
from the settings path they tell you to follow to make the change. Mine was, I
think, on 1 and I can go to 4. The video shows a max level of 8.

My path was:

Menu-Settings-Radio Set-Voice Func-Ear Max Vol-then choose a #

I set mine at 8 for ear max vol and 8 for Max Vol Level.

I also went in under Voice Func while I was there and chose enhance sound-Mic
Enhance. You'll have to let me know if I sound any better on your end tomorrow.

578 beep

How does he remove that?

I can't find anything that does that but I am new to Anytime

I attempted to post a earlier this morning & I had to shut my computer down due to a threat.

So, please excuse me if I posted.? I am rather new to these forums.

Question #1:? I have read the instructions that came with the radio.? The one inside the box is not very detailed.? So, I went to the source.

I am attempting to understand the values of RF gain.? Many of the settings tell what the values mean specific to function.??

For example:? "Short press SQ/AQ, until LCD displays stands for SQ/AQ level, the bigger value stands for high squelch level."
This example describes what the bigger value does to squelch.

However, when I go look in the instructions specific to RF gain, I see:? AU, 03, 06, 9-48.

I am not fond of AU.? However, I attempted to increase RF gain.? When I advance the number up to 48, I cannot hear hardly anything on Channel 19.? However, if I reduce it to 03 or 06, it works fine.??

Does 48 represent the highest RF gain?

Question #2:? I heard that activating "Hi Cut" helps to reduce the static.? I thought I read where this also helps to reduce strong skip signals.??

Thanks

AnyTone AT-5888UV

This radio appears to be a 2-band knock off of the Yaesu FT-8900.? I own both radios.? I'm curious if anyone has an AT-5888UV and has experimented with the USB port to determine if remote control (i.e., CAT control) is even possible.? Too bad that AnyTone didn't include that as a feature since it makes the perfect radio for digital comms (such as WInlink, FLDIGI, SSTV, etc).??

I've also discovered that the RJ-45 microphone (QHM-05) isn't your standard analog mic.? It appears to support a digitized audio stream (??) and that fuels additional curiosity as to the potential for digital comms.? Documentation that I have is pretty sketchy, so I haven't looked much further and thought this board might know more about this particular rig.

Comments welcomed.

D578 UV2 plus Help Requested

In the spring I purchased the Mobile radio and just recently I purchased the BT01 remove microphone. The radio has worked pretty much flawlessly since purchase. The BT01 however is acting strange. I suspect I have firmware issues as in I need to update the radio. The radio currently has:
Firmware V2.04 installed
Hardware V1.10 installed
Radio Data V1.00 installed
Unfortunately their manuals leave a little to be desired (very small print at a minimum) and I am getting old.
When I go to the download section of the Anytone web site it is not totally clear which firmware editions go to what it just tells you?
a version number and never says firmware or Bluetooth etc. so I dont know if I have the correct software installed or not.?
One thing I have heard is that you can not update the Bluetooth via a PC it has to be an android phone of all things. This is a dumb idea for someone with old eyes in the first place but more than that I dont own an android phone and no one I know does. So how does one get around this??
I have been able to pair the handheld BT mic/spkr? but I hear no audio on transmit or receive and the PTT hangs? on the radio leaving it in transmit unless you press PTT a second time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.?
Jim

AnyTone AT-778UV max operating voltage - issues at 14v

I have an AnyTone AT-778UV (Retevis RT95), and am trying to run it off of a LiFePO4 battery that when fully charged is at 14v. The problem is the radio will not turn on at 14v, and if charged up to 14v while powered on it will power off. If I drain the battery a tiny bit down to 13.9, the radio functions fine.

The specifications in the user manual states an operating voltage of 13.8V DC +- 15%. Shouldn't this mean it would work fine from? 11.73 - 15.87 volts?
Does anyone else have this radio and have issues at/above 14v? It seems like in a vehicle this voltage would not be too unreasonable for an alternator to produce either.
Did I just get a bad unit that does not like over 13.9v?

(page 33 of the pdf, or page 29 on the printed pages for the specifications section)

Thanks for any assistance,

D878UVII V3.02 CPS - "TX Permit" & "DMR MODE"

Two questions about the AnyTone AT-D878UVII PLUS and D878UVII V3.02 CPS referencing the "Channel Information Edit" panel.

1. "TX Permit" setting has 4 options;
- Always
- ChannelFree
- Different Color Code
- Same Color Code
The "AT-D868UV/D878UV CodePlug Programming Guide" says, "Selects PTT transmit criteria – typically Same ColorCode" I have seen code plugs that use both the "Same" and "Different" options. Requesting a better explaination of the options. Also the best choice for a DMR repeater.

2. "DMR MODE" setting also has 4 options;
- DMO/simplex
- Repeater
- DCDM/Double Slot
- DCDM TS split
I have been unable to locate an explaination of these options in the Programming Guide. I have seen sample codeplus using both the simplex and repeater options. Which is the correct option for a DMR repeater?

Thanks,

Anytone AT-5189

Hi Folks:

Wonder if anyone has a schematic or other info on the AT-5189 mobile radio.

I am looking for a place to inject audio directly into the FM modulator, bypassing the mic input and pre-emphasis, a place to pick up raw discriminator audio, and thirdly, confirmation of which of the 2 pots adjusts output power.

Thanks in advance!

Ramesh, VA3UV

What was the resolution to this issue?? I am planning to purchase the 778 for use in my RV and have lithium batteries.
