This is a Test (for [email protected]) 2
Hi, Moi (and whomever else is there), I received an invitation to join [email protected] at my email below. I replied and received a confirmation email, and I think I'm now on the list. This is my first attempt at sending an email to the list (it looks like there are three of us on the list). Please let me know if you've received it. Thanks for doing this, Moi. Happy Halloween! Adding YRC members to 开云体育 5
Looking into the different ways to import the members' list to this new group, I find two options. 1. We can send an invitation to join this new group to all our members. They will have to each join. This is free. 2. We can upgrade to a paid membership for one month and directly add everybody to this new group. The cost will be $20 My recommendation will be to go with option #2. Moi

End of club rowing season Nov. 14 11
November 14 will be the last day this season for rowing club boats. The water temperature is already slightly below our 50F threshold. Thanks to exceptional weather we've been able to extend the season considerably (last year we closed down on Nov. 1). Thank you for rowing carefully and safely as the water temperature has dropped and winds have been more challenging. Those of you with private boats are free to row at your discretion, but please be cautious and careful: hypothermia, strong currents, and winds are dangerous. It's best to row with a buddy nearby. If you leave access ports open on your boats in the boathouse, you are likely to discover in the spring that your hulls have been used for small-animal shelters. Best is to figure out a way to put screen or hardware cloth over an open port in such a way that an animal, working 24/7, will not gain access. The boathouse will remain accessible throughout the winter. There will be no heat and no water. But the club erg is there for you to enjoy! It's not hard to lift the non-flywheel end and roll it out onto the asphalt where the view, the temperature, and the sunshine may be nicer. Please share; I have no intention of setting up a reservation system! A small piece of news: We have sold the Tom & May heavyweight double to Northampton Community Rowing. Sally Linowski and Gloria DiFulvio, NCR alums who joined YRC, delivered the Tom & May by water! We have bought a mid-weight Fluid double that should arrive in the next month or so. The hope is that the new boat, though not ideal for every pair of rowers, will suit more pairs than a heavyweight. Thanks to Moi, we have set up a new group messaging system to replace the Yahoo group (All Yahoo groups vanish on Dec. 15). Messages from the group will have [yankeerowing] in the subject field so you can search for them easily. A message sent to [email protected] will send the message to everyone. If you have trouble or questions, please contact Bob Sproull <rfsproull@...> or Moi Wurgaft <moiwurgaft@...>. A few more details about the group are given below. I am very grateful to all of you for making this season enjoyable and smooth. You gracefully adapted to COVID-19 precautions, to a surge in membership, to musical chairs for rack assignments, and to a reservation system for club boats. And thanks to all who pitched in to do what needed doing without being asked; special thanks, as always, to Ernie and Craig. Many thanks. It's ludicrous to wish you as pleasant an off-season as a season on the water, but please enjoy yourself as best you can. Bob A few more details about the groups.io message service: Everyone who is on this list has a groups.io "account." This is group.io's way of letting you control settings about your receipt of messages. You can log in by pointing your browser at http://groups.io/login and entering the email address you use to receive Yankee Rowing email. Initially, the account has no password; you can set one if you wish. Using your email address for login is just a way to identify you; it has NOTHING to do with your email account. After you log in, you can see the group ([email protected]) and its messages. You can change settings using the Subscription and Admin buttons on the left. Attachments such as photographs should sail through. If you reply to a message sent to the group, your reply will go to the whole group unless you change the To: field when you compose your reply. If you uncover tricks and tips about using the group, feel free to inform the whole club by sending out a message. If you want to see general information about the group, go to http://groups.io/g/yankeerowing Comments and questions to Bob Sproull <rfsproull@...> or Moi Wurgaft <moiwurgaft@...>

Used rowing shell looking for a good home
Hello Scullers -- Our friend EB Lehman sent this notice of a free Alden on Cape Cod. I'm copying her on this message in case anyone wants more information. Stay warm -- Robin Robin Barber Gallery of Readers Press cell 4*3-695-5343 land 4*3-585-8530 16 Vernon Street Northampton, MA 01060-2862 ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Elizabeth Lehman <eblehman5@...> Date: Tue, Feb 16, 2021 at 4:28 PM Subject: Used rowing shell looking for a good home To: Carol Edelstein <caroledelstein@...>, Robin Barber <robertebarber@...> Hello Carol & Robin, Greetings, friends! A friend of mine on the Cape has a used rowing shell (an ocean shell, it seems) and rigging (see photos) which belonged to her dad. He died a few years ago, and his boat is in need of a new owner and home. Might this boat be of any interest to...you? Yankee Rowing? Some other lucky soul who wants a free boat? I don't know when it was built but I think it's in good shape, sea-worthy, etc. It is on the Cape. xoxo EB

