I didn't notice you could change servers till you mentioned, I took another squiz through the file and found it. Perhaps I'll try a number of servers and maybe that might also help. From the list at I see there's none in South Africa but I'll ping around and find one that is close, who knows, might fix some connection issues. Looking forward to being online! The APRSISCE.XML file is editable when the client is not running if you'd like to specify a different, possibly more-local APRS-IS server to connect to. I believe it ships connecting to one of the rotate level 2 servers, but I'm not actually sure any more. Just make sure you connect to a filtered port (typically 14580) or you can rapidly overwhelm the best cellular data connection! I'll be watching for your station to get stabilized. Got good news and bad news... good news, it works! Managed to get a solid connection via mobile internet. The bad news, it didn't last long. The issue is clearly the mobile ISP I have and will try sort it out. I saw my callsign pop up on the web aprs though which confirmed it's working. Thanks! The spot where it says "Delay Connect" is where it shows the current status of the APRS-IS connection. When all is working well, it should say "APRS OK". "Delay Connect" means that APRSISCE has attempted to connect and failed and is now in a holding pattern before attempting the next connection.

Can you verify that you have a good data connection using Internet Explorer to your favorite web site first? If IE can't bring up a page, then APRSISCE most likely can't establish a connection either. In order to diagnose this further, I could use a copy of your .XML configuration file and a .LOG of the operation of APRSISCE. To get these files, follow the steps below: 1) Turn on Debug Logging via Menu/Enables/Debug Logging 2) Exit APRSISCE 3) Restart APRSISCE (This captures the startup debug) 4) Wait for the "Delay Connect" to appear. 5) Turn off Debug Logging the same way it was turned on 6) Exit APRSISCE You should have two files in My Documents which are also synch'd to your desktop if you sync your phone. They will be APRSISCE.XML (the configuration file) and APRSISCE.LOG (the debug log). It is important to make sure these files synchronized after APRSISCE was closed or they won't have the latest data. E-mail the files direct to KJ4ERJ@... please. Hi all,
Firstly, thanks for such a great little program on the wm6 phone, loving it. I'm just having one thing confusing me though... forgive me it has been mentioned before but I have searched and couldn't find any mention. On my screen it comes up with "DELAYED CONNECT" at the top, I press transmit but don't see my call sign pop up on the live feed on the web, just wondering what could be the issue here, I'm most definate it's my side, always is haha Any assistance would be of great help. I have not yet spiffied up the installation procedure for the program. Personally, as long as it is a single .EXE, I have no problem with simply copying it somewhere on the phone and creating a shortcut to the menu by hand. As for syncing WM6, that's what I use to copy it. I hook it up for sync, browse the phone, and drop it on the SD card. Actually, I'll probably be building an auto-update notification and copy function into the program before setting up a full installer. Or is there something missing here that an installer will do for me? And/or what true purpose would an "installation icon" serve? Is it blank on the phone or on the desktop? Any volunteers to make a nice looking, Windows Mobile-compatible Icon for APRSISCE for Windows Mobile? (I'm a very good programmer, but a lousy artist!). Yes, there's another new release of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile. Mostly
this release is about fixing up some screen layout issues on different shaped phones and phones with different font sizes. If you've had screen layout issues, check this one out! Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - Author of APRSISCE for Windows Mobile Here's what's new in APRSISCE6P091105.zip Those that had screen layout and font size issues, give this version a try and read #2 and #16. 1) Corrected a spontaneous exit issue if OSM Tile loading fails. 2) Support operator selection of Orientation via View/Map Menu. Options are Automatic (what it originally was), Wide (stuff at the top), or Narrow (stuff at the left). The choice is recorded in the XML configuration file and is used on restart. (For you XML hackers, the tag is <Orientation> and 0=Narrow, 1=Wide, 2=Auto). 3) Support XML configuration of the toggle between Date and Time. The originally coded value of 2367 is the default. The value is which units digits of the seconds will display the Date. To have only time displayed, the value should be empty. To only display the date, the value should be 0123456789. Get it? 4) Detect and track time-delayed duplicate track entries caused (apparently) by KPC-3+ Digis in KISS mode. These display as yellow squares in the tracks which no longer ping-pong back and forth if the duplicate is detected. Dupes are also counted and displayed in the station Information window. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to highlight the Digi and/or IGates that are causing the delayed duplication. 5) Did some work with rejecting position updates that are too far away or too fast of moving, but I still don't like it so it mostly just complains into the .LOG file and accepts the position update anyway... 6) Ability to filter what stations are displayed via a View menu option. Choices are All (original and default), Buddies (only those stations listed in a b/ in your filter), Duplicates (only those stations with detected duplicates), and Tracks (only stations that have moved). The View filter is NOT recorded and reverts back to all on a restart. There will be future additions to the filter options. 7) Only treat a { in a message as the ack delimiter if it is within 6 characters of the end of the message. 8) Improve drawing performance of max-ed or min-ed colored bar charts (empty rectangles). 9) Display local date/time when the GPS is disabled 10) Suppress Lookup and Message menu options for Objects 11) Added the ability to Retry or Abort a pending (non-acknowledged) message. No auto-retry yet, though. 12) The map is no longer clipped to the circle but overflows and fills between the other boxes. The circle is still there to provide for a scale. Let me know what you think about this change. I kind of like not wasting the screen estate and seeing the stations outside the circle. 13) Satellite PRNs (numbers) are shown in a smaller font both in the circle and at the bottom of the screen. I can still read them on my phone, but I'm anxious to see if I made them too small for some platforms. 14) Fix leaking GDI brush in painting the Pending Message window. This would cause the client to lock up your phone if you left it running for a LONG time. 15) The Win32 version of the client detects and complains about leaking GDI resources (this is how I figured out #14). 16) Made some MAJOR revisions in how the various information rectangles are positioned during resizing. Nearly all of it is based on fonts now, so those of you that had trouble with the satellites at the bottom or the stations on the left should see a HUGE improvement. Let me know what you think. If you don't like one layout, toggle the View/Map and try it the other way. 17) Warn if closing the client with non-acknowledged messages pending. 18) Ack indicators ({nnnnn) are removed from messages 19) Much improved and extended Platform detection using ToCalls Completed ToDo from previous release: Fix up fonts for VGA (640x480) devices (test with Noel W8TVI) To Dos: (Incomplete) Automatic, decaying retransmission of non-acked messages (start at 30+ seconds due to APRS-IS dupe checker) Read message display (they disappear now once read) Tile ager/purger - Critical now that you can center on other stations! Parse and display Frequency object information Parse, use, and transmit !DAO! (APRS PRECISION AND DATUM OPTION) Support the -180/180 latitude wrap with closest display tile Find a better icon scaling algorithm based on screen size & scale Allow configuration of location for OSMTiles cache (w/o editing XML) Allow configuration of date/time display & GMT vs local (Dave N8PU) Allow configurable removal of some screen elements (Satellites, John N8JJ) Pan (Drag) screen for browsing the map Record/Recall last DNS/IP for OSM/APRS-IS (in config file, for connecting without DNS) Asynchronous TCP/IP connections & reading (solves hangs) Timeout on OSM Tile fetcher (solves stalls) Implement whatever results from the Zoom +/- Poll Win32 client only for the following: Simultaneously track multiple targets in separate circles Support NMEA GPS Extreme future: Support KISS TNCs Detect and highlight source of delayed duplications Better speed/distance rejection algorithms Additional View/Filter options based on symbol types Auto-retry Pending Messages Feed-through APRS-IS with local filters (for multiple instances of Win32 version with a single full feed to APRS-IS). |

