opinions on cataract surgery 7
I am going to have cataract surgery in the near future - possibly Dec/Jan or my preference- March. Due to other eye issues, I can only get the single focal length lens as an implant and am debating whether I should get corrected for distance as most people seem to be, or choose mid-distance or close-up instead. The rest would be corrected with glasses. Mid-distance seems to be what I look at most of the time - computer, tablet, around the house and garden, assuming that is what mid-distance is. I'm going to verify when I go to get the measurements taken this week. I've been wearing my reading glasses around the house to see how close-up would look and that also seems to work fine. I can't see the TV but I don't watch the TV very often - I usually listen to it. Any thoughts and experiences? -- Jaya http://knitsarina.blogspot.com/

New Beginnings! 37
Congratulations Mary! Moving is daunting, but how exciting. I’ll let everyone know in another 10 months or so whether I think moving over the course of almost a year is *less* daunting or more because I closed on my house last Monday. I’m going to be working on learning to live in the space, which is a good space for me, but it’s still less than half the size of the house I sold, and in figuring out how to be in two places effectively for the next year, since Arielle would like to be there as much as possible (it being a very short walk to the ocean) and yet it’s over an hour from where we are now and she needs to be here for school. Because I don’t have enough going on between house, college search for Arielle, Ezra working on applying to grad school, and Baird working on finding a job, I got a puppy 2 weeks ago. She is adorable and personable, but a lot of work, especially because my 3 year old dog is still afraid of her. I’m very excited because some friends I met through Ravelry are coming in a few weeks to help me clear out my storage unit, which means that I’m going to be reunited with my stash and actually able to weave on floor looms again. Provided I’m at the Shore and the puppy lets me, of course. As you might imagine, not much knitting going on, but I do have a project sitting on my desk for conference calls, so there is some. Tom and Linda Diak
Hi everyone. Some of you are familiar with DyakCraft wood and metal needles made in Vermont. Tom Diak's wooden hookd and needles are beautiful and wonderful to you. Linda sews every needle case for sets and they are lovely too. She is a talented quilter. Tom's has worn out his hands making needles and now needs surgery. They are a tiny business. Tom will be unable to make needles and hooks for a year while he recovers from surgery. If you are moved to help, I think it's a worthy cause. I'll link their site and the GoFundMe page. https://gofund.me/534e7fbe Their website; Tom made one last group of needles before he had to stop: Dyakcraft I feel Connie's pain! We moved yesterday. Now a mountain of boxes. The kitchen boxes are in the living room b/c our kitchen isn't ready! Bonus: I get to eat out - a lot. Ready to feel more settled. Mary.

Mary Remember that big open playground basement? Look now. And this doesn’t even include the 3 looms. ? Connie On Jan 16, 2022, at 2:51 PM, mary_007usa via groups.io <sewgood5@...> wrote: ?What a fine playground that will be for you! Wide open spaces for all of your equipment and treasures. Mary.

Finally listed 12
We are finally moved and have the house listed. It went up Friday. Only had one viewing Saturday morning. ? Sure hope the stupid Fed didn’t just kill our chances to sell. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4380-Salisbury-Ct-Franklin-OH-45005/35614666_zpid/?utm_source=txtshare Connie

The great migration has begun 26
This last weekend was the beginning of moving things from inside this home to the new one. (Darryl had already taken several loads from the garage to “His” barn.) Today we took an entire cargo trailer of yarn, wool rovings, and a few sewing things. The trailer is 12’ long x6’ wide x 7’ tall. It was packed tightly. 39 big tubs of yarn at the very front, then boxes of yarn, then wool. (This moving crap is exposing my addictions! Darryl just looks at me and carries totes.) Here’s a pic. ? Basement progress! 3
Had to stop on kitchen planning and get the basement ready for the carpet. They weren’t supposed to install until end of the month but they had a cancellation and moved us up. So on Tuesday and Wednesday, we worked until after midnight getting it emptied out and the walls & ceiling painted. (The prior owner left a lot of “stuff.” We told her we’d deal with it because she had to be back at her job only 3 days after we closed. (She moved back to Texas). Long story Still need to finish painting trim down there—windows & doors. In the walk-out basement is where my craft/sewing room will be. And my looms and wheels will be at the one end of the big room. Here are pics after carpet. It’s a cut& loop carpet that should work great for the looms and wheels. It’s low pile but very nice and squishy and feels good to walk on. Along that back wall will be my floor looms. Weird stone fireplace at the other end. This is my sewing room It’s a good sized room but small closet. I’m losing my monster storage closet. Boohoo!! ? Just so you have an idea of what we were dealing with, this is a pic of what the sewing room looked like before we painted Purple trim and painful, almost fluorescent yellow walls and bare cement floor. So nice now! Connie

Kitchen Decor help? 33
Hey guys! Happy New year to one and all. We’ve been so busy trying to get stuff done at the new house that I’ve not had time to even think. Anybody here good at decorating? I have a huge kitchen full of honey oak cabinets that are in excellent condition and too costly to replace. It needs help to look updated. We are getting new counter tops for sure, but I can’t decide what color to paint the walls that will help minimize all that honey color. I’m not thrilled with the black appliances, but they’re staying for now. Too much else to pay for—carpet, paint, etc. Here’s the pics from the real estate listing. It’s currently lavender and plum at the bottom below the chair rail. Does nothing for the room. The border with grapes is already outta there! The tile is in good shape but hate the black grout lines so we are having the grout redone. This is the countertop color I’m thinking of. And ideas are greatly appreciated! Connie

Hey Shannon! 3
I don’t know if you are still reading this list but I wanted to tell you that we (my daughter and I) made your Tres Leches cake recipe this week but we made it a fusion recipe for Rasamalai Tres Leches cake. We put cardamom and saffron in the cake and in the milk mixture instead of the cinnamon in the cake. It was awesome!-- Jaya http://knitsarina.blogspot.com/

Reweaving or French Weaving 14
?Does anybody know how to do this? I’ve decided; I’m going to learn. There is a sharp needle with a tiny latch hook on the other end that some use for reweaving. Any ideas where to buy one? Connie

Buying the house!!! 19
Well, we finally have a contract on the home we wanted that had the driveway/easement issue. The property owner of the easement hates the current owner of this house so much that he will not discuss the continued use of the easement. 厂辞…….we are just putting in a new driveway (paid out of sellers proceeds at closing.) It’s idiotic but while we are having the drive put in, we may just have the same excavation company dig a pond for us! The landscape is perfect for it. (Huge dip in the front yard) It’s taken months to get here, but I told my realtor that I’m like that dog playing with a rope toy…….you can pull it, shake it up and down and side to side…….I am NOT letting go. ? I started watching this property last spring. It was Pending then to another buyer. Didn’t sell because of easement issue. BWUHAHAHA. Until we sign the papers, though, I’m still that dog! The market here is totally insane and because of this easement issue, we got a very good deal. 7 acres in the country—only 6 minutes from my mother and 10 minutes from my daughter and grandson. It’s 2750 sq ft plus a huge unfinished walk-out basement AND there is a huge outbuilding (36x50)for DH’s toys. It’s a lot smaller than our current home but it doesn’t feel like it. Should be closing the first week of December! I’m going to pare down the sewing machine collection over the next few months. Send vibes of energy and strength. Lol. I’m gonna need it. ? Connie

Real Estate legal question. 7
Since you guys know everything…. The property we are negotiating for right now has an easement issue. Anybody here up on real estate law? We are calling a real estate lawyer to set up a consultation, but I’d love to have some idea about our situation. I’ve googled till my brain hurts. Thanks! Connie
