All,
Lynn - KJ4ERJ - author of APRSIS32/CE, passed away. We don't have any more information right now. ?
I'm in a state of shock. I'm not even sure what to think. I still have tears in my eyes, so I will keep this short.
?
I was just on our monthly APRS Foundation executive team call with John Tarbox (WA1KLI) and John Langner (WB2OSZ). John T. got a phone call from Lynn's wife with the news.
?
He was one of the nicest people I've ever met, and I considered him a great friend!
?
The APRS Foundation and the APRS community worldwide know of Lynn's contributions to ham radio. His mark will never be forgotten.
?
I was just looking through the history on this group and it looks like it's been a few days since he posted.
?
We will keep you posted as we learn more, but I thought it important to let you know as soon as possible.
?
Please keep his family in your prayers.

Feel like i need a APRSISCE for dummies
Using the APRSIS32 on my windows 11 laptop. I can get my callsign in & set a manual location. But when I hit transmit. I see it do that. I see other callsigns in the log window too. But I never see my station on the aprs.fi website.?
?
So here's what I was wanting to do with this app. Basically just run it standalone at home. Without a gps or hooked to a radio for RF. I wanted to beacon an object for the repeater to show up online when looking at the aprs map.?
?
Years ago I used to run a digipeater & it was also hooked to the internet to gate stuff there. I also setup an object through that for the repeater to show up. Using UIvew32 i believe. Idk it's been a while I may have the name wrong.?
?
Currently I don't have the digipeater. I was just looking for a way to still beacon an object tthough. For now I'm just using aprs droid. But I can't seem to beacon an object with it. Just my callsign with a tower & the repeater information in the comments.?
?
I've tried to look though the APRSISCE website for perhaps something I've missed doing in setup. But I guess I keep missing something because it just never shows me on the map with this app.? |

Did your suggestion. Got my HT out and when I was Calibrating I was getting tones through my HT as I hit the different selections on the soundmodem calibrate section.

Suggesting firewall.
?
So where should I go to check this? I am running Win11.

Re: Missing setting
The PTT.dll is a WILD GOOSE CHASE! The SignaLink uses internal VOX control and does not use any external PTT lines at all.? Best to set soundmodem to VOX so it doesn't try and control the PTT on its own. Using external PTT lines WILL cause problems. If your computer's sound settings, set the volume control for 3-USB Audio Codec to a HIGH volume ( > 80%). Since the radio is going into PTT, this is probably correct. Then use the external SignaLink
TX knob to control the actual audio to the radio.? If that doesn't work, then the jumpers inside the SignaLink are probably not set properly, or there are settings within soundmodem (other than PTT) causing the problem.? Robert Giuliano

I have downloaded the PTT.dll. Where does it go? It is just a zip file with no instructions.

Here is something I discovered late last night.
?
In Soundmodem > Calibration
?
When I hit any of the tone buttons, I hear no sound but my signalink activates and keys up my radio.
?
I am using soundcard Speakers (3-usb audio codec) and Microphone (3-usb audio codec)
?
I know this is not the Soundmodem group (there isn't one that I could fine) but I appreciate all the help.

开云体育If you hit the calibrate and it keys the radio, check with another radio and see if the tones are going thru. If they are you now need to make the connection between 32 and soundmodem. Possibly a firewall issue.?

Kantronic TNC connection
Posting response to the main group. Yes, APRSIS32 can connect to any hardware TNC that can be put in KISS mode (most TNCs can). ?? Most common is the KPC-3 or KPC-3+ There are 2 ways of doing this: 1. EASIEST: Configuring the Kantronics TNC in KISS mode such that it stays there - even after a power cycle. ??? See the TNC manual for instructions, check the WIKI, or post back here for more help. ??? In APRSIS32 create a new port as a Simply(KISS) => instructions on the WIKi ?? ??? The KPC-3+ has some known issues (delays) as a DIGI, but works fine for all other operations. ??? Most other Kantronics TNCs have similar interfaces.? The TNC manual should give KISS instructions ??? Somewhere on the internet is a set of Windows compatible files that will change the TNC mode as well. 2. Option 2:? Configure theAPRSIS32 port as a Simply(KISS) port then? ???????????????????? modify the APRSIS32.xml file according to the above WIKI (lower section). I hope this helps! Robert Giuliano

