Re: Missing setting

Bob--This sound very much like what I encountered when I attempted to get my laptop set up to take to Field Day last year for sending out Winlink messages.? Microsoft Surface Pro, DRA-50 interface, Kenwood TMV-71a.? Used UZ7HO for the software.? I finally did get the computer to transmit but took a bunch of searching to make things happen.? Iscrounged around and found the solution that helped me, but in the meantime what is your "new" computer?? Is it actually new (or newer) or is it a repurposed to your shack?? Think my issue was more with Windows 11.??
?
My post on FB:? ?Trying to get set up for running Winlink at Field Day tomorrow with my Win11 Laptop and a DRA-50. Absolutely cannot get UZ7HO Soundmodem software to key the radio. Have PTT.DLL installed (but soundmodem says not found) and cannot get into the advanced PTT setting on Soundmodem program.

The answer I got (which I copied over and pasted on FB:

Well, on another forum, a gent by the name of Steve M shared this fix. I tried it and it made me good! My thanks to him. How he knows this is beyond me, as I could barely follow his directions, but he did, I did, and it works. Posting it?here in case anyone has to search this out in the future. His suggestion:
Try this:
- Press the `Windows` key and `R` together to open the Run dialog box.
- Type `sysdm.cpl` and press Enter to launch System Properties.
- Move to the **Advanced** tab inside the System Properties window and click on **Settings** under **Performance**.
- Navigate to the **Data Execution Prevention** tab.
- There are 2 choices. The first is "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only". If yours is set to this, there's nothing you can do here to change that soundmodem.exe error.
- The second choice is "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:" If yours is set to this, you have 2 choices:
1. Leave that setting as-is, then:
- Click **Add..** and then browse to and select `C:\soundmodem\soundmodem.exe` (or wherever you installed `soundmodem.exe` and the `PTT-DLL` files).
- Click **Apply**, then **OK** and **OK** again to close all the dialog boxes.
2. Change the setting to "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only”.
- Restart `soundmodem.exe`. PTT EXT should work now.

End Quote

I would suggest you proceed with caution cuz I am not a computer guru, record all changes in case of issues.? Wish you luck with your issue.?
?
As a side note, I searched a Q & A forum on UZ7HO website and see that this is a regular problem that folks encounter.? Only problem is there are no answers published on there, as it says the author will respond via email only.? I never did get an email answer.....
