Yankee Rowing Self-Rescue Clinic: Saturday, August 17, at 7:30 a.m. at the dock 4
Jonathan will be leading us in a self-rescue demonstration and practice session on Saturday, August 17, at 7:30 a.m. at the marina dock. Bring a towel. (In case of bad weather/water/wind, Sunday, August 18 at 7:30 a.m. will be the back-up date.) Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. It's important to know how to self-rescue in case you fall into the river. Even if you've done a self-rescue drill previously, it's good to do it again now and then. We used to do this regularly, at least once or twice a season. But we haven't done it in a while. We're hoping to return to doing it on a regular basis. We look forward to seeing you. Best, Ernie

Paris Olympics
Hey Yankee Rowers, I am watching the Olympic opening ceremony now and am so happy that our love of water and the power of moving through water is being celebrated in Paris at the Olympics. Check it out if you haven¡¯t seen it yet. It transcends rowing. Maybe we need to move to France¡ -anne

Self Rescue Session 6
Hello Fellow Rowers, Would anyone be interested in learning how to self-rescue? Now would be the time, warm days, warm water. I know I have wanted to learn that to feel more comfortable when I¡¯m out there by myself. If anyone else is interested maybe it could be a group exercise. Otherwise, if someone could coach me individually I would appreciate that. If anyone else is interested I¡¯d be happy to organize a day and time. Thanks! River Flow - Alert 3
Hi Everyone, I trust you all check the water flow before each row, but just wanted to flag for everyone that the water flow is quite high due to excessive rain north of us. The flow is expected to be high for now and not conducive to sculling in a single. Thanks for checking in advance of each row and knowing that club boats should not be used unless the flow is 20 KCFS or lower. Yankee Rowing Boathouse Updates & Reminders
There is now a magnetic door catch on the inside of the "men's" bathroom door so that the door can stay open. After you use the bathroom, please remember to open the door all of the way so that the magnet catches and the bathroom gets aired out and dried out. The spray handle on the boathouse hose broke this morning and will be replaced with a new handle tomorrow/Friday morning. Please be careful using the new handle. Please try to avoid dropping it on the ground or on the boathouse ramp. Please don't leave club towels outside on the slings, grass, or ramp--they get or stay wet out there. Please hang them up on the clothesline inside the boathouse. Thanks very much.

Boathouse Door - Open overnight 10
Hi all, I hope this finds you well and able to stay cool. I am writing because one night this week - Wednesday, June 19th - the main door to the boathouse was left open for the night. The first early morning rower arrived at the boathouse just after 5:00 AM to find the door open. Thank you for remaining vigilant about the security of the boathouse, our equipment, and rowers who enter the boathouse each morning. In the event that anyone has trouble with the key pad, there is a closure button located inside the boathouse just above the desk. After pressing the button, the door will close while also allowing one to exit. Anyone can call me if there is a problem: 413.584.1821. Thank you for the attention. Boathouse door 4
Hello Yankee, rowers! I stopped by the boathouse this morning at 9:30 and the main door was open, and no one was around¡ According to the logbook, it looked like one person was still out, but I¡¯m not sure who it was because the name was somewhat illegible - to me at least! So, just a reminder¡ Please remember to close the door if you are the last one to leave the premises. If the key code is not working on first try, remember to punch in the numbers, very slowly, and repeat if necessary. There is also an activator button on the left side of the door on the inside, so the door could be closed using that as well. Aaaaannnndddd, when you make your entry in the logbook, please write your name legibly, just in case someone goes missing. It¡¯s good to know who that someone is! Thank you! Jenn

Green Peinert outside rack ? 7
YRC members: We were thinking of moving the Green Peinert 25¡¯. ( the number 6,) to the Outside rack. It is so high inside the boathouse it¡¯s difficult to get down. On the Outside Rack it would be much lower and easier , plus we could put a private boat in its place. Suggestions? Craig

Caution: Buoys Back On The River 2
Yankee Rowers, As some of you probably have noticed, the buoys are now back on the river: There are two "no wake" buoys in their usual spots a little downstream of the marina. There is a "no wake" buoy in the middle of the river just upstream of the rail trail bridge. Also, about 1/3 of a mile or so upstream from the rail trail bridge, there is a red buoy in the river about 30-40 yards from the bank on the Hadley side of the river. It's in line with the third set of docks on the Hadley side upstream from the rail trail bridge. (It's easy not to see it, and it's easy to hit it when you are rowing upstream if you're not looking for it. So, please keep an eye out for it.) Best, Ernie

Yankee Rowing Boathouse Door Problems 4
Yankee Rowers, On and off many of us have been having trouble getting the boathouse door to open, and we've had to enter the four digit code + "Enter" several times to get the door to open. We spoke with Gary, the marina owner, and he suggested this: Enter the four digit code + "Enter" slowly. He said that, if the lights behind the code keys are flashing, then the code is being entered too fast. So, please give that a try. (And please let me know if you are still having trouble getting the door to open.) Thanks very much. -- Ernie
