Indeed it was a HUGE loss when uiview source was not made available.
I believe that all ham radio related software should be open source as much as possible and that github/aprs foundation is the right way to go.
by the way, APRSIS32 seems to work just fine under wine on Linux. No need for a linux port.
I use fedora but I am sure other distributions will work as well.