Re: Missing setting
Bob--This sound very much like what I encountered when I attempted to get my laptop set up to take to Field Day last year for sending out Winlink messages.? Microsoft Surface Pro, DRA-50 interface, Kenwood TMV-71a.? Used UZ7HO for the software.? I finally did get the computer to transmit but took a bunch of searching to make things happen.? Iscrounged around and found the solution that helped me, but in the meantime what is your "new" computer?? Is it actually new (or newer) or is it a repurposed to your shack?? Think my issue was more with Windows 11.??
?
My post on FB:? ?Trying to get set up for running Winlink at Field Day tomorrow with my Win11 Laptop and a DRA-50. Absolutely cannot get UZ7HO Soundmodem software to key the radio. Have PTT.DLL installed (but soundmodem says not found) and cannot get into the advanced PTT setting on Soundmodem program.
?
The answer I got (which I copied over and pasted on FB:
?
Well, on another forum, a gent by the name of Steve M shared this fix. I tried it and it made me good! My thanks to him. How he knows this is beyond me, as I could barely follow his directions, but he did, I did, and it works. Posting it?here in case anyone has to search this out in the future. His suggestion:
Try this:
- Press the `Windows` key and `R` together to open the Run dialog box.
- Type `sysdm.cpl` and press Enter to launch System Properties.
- Move to the **Advanced** tab inside the System Properties window and click on **Settings** under **Performance**.
- Navigate to the **Data Execution Prevention** tab.
- There are 2 choices. The first is "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only". If yours is set to this, there's nothing you can do here to change that soundmodem.exe error.
- The second choice is "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:" If yours is set to this, you have 2 choices:
1. Leave that setting as-is, then:
- Click **Add..** and then browse to and select `C:\soundmodem\soundmodem.exe` (or wherever you installed `soundmodem.exe` and the `PTT-DLL` files).
- Click **Apply**, then **OK** and **OK** again to close all the dialog boxes.
2. Change the setting to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only”.
- Restart `soundmodem.exe`. PTT EXT should work now.
?
End Quote
?
I would suggest you proceed with caution cuz I am not a computer guru, record all changes in case of issues.? Wish you luck with your issue.?
?
As a side note, I searched a Q & A forum on UZ7HO website and see that this is a regular problem that folks encounter.? Only problem is there are no answers published on there, as it says the author will respond via email only.? I never did get an email answer.....

Re: Missing setting
The OP stated the device is a TigerTronics? SignaLink USB - it uses a pseudo VOX for PTT.? Nothing to configure - EXCEPT volume output before the external control on the SignaLink.? No CAT or ptt dll required. If your computer has a volume control for the SignaLink USB,that should be set to max volume (well > 80%), then use the external SignaLink dial to control the actual audio to the radio.? That is what controls the PTT line on the SignalInk to the radio. Robert Giuliano

Did you install ptt.dll in the same directory as SoundModem? That is needed for PTT. You can download from the same site that you got SoundModem from. Then in SoundModem go to Settings -> Devices -> Select PTT port, then choose CAT and click OK. Then the dialog for configuring the serial port settings will appear.?
?
Once that is done, if you select Calibration -> Both Tones in SoundModem, does the radio switch to TX and produce a signal?
?

Re: Missing setting
I assume (maybe bad idea) that the interface is the same as on the old computer and was working. ?? UZ7HO configuration to APRSIS32 - AGW or KISS mode, and related parameters. If so,I would start with UZ7HO and the SignaLink.? They controls the PTT and audio output. Are you seeing station from UZ7HO appear (receive working)? ?? That would be another indication the UZ7HO to APRSIS32 connection is working. If the UZ7HO interface is AGW, you can use something like AGWMonitor to see if the communication between them is working. But get nothing when I hit "Transmit". I see the red line at the top when I do, but it is not engaging my Azden 7000H via my Signalink USB.

What could I have missed? Where should I look to find this issue?

开云体育The only file that hold the configuration is APRSIS32.XML in the default directory from which you execute APRSIS32. But you may also want to copy over any cached map tiles that are pointed to by the tile sets in that configuration as other have suggested. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE
