Re: For mini lathe

Here where you can find parts is AliExpress.

They also have big red in green and blue.

Yes loosing the center pulley is very simple on big red . On the larger round column mill drills the 3 pulleys are not all three in a line with the column sticking up so the idler pulley is offset from the front & back pulleys .? I'll see if I can find some pics .

It like any other China made equipment you finish it.??

I use tang and the draw bar together?
Add fine feed to quill
Torque arm?
Took out center pulley?

Now great mill

It;s a lot different that it was even 5 years ago . panels that were over 4 bucks a watt are under a buck a watt these days . I didn't think the Big Red group was still around . I have one buried on a bench at my old shop . It's next to one of the larger Mill Drills on the same bench . The guy before me tipped teh mill drill over when moving it &? destroyed the middle/idler pulley & its mount . It's totally different one then the one on Big Red , or I would have been using it for the last several years .

It nice size mill still made just not sold in America . It use 2 morse tapper and draw bar.?
There is group on Big Red too.??

Nice here about off grid power I have look at off grid since 1970's.?

Re: For mini lathe

The real answer is to use a machine that has a draw bar to keep the taper seated. Lacking that, there are some work arounds. The simplest (sleaziest) is helping the taper to stick with some cyanoacrylate glue - acetone, heat & mild profanity will help release it when you're done. The other approach is to cross drill the (usually soft) tang to fit a split or taper pin? that keeps things pulled up tight. If you also want a lathe project, you can make a screw with the head the size of the taper slot that threads into a tapped hole in the tang.

Dave,
Are you milling that in a drill press? (from the pic it looks like a similar model to what I have)

It is a real mill?
It nice size larger mini but small than a bench mill.
You see more at?

To get you have order from China?

Off grid works pretty well most of teh time , except for with the constant cloud cover like we have had in Northern Ca so far this year .? My other issue is I trusted the guy that I bought my system from too much & he under designed the panel count . I'm pretty sure that that may be one of the reasons that guy doesn't work for that vendor anymore .I'll fix that this spring . I left my 80 gallon 3 cylinder compressor in my old shop which is only 2 miles from the off grid . If I need air off grid I have a Honda powered compressor that I fire up whenever needed . I'm at the end of the road on 27 acres . If I see/find anyone walkin around I politely tell them private property .

If so, how you keep the vibrations from loosening the taper and dropping the chuck?

I tried to do some basic milling of aluminum with my drill press with a pretty small end mill and I could't keep the taper from letting go and dropping the whole chuck onto the workpiece (and then onto the floor).? I finally gave up.

What about plastic chain ?

The cook wax chain I have purchased for earth moving equipment.? I did think on bike.?

I have a bud that had a import 8 speed bike . had a generator in the front hub , transmission in the rear hub . They even put a /some capacitors in the system to keep the tail lite lite in case ya stopped the bike for a short period . That bike was much smoother than I remember the Sturmey Archer 3 speeds from way back. I have a vague memory of trying to take a part one of those Sturmey 3 speed hubs & parts & loose ball bearings shooting all over place? , needless to say that hub never shifted gears again .

Been around for about 100 years, Sturmey Archer is who you need to Google.? I think Shimano make them as well.

They made a bit of a comeback with early electric bikes before it was decided putting the motor inside the rear hub was a good idea.

I left the nice bike world just about the time that Shimano & Suntour were starting to give Campagnolo a run . It was really becoming a hassle arguing with store managers that the reason my bike was on my shoulder is cause it was worth more than most cars in his parking lot . Brass chains were big back then .
