Dear Sangha, In a few short days, I will hit the 6 month anniversary of my stem cell transplant. With all the political craziness, terrible social problems and racial injustice, and the devastating pandemic, I wanted to share a little gratitude with you all.? So many of you helped my wife and me during my transplant time with food, transportation, company and just being there for me. I am profoundly grateful.
To celebrate my transplantiversary, I hiked and summited Mt. Sniktau today. Its trailhead is at Loveland Pass and is a very accessible, enjoyable hike. I was unprepared for the emotions it elicited though. On the way down, I reflected on my transplant and how crazy lucky I am to be associated with a sangha like you. I also realize how fortunate I am to have had such a competent healthcare team. I certainly know how fortunate I am to have my family.
I just wanted to say thank you. These are really challenging times and just know that you helped one person get through one of his darkest periods. I'll be forever grateful.

Dear Greg, I agree. ?I can¡¯t imagine how difficult it is for musicians of any sort. But we will be getting back to listening and enjoying live music again. I have had a very positive summer with my own growth as an artist. I had two tapestry fiber pieces accepted into the Rocky Mountain Biennial at the Museum of Art in Ft. Collins. ?108 pieces were accepted and they took 2 of mine. ?Both of which won Honorable Mentions. This is the first time my work has ever been in a museum. ?They even gave me a name tag that had my name over the word ARTIST. ?Who knew?!? ?I guess I am really an artist if they gave me a name tag stating such. ?Now all I have to get is the secret decoder ring and I will be ready to pursue my new career.

Thank you David. ?It sure looks like the concert season will be postponed until January, 2021 at the earliest. My cello teacher is a contract musician and he's had to line up a real office job temporarily. It really sucks for those poor folks.
Hope you are well. Greg Dear Greg, I am so pleased to read this.? I can understand the emotions that must have been running through you.? I alway have a reaction like this after the worst part is over.? What a perfect place to feel those feelings. ? Dear Sangha, Here is the?mindfulness exercise for the week.? Discussion and observations will be shared in our regular Zoom practice meeting this Friday morning. These exercises are taken from Jan Chozen Bays' book?.? Below is this week's exercise and the Zoom link for Friday mornings.??Please note: ALL are welcome to come and sit zazen for two rounds on Friday whether or not you are doing the mindfulness activity!
Exercise 12:? Waiting
The Exercise:?Any time you find yourself waiting¡ªwhen you¡¯re in line at the store, waiting for someone who¡¯s late, or waiting for the ¡°please wait¡± icon on your computer screen to go away¡ªtake this as an opportunity to practice mindfulness, meditation, or prayer.
There are several good mindfulness practices for waiting time. One is mindfulness of breath, beginning with a few deep breaths to help dispel body tension over having to wait or the possibility of someone you are waiting for being late. Find the place in your body where you are most aware of the breath¡ªnostrils, chest, or belly¡ªand put your attention on the sensations in that area, noticing how they are continuously changing. Another useful practice for waiting time is listening to sounds, opening and expanding your hearing to take in the whole room. Other good practices include loving-kindness for the body (chapter 51) and relaxing on the out-breath: each time you breathe out, notice any extra holding or tension in the body¡ªaround the eyes or mouth, in the shoulders or belly¡ªand let it soften. When you notice yourself becoming annoyed by having to ¡°wait,¡± remind yourself[¡]¡±

I'm writing to enlist some help when and if possible for an old dharma friend. Mary Mich, a former member, current friend of the center, and honored elder has Parkinson's disease and now memory loss. Mary was a true friend, guide and support for me when I joined the Center 30 years ago. Mary's background as a nurse, massage therapist and chiropractor helped many of us through rough patches in sesshins. She had wonderful healing hands and would meet anyone in the office who needed a little help and nurturing. She is currently living alone in Winsor Gardens with her dog, Max. I and a few friends are trying to help Mary stay in her condo as long as she can. The one thing that she could use help with right now is food.? So what I'm wondering is this: many of us are over at ZCD for vigil or garden practice. would it be possible if you are cooking something to make an extra serving that could be either frozen or that can keep for few days in the fridge to leave at the ZC. I can pick it up and take to Mary.? She is vegetarian and loves stir fries, tofu, pastas, mexican, soups, salads etc. She apparently does not like Italian red sauce.? Thank you, Peggy

Open Create & Friday Mindfulness
Dear Sangha,
Here is a link to the notes for this past Saturday's Open Create group meeting: meetinghttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1ViHMvSnEKhVyt_1Y4DHdVzNLbJtgl3ARBNv9EZyz0tY/edit?usp=sharing
Also, here is this week's mindfulness activity?from Jan Chozen Bays' book??(discussion follows sitting on this Friday, July 31, 6:30-7:30am):
Exercise 11:? Loving Touch
The Exercise:?Use loving hands and a loving touch, even with inanimate objects.
REMINDING YOURSELF Put something unusual on a finger of your dominant hand. Some possibilities include a different ring, a Band-Aid, a dot of nail polish on one nail, or a small mark made with a colored pen. Each time you notice the marker, remember to use loving hands, loving touch.
