IGATE not forwarding to RF
13
Hello everyone. Computer: Lenovo M720 mini OS: Windows 10 Pro Software: APRSICE32, UzZ7HO sound modem Radio: Kenwood TM201B Interface: Rigblaster Pro. I am running an IGATE on the above equipment and am having some issues with the IGATE not passing messages to RF. For instance; I use my FT5D to send a message to my buddy that also use a FTM500 but the message stays on the IGATE same thing happens when he sends to me, both of us are always in range of the IGATE, but if I send from radio to someone using APRSDROID the messages reaches them and I get replies from them, the messages just won't go from radio to radio, could I be missing something, anyone has a fix for this and willing to share I certainly will appreciate it. 9Y4C

KJ4ERJ - Silent Key
27
All, Lynn - KJ4ERJ - author of APRSIS32/CE, passed away. We don't have any more information right now. I'm in a state of shock. I'm not even sure what to think. I still have tears in my eyes, so I will keep this short. I was just on our monthly APRS Foundation executive team call with John Tarbox (WA1KLI) and John Langner (WB2OSZ). John T. got a phone call from Lynn's wife with the news. He was one of the nicest people I've ever met, and I considered him a great friend! The APRS Foundation and the APRS community worldwide know of Lynn's contributions to ham radio. His mark will never be forgotten. I was just looking through the history on this group and it looks like it's been a few days since he posted. We will keep you posted as we learn more, but I thought it important to let you know as soon as possible. Please keep his family in your prayers. -- APRS Foundation - Ensuring the Future of APRS! The Passing of Lynn Deffenbaugh KJ4ERJ (SK)
3
With the sad passing of a long time friend and lousy boss (the pay is awful (zero $ and long hours!), We as admin's have been left a little short handed at this time. If anyone reading a post has an answer to the question posed please do not hesitate to send a reply. Several regulars field most of the questions asked in the group, more voices are always welcome, please do not be shy! We have an extremely large pool of group members currently 3715 and still rising daily and the knowledge of such a large group is a wonderful tool. I have been asked by Paul Deffebaugh KJ4DXK To keep things going on here, So far as it goes the group will continue to function as before. I seldom post anything to the group but as Admin and moderator I watch everything! Your condolences to Paul and his family have been truly great and I expected no less from our group, but please refrain from personal requests to family members of KJ4ERJ SK at this time. Bless you Lynn ! KJ4ERJ SK ,Take your APRS with you so we can always thank you sir! Sincerely Steve, KF6WAX Admin/Moderator

Holiday and Christmas hours of business

Hello fellow hams, Just to let everyone know that the admin writing this will be available for passcode requests as normal through the holiday period including Christmas day. Replies may be slightly slower than normal for complicated requests but passcodes will not be an issue, with storms we are expecting this weekend there may be outages in my location, but these outages are very rare thankfully. I would also take this time to offer seasons greetings to one and all and my special thoughts go out to the Deffenbaugh family at their time of loss of KJ4ERJ SK Your condolence messages continue to be helpful and surely give Lynns family the strength to get through this very difficult time. End of message 73 Steve, KF6WAX Admin/Moderator

Thank you
I want to continue my reply that thank you each so much for your kindness and messages. They are very supportive to me and our family right now. We are stunned at the breadth of your response. Please continue everything and I will be in touch more. Paul Son

Fw: [APRS] Special Announcement - please read - #APRSTHURSDAY Net Reminder 05-DEC-2024
#APRSTHURSDAY
---- 73s Adam Mahnke KC2ANT ------- Forwarded Message ------- From: MIKE DITURNO KC8OWL via groups.io <kc8owl@...> Date: On Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 at 07:17 Subject: [APRS] Special Announcement - please read - #APRSTHURSDAY Net Reminder 05-DEC-2024 To: [email protected] <[email protected]> This week¡¯s and next week¡¯s #APRSTHURSDAY net will be dedicated to Lynn Deffenbaugh, KJ4ERJ, who became a silent key this week. Lynn was the author of the APRSISCE/32 application and was truly an APRS expert. I got to know Lynn casually through the weekly #APRSTHURSDAY net. Way back in the net¡¯s very early days I remember emailing Lynn and asking him if he minded if Cody, K7YXG, myself, and a few others ¡°experimented¡± with his Announcement Server (ANSRVR) in hopes that we might be able to try the idea of a weekly APRS net. Over time, and with Lynn¡¯s willingness to always help, that ¡°experiment¡± became a weekly net that now sees over 500 operators some weeks. None of this would have been possible without Lynn¡¯s help and support along the way. I remember one week ANSRVR was down and Lynn, while on vacation, temporarily ran the service on his laptop from his hotel room just so we could have the net. Let's all take a moment to thank Lynn with an APRS message in his honor this week during the net. None of this would have ever been possible without his help. WHAT: #APRSTHURSDAY net WHEN: 05-DEC-2024 00:00 - 23:59 UTC WHERE: APRS HOW: Destination Station = ANSRVR HOW: Message body = CQ [space] HOTG [space] 73 Lynn. Rest easy and thank you for everything. When checking into the net, please disable any automated responses your APRS client may be configured to send after receiving a message. Excessive and unnecessary network traffic can result from Auto Answer APRS messages. On the PinPoint application, the function can be turned off by going to Tools/Options/Misc and unchecking "Auto Answer APRS Messages." To check in: 1) There are two (see A and B) ways to check in as an "in and out" that will limit unnecessary traffic after your check-in. A) Station: ANSRVR. Message body: CQ HOTG followed by your check-in message of choice. Once you receive your ACK from ANSRVR send the following follow-up message to ANSRVR: U HOTG. This will "Unjoin'' your station and prevent additional traffic from being routed to you and eliminate unnecessary traffic on the system. B) Station: APRSPH. Message body: HOTG followed by your check-in message of choice. Note the absence of the CQ. This will log your check-in on the APRSPH system only. Your check-in will be counted and included in the summary but will not be broadcast by ANSRVR. 2) For stations wishing to monitor the check-in traffic from other stations, continue to check in as you always have. Station: ANSRVR. Message body: CQ HOTG followed by your message of choice. WE ASK HOWEVER when you are done monitoring, PLEASE send the following command to ANSRVR. U HOTG. 73 Mike KC8OWL

