Thanks for the information and confirmation. I must have been having a bad day. You're spot on about the ID. Once I stepped away from the washer and measured the shaft, the OD of the shaft is .625", thus the ID of the washer needs to be at least that..... DUH! Using a different set of calipers, I can confirm, the "good" washer's ID is .688. Which causes me to ask, is the difference between shaft OD and thrust washer ID wear on the thrust, or intentional clearance? (I am told I "pick nits", feel free to advise me if I am doing so here.) Thanks for the link and transfer of knowledge on the 660 vs 841. I've never messed with thrust washers before so this is all a great education. :) Thanks and Merry Christmas! Well, the new cam followers and blade back bearing came in. The cam followers were maybe .01 bigger in diameter but that was an easy fix w/ some fine filing. Thanks for the suggestions!! Next up is replacing all 7 roller bearings, a couple of seals, a few thrust bearings, finish cleaning up the main body, prime, paint, and reassemble. This thing is FINALLY coming?together. :) I'll post pics and a bit of a write up once completed. While I doubt anyone else needs the part numbers, I'll post the part numbers I've used. Heck, I might need them later. :) You guys continue to rock! Thanks for the help, inspiration, and support!! Darren

Re: New file uploaded to 4x6bandsaw
Ok, I have a couple of ideas about the design. One design would be printed similar to the aluminum piece that you use to carry the hacksaw blade scraper. I envision making the angled blade carrier (the area that the scraper blade is attached to) somewhat larger for more support from the plastic and slotted such that the blade could be sandwiched between two sides. I would then use an appropriately sized screw through the hole in the blade and press-fit a nut in an inset on the blade side to clamp the blade in place.?
The other idea would be to just print the whole thing and do away with the blade altogether...alternatively, slot it as above so that a replaceable wiper blade made of one or more thicknesses of plastic cut from a milk jug could be used. As for the vertical seat/table, I like the hinged design that is in the Sept/Oct 1997 HSM magazine. A picture of it is in the files or photos section...I have that particular issue so not sure where it is here. When you refer to the top surface of the guide roller block being square to the blade, that is something I hadn't considered! Are you are referring to the surface of the guide roller block that the scraper attaches to, so that if it is not perpendicular to the top of the blade the scraper blades will be skewed and could hit the teeth of the blade? |
Re: New file uploaded to 4x6bandsaw
Cool.??
You might want to increase its size a bit and make a mini-vertical-table so that you don't need to take it off to replace with the vertical table. There are pictures in the Photos section for them that can be left on when the saw is used horizontally and are instantly ready for vertical use.? Not big, but enough for most jobs. Only thing I can think of which might be a problem (and it is how ever you make any scraper) - check that the top surface of the guide roller block is square to the blade - often they're not - jv |
Re: New file uploaded to 4x6bandsaw
Of course, those of us with 3D printers are likely wondering if perhaps a unit such as the one that uses hacksaw blades as wipers could not be printed entirely out of a water-resistant material such as PETG.?
I have some PETG filament that has some flexibility to it...maybe I'll give it a go. |

Re: Bainbridge blade guides
JV, More great info. However, the link isn't working for me. Maybe it's just me? I do plan on fabricating a blade brush/scraper/wiper. If I'm imagining this correctly, the swarf would basically act like mini hammer strikes against the guide rollers. The largest down side I can imagine is that I'll lose some blade rigidity as the "scraper" would need to exist just in front of the rollers. Not that big of a deal, as far as I can?imagine.? As far as the drip pan goes. Great point on the horizontal drip. I hadn't thought of that aspect of the project. Furthermore, the electrical components of the motor, switch, lines, etc, need to be considered. This will present an interesting opportunity for some real red neck engineering as the motor does swing below the original pan horizontal plane. Perhaps a "drip deflection pan"? I'll have to play all those scenarios out once the saw is back in one piece. (It is currently in about 150.) I had planned on rewiring the motor, buying a new switch, etc. anyway.? Robert, GREAT point. Once the new cam followers come in, I'll see if they indeed are hollow and will either press some brass plugs, or perhaps, find some screws that fit the thread. Worse case, a dab of JB weld. I'm only kind of joking about the JB weld. :) Thanks for the thought provoking input to you all! Great community you have here. I'm glad I was directed ya'll's way! Merry Christmas! Darren

My two cents:?? If Ed says the cam followers are slush filled that just means there's enough grease in them to stop it rusting etc so it still needs extra grease before being put into use.? Agree you don't need to put is a zerk but you will need to fill the internal space inside the cam follower with grease (without blowing the seals!). ? _,_.___ Posted by: vreededesign@...
