Bluetooth GPS Receivers
Has anyone? tried using a Bluetooth GPS Receiver with a Windows 11 tablet? Prolific has yet to put out a driver that will work with the newest update of Windows 11 Home V22H2, so the GPS-5 Receiver will not cause a Port in Device Manager.
I tried a Globalsat BU-353N5 Receiver, since it uses an FTDI chip. However, it will not transmit my position to APRS.fi, and only the bottom colored boxes of satellites show up with the next line showing "29 At in use". No clue what that might mean. Spike N4EBF |

开云体育Are you sure it doesn't say "29 Sat in use"??? If you see colored boxes at the bottom, then APRSIS32 is communicating with your GPS. Can you send a screen shot of APRSIS32 when it is using your GPS? Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile and

开云体育First APRIS32 never transmits to aprs.fi.?? It only transmits to the APRS-IS which in turn relays it to all interested clients, one of which happens to be aprs.fi. Second, do you have the proper passcode entered for your callsign? Third, what version of APRSIS32 are you running?? You can find this in the About box. Finally, if you bring up the Port(NMEA) trace log and enable it,
it may have some revealing information. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE

Yes, I have the assigned Pass code entered.
APRSIS32 Built: 2020/05/01 21:21. The Enables/View Logs/Port(NMEA) screen shows that it is Enabled, just no data coming in. All the blocks on the lower line of Satellites are RED. Do I need to restart the program? If I brought GPS data into the tablet APRSIS32 program via a Bluetooth GPS Receiver, would I get the same information that the GPS-5 and BU-353 Receivers have? Thank you for the help. |

I was able to Roll Back WIN 11 to WIN 10. Found an older Prolific driver for the GPS-5 Receiver that used to work and load that. I have APRSIS32 working as advertised on my Windows tablet again.
?? So much for progress. I? could not get the Garmin Glo 2 Bluetooth GPS Receiver to work. It would pair with the table, but not connect; never saw any streaming GPS data from it. Spike - N4EBF |
You don't say how you were trying to connect the Bluetooth GPS.
What did you try as a connection type with the Bluetooth GPS? I don't have the tablet, and I know some tablets are difficult to work with for GPS. On my Windows Laptop, I was able to connect using Menu >Configure >Ports >NMEA and choose Bluetooth and my Bluetooth GPS device was listed. When I've tried to connect through a virtual serial port, it always fails. ----- Rob Giuliano |

Interesting question, but the only question that might be of value here would be:
? ?Does anyone have a working Prolific Driver for Windows 11 or know how to install the Windows 10 driver on Windows 11 (and beyond)?
Since Lynn didn't write MS Windows or have anything to do with the Prolific Hardware/driver, not sure what you expect the answer to be.
?
Reading back through the thread, I am not sure I completely understand your situation.
? ?What is the brand and model of your GPS?? You just refer to it as a GPS-5?
? ?Are you referring to a Garmin GPS-5, Byonics GPS-5 module, or something else?
? ?If Byonics, is it the module, or the RS232 connector (DE9) version? (Which requires an adapter that Byonics sells that requires the Prolific driver from Byon's website)
?
As for Bluetooth GPS units, I have had very good luck with them as described in my previous post.
>> Pair the Bluetooth GPS with your device (tablet) through the normal means.? It will create a "Bluetooth device" in Windows 11.
>> On my Windows Laptop, I was able to connect using Menu >Configure >Ports >NMEA and choose Bluetooth and my Bluetooth GPS device was listed.

Per Microsoft October of 2025 is end of support After?October 14, 2025,?Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates from Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but we recommend moving to Windows 11 On Fri, Nov 15, 2024 at 9:03?AM Don Eklund via <n1edf=[email protected]> wrote:

Really - another post about 10 on the Prolific driver in Windows 11.
?
Can we please stop posting about Windows 10?
It has been stated enough!
?
The question relates to Prolific Drivers in Windows 11 - NOT 10!
So a hundred more posts about Windows 10 will not help!
