Re: Using the mini lathe
I suspect that in the mini-lathe world, most get relatively light and intermittent use.? So low, that you probably couldn't wear the ways all that much during a lifetime oiled or not.? The greater risk is likely rust in the amateur machining world. However, being really careless, like getting a lot of grinding dust all over everything, might certainly speed up wear.? But even then, I doubt if most would live long enough to see a problem. In a professional environment with larger machines and near constant use, they are typically taken care of daily and "way oil" is used to protect ways and similar sliding surfaces. Way oil is special because it has a "tackifier" that helps it stay put (doesn't run off), even on vertical surfaces (rather handy for milling machines) and provides good lubrication to lower friction.? But for the mini-lathe, probably most any oil will do with the important thing being that at least something is put on the bare metal ways and other surfaces. But if you want to use actual "way oil", you can get a small 12 oz. bottle from Grizzly that will probably last you a lifetime. Charles E. "Chuck" Kinzer

Yes. Polish is abrasive and you don't want any getting on the ways. On Sat, Jun 8, 2024, 8:12 PM mario mohl via <mario.mohl=[email protected]> wrote:

Do some mini lathes have smaller spindle hole? Dave? I can see why you want a bigger hole.? The on the chart for a 3" is only 0.63"? I just a 5" 4 jaw on my lathe it set up for a 4" chuck.? Most almost same model of chuck 3 or 4 inch? I will miss fun 4 jaw chuck and bars. It more taking on off chucks it time to do right.? Dave? You use 4jaw chuck?

No, I fully understood what you were asking. I mentioned it as an aside. My apologies. Should have been more clear about that.

Re: Project New type of material
It could take longer with heat wave.
My wife and Doctors do not want meb work heat.? Whe new lathe last November I wanted to know from Doctor what diet I should to live 20 or 30 years longer. Thinking it was going to green flufy with a drill flavor shake with hit of mint.? So ask the question.? How long can live with stage 4 cancer.? Thd doctor replied? No one makes pass 10 years. It took me a few seconds to respond with. I was diagnosed with stage 4 in 2009.? The doctor respond with I know. At that point I realized the Green Fluffy Deit did not work. I check with other doctors and Americans Cancer they said about same thing.? So now everyone think I going to brake.? So that is why it taking so long to work with my new lathe Dave? |

开云体育What is 13//16? ?I’d guess about 20mm? ? Seems a lot of work for marginal gain. ? Then there are others who complain the mini-lathe is not very stiff. ?It would seem that boring the spindle even a little would not improve the stiffness. ? ?And YES it matters. ?All the cutting force that bends the frame and the bed is transmitted through the spindle.
