I left the nice bike world just about the time that Shimano &
Suntour were starting to give Campagnolo a run . It was really
becoming a hassle arguing with store managers that the reason my
bike was on my shoulder is cause it was worth more than most cars
in his parking lot . Brass chains were big back then .

Chains now are matched to the exact gear system. ?For example I
have an 11-speed Shimono 105 system. ? There might be four chains
that will fit. ?Most are bright nickel plated. ?The better ones
might be hollow titanium pins. ?Road bikes are really
sophisticated machines now. ?A race bike sets you back $6K at
least. Drivetrain parts don¡¯t interchange like they did decades
ago. ? It¡¯s all carbon fiber except the bearing and gears and
chain. ? ??
Then there are kid¡¯s bikes. ?But no kid, here is So. Calif
would be seen dead on a non-electric bike.
??? ??? Are brass chains still the big deal on road
bikes ?