Feel like i need a APRSISCE for dummies
Using the APRSIS32 on my windows 11 laptop. I can get my callsign in & set a manual location. But when I hit transmit. I see it do that. I see other callsigns in the log window too. But I never see my station on the aprs.fi website. So here's what I was wanting to do with this app. Basically just run it standalone at home. Without a gps or hooked to a radio for RF. I wanted to beacon an object for the repeater to show up online when looking at the aprs map. Years ago I used to run a digipeater & it was also hooked to the internet to gate stuff there. I also setup an object through that for the repeater to show up. Using UIvew32 i believe. Idk it's been a while I may have the name wrong. Currently I don't have the digipeater. I was just looking for a way to still beacon an object tthough. For now I'm just using aprs droid. But I can't seem to beacon an object with it. Just my callsign with a tower & the repeater information in the comments. I've tried to look though the APRSISCE website for perhaps something I've missed doing in setup. But I guess I keep missing something because it just never shows me on the map with this app.

Missing setting
12
Thanks for all the ideas on my moving to another computer. Got everything moved. I am using soundmodem by UZ7HO I seem to have that up and running. I must have a setting wrong in APRSISE. I have my map up. I am locating on the map. But get nothing when I hit "Transmit". I see the red line at the top when I do, but it is not engaging my Azden 7000H via my Signalink USB. What could I have missed? Where should I look to find this issue? Thanks Bob W8RID

Kantronic TNC connection
Posting response to the main group. Yes, APRSIS32 can connect to any hardware TNC that can be put in KISS mode (most TNCs can). Most common is the KPC-3 or KPC-3+ There are 2 ways of doing this: 1. EASIEST: Configuring the Kantronics TNC in KISS mode such that it stays there - even after a power cycle. See the TNC manual for instructions, check the WIKI, or post back here for more help. In APRSIS32 create a new port as a Simply(KISS) => instructions on the WIKi http://aprsisce.wikidot.com/tnc-kpc-3 The KPC-3+ has some known issues (delays) as a DIGI, but works fine for all other operations. Most other Kantronics TNCs have similar interfaces. The TNC manual should give KISS instructions Somewhere on the internet is a set of Windows compatible files that will change the TNC mode as well. 2. Option 2: Configure theAPRSIS32 port as a Simply(KISS) port then modify the APRSIS32.xml file according to the above WIKI (lower section). I hope this helps! Bluetooth GPS Receivers
15
Has anyone tried using a Bluetooth GPS Receiver with a Windows 11 tablet? Prolific has yet to put out a driver that will work with the newest update of Windows 11 Home V22H2, so the GPS-5 Receiver will not cause a Port in Device Manager. I tried a Globalsat BU-353N5 Receiver, since it uses an FTDI chip. However, it will not transmit my position to APRS.fi, and only the bottom colored boxes of satellites show up with the next line showing "29 At in use". No clue what that might mean. Spike N4EBF

What Prolific says will work for WIN11 does not. What do we do when WIN 10 goes away and we must use WIN 11 for a driver to support APRSIS32 GPS data?

WebDT366 - touchscreen
I found an old WebDT366 tablet with a mechanically damaged touch screen. I ordered a new AMT9507 touch screen for it. Unfortunately, it seems to be the wrong version of the screen because the connections are swapped, and the cursor behaves completely erratically when touched. Does anyone know what the correct type of touch screen is? 73, Chris