As soon as the "Quick GPS" program can download good data which seems to be a problem in the US since the DST change has screwed up the use of the built in GPS; but that is a discussion for a different forum. My phone, using the HTC Touch/Sprint unlimited plan CE6.1
Comments about when screen goes dark; does program keep running? On the Touch, the answer is YES. The screen goes dark to save battery but all applications keep running. Push the power switch and screen is back up, everything including GPS is working. I didn't need to change any settings for this on the Touch. Texting is much faster using my phone, over the Kenwood D710 or similar. Even though I don't have a real key pad on this phone, using the stylus and the on screen typing keyboard is a breeze. It is taking some time to get the local digi owners to change their settings to the internet to get full duplex with radio based APRSers but they are coming around once I show them this program. BTW, I love the phone icon. It brings interesting coments from FindU users ;-) Especially since my message is my phone number. Everyone I've shown this to is WOWed by it! My only negative comment is that + and - which I guess you asked the group about (before I tried the program) works opposite from any GPS I've owned so I have to stop and think about which way to press. + should be for zooming in for more detail. But don't change it on my account ;-) This latest version has a couple of neat additions. Keep up the good work! Thanks again,73 John K2QY |

The red dot (there should only be one of them) indicates your projected position based on the most recent beacon that APRSISCE transmitted. The red dot isn't scaled to the map, but to the surrounding circle. In the Genius Beacon settings, there's a Forecast Error that defaults to 0.1 miles (1/10 mile). That distance is considered to the be radius of the circle. The red dot will range from the center towards the edge in the direction that your last beaconed heading and speed would place you. When the red dot hits the edge, if the Min Time has elapsed, a new beacon will be issued. For instance, let's say your last beacon said you were going due East at 5 miles per hour. Right after that beacon, you increased your speed to 7 miles per hour. The red dot will start lagging to the west as you travel faster east than your last beacon would indicate. When the forecast lags by 1/10 mile, the dot will hit the left edge of the circle and a new beacon will be sent and the red dot will jump back to the center to be covered by your own icon. If you turn slightly left or right, you will see the red dot slow start moving towards the edge as your current path veers away from where an extrapolated position would put you. Again, when it has seen an accumulated error of 1/10 mile (or whatever you have configured for the Forecast Error), a new beacon will be sent. Hopefully that clarifies the mysterious red dot!
