Re: Source
Greg D,
I agree with your suggested priorities. A Linux port is a nice-to-have. I
didn't agree with ditching the idea completely because it runs fine in wine

Re: Source
Keep up the source answers to the questions as asked, as I see more recent
replies, they are all excellent points
and I am sure well received!
Because of the time of year it is appreciated that many

Re: Source
Hi Paul.
I just posted a loose proposal to the APRSISCE mailing list for continuing support of APRSISCE.
I have zero idea of your tech skills or your interests or your energy level around this

I see several different themes/tasks running through here:
1. Put the source out under a permissive license, so potential maintainers can get a look at it and see what they would be getting

Re: Source
One data point on the porting of APRSIS32 to other platforms..
APRSIS32 is probably the only major application that I run on Linux
under Wine and have almost zero clue that it's not a native

I started with Bob's DOS client back in the 90's. It was really nice to
see all the clients evolve after the DOS version.

I meant Lynn not Steve!
Many APRS authors over the years.
I started with winaprs, then uiview, then xastir, now aprsis32.
i never used the wb4apr client.

Indeed it was a HUGE loss when uiview source was not made available.
I believe that all ham radio related software should be open source as much as possible and that github/aprs foundation is the

Re: Source
We really do need the source posted to find the best people to continue the
work.
Not only is it the language it is written in, but who has the same
development tools.
An example is my work, where we

Re: Source
Even after the code is released, there’s a lot more to keeping APRSISCE going than just putting it on Github. The hard part of keeping an open source project going is having a dedicated maintainer.

+1.? The code should be open, but under the oversight of the APRS Foundation (or similar organization).? It needs a custodian.

Re: Source
Paul,
That sounds very positive. Who knows, perhaps someone who is smarter than I
am could port it to Linux. It's nice that you are open to sharing it this
way.
