Re: Broken Motor Mount - Need Help/Advice
Any welding forum has a statement that is used all the time. Cast iron breaks and if welded it will break again. Build it from iron and go to bed knowing it will work tomorrow! DBQ49er [4x6bandsaw]

Re: Broken Motor Mount - Need Help/Advice
It sounds like you have a small piece that is broken off and not a major casting failure. If that is true id fabricate new parts out of steel. I certainly would avoid trying to weld the old cast iron.

Re: Broken Motor Mount - Need Help/Advice
Here is a picture of an older saw. It is the design I am going to try to use to fab a new motor mount. This one only has a bolt on one side....the right. Mine will have one on each side.

Re: Broken Motor Mount - Need Help/Advice
Send a pic. I bet it would be easier, and stronger, to fabricate one. You need nickel rod to weld cast iron, and it does not weld like steel. Preheat is important, and stress relieving as it cools is

Preheat to 500F, then weld with the appropriate filler rod/material you are using. Rick Sent: Thursday, March 01, 2018 12:25 PM To: 4x6bandsaw@... Subject: [4x6bandsaw] Re: Broken Motor

Re: Broken Motor Mount - Need Help/Advice
Ok...I have never welded cast iron before. Also I don't have a mill. But I will still post some pictures.

Re: Broken Motor Mount - Need Help/Advice
I have re-weld cast iron before and that's why I would like to see pictures. You have to clean it up on a mill but might be an option. [4x6bandsaw] <4x6bandsaw@...> wrote:
