You can use any radio with audio and PTT cable connected to an external TNC or PC and software. You cannot use the internal TNC in the Yaesu, so it is really not operating with data, but rather with audio just like the Baofeng.? However, the Yaesu has a far superior receiver.? I use Baofengs on trackers that transmit only, and they work fine. However, they do not receive well,?which is a necessity for a?digipeater.

Can i use the above radio as a digipeater with APRSISCE? If so what cables would i need to connect the radio so it could activate the transmitter for a digipeater.? Would a boafeng be easier? than than the ftm100dr? I realize the 8 watts would lessen my foot print. I do have an igate working currently,? i think.