February depression? 5
I don't know about you, but February s**ks, even when there's no pandemic. Here's possible relief if you're a yoga fan or wannabe. BTW This comes from Small Club Networking, an email group started by our friends at PVRC (Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club) in Springfield. It's obviously spread its infection far beyond the Pioneer Valley. This is from row@... I *love* their logo!!!! Bob ================ To keep our members engaged through the pandemic (and to reduce the number of “missed” practices due to back pain) we have started “Yoga for Rowers”, A Zoom class specifically for rowers every Tuesday evening at 6 PM EST. By now it is joined by rowers from coast to coast. It is free to participate. You and all your members are more than welcome to join!!! Details can be found here: https://www.chaosrowing.org/yoga-for-rowers On March 20th, at 3 PM EST we do a special Zoom workshop on “Hip & Back Exercises: Prevent/reduce pain and improve your stroke!”. Again, it is free to join. Details and registration here: https://www.chaosrowing.org/hip-back-workshop We hope you and your members join. The more the merrier! Again: Thank you very much for inviting us to your group! Regards Felix Muhlebach Captain, CHaOS Rowing, the masters program of RowNC

Rio Saldo Rowing Camp 2
Hello Yankee Friends, I was really missing the water this winter, so I booked a trip to a clinic last week in Tempe, AZ at Rio Salado http://www.rowrio.org/ The coaches were fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to book something next winter. Lesleh Wright was the main coach, she runs clinics all over the world, SteeringUwright.com is her website. I will have to say that although the weather is better (not last week though!) our little stretch of the CT river is heaven compared to rowing in canals in the 'city' See you on the river soon!! Mike

Annual meeting scheduled for March 28, 2-4 PM 2
It's time for our annual meeting. I know you're all eager to get on the water after pandemic isolation. And the fact that we don't (yet) have excessive river flows and do have (at least temporarily) very warm days makes the urge to row nearly overwhelming. We won't discuss the water temperature. Last year we started the season on May 8. The meeting will be via Zoom on Sunday March 28, 2 PM. We will try to finish the business meeting promptly. I will then leave the Zoom call open until 4 PM or everyone has left; this will be your opportunity to swap lies with your fellow off-the-water rowers. Winter news: On a sunny but cold day, February 26, our newly-acquired midweight Fluid double was delivered to the boathouse (see picture). Craig and the equipment committee will work on checking it out and commissioning it. Finance report: Leslie Smith BR: Retain last year's fees Membership: $ 490 Rack: $ 415 2. Elect board of directors BR: Robin Barber has asked to step down Moshe (Moi) Wurgaft has agreed to be nominated Full slate: Ernie Alleva, Jaime Caron, Jenn Ferree, Andy Larkin, Craig Schiff, Leslie Smith, Bob Sproull, Anne Teschner, David Wick, Moshe Wurgaft 3. Reservation system Although the Board has a recommendation, it was not unanimous and discussion at the annual meeting will be invited. BR: start season with same system we ended with (times adjusted relative to sunrise) It may be possible to relax the system as the season progresses 8. Possible boathouse expansion. Since we're completely out of rack space, there have been discussions about various ways to expand our space. The most likely is to rent the "east aisle," a section of the building that abuts our current space to the east. The space would need only modest renovation to be able to house 10 additional singles; this is work that could be done by the club. Gary Pellisier, the owner of the Sportsman's Marina, has expressed interest in additional "sprucing up," including a new door and ramp for the east aisle and repainting the boathouse exterior. All of this is contingent on more investigation and planning and also on negotiating acceptable lease adjustments with Gary. A small Board committee will be working on this. They will solicit comments and suggestions from all members. In order to accommodate the current rack waiting list (3 boats), we are also discussing with Gary placing a rack outdoors. (I own a fine rack and would be happy to have YRC use it). Of course, not all boat owners will be willing to rack their boats outdoors. But it would be nice to accommodate all rack needs at the beginning of the season, even if the east aisle plan is moving ahead; our season may open in about a month, and it's unlikely that the east aisle would be ready in time. 8. Other business, including discussion of "wish li

YRC: getting ready for the rowing season 6
I'm sure everyone's ready to be on the water, but the water isn't ready: today, flow is 47,000 cubic feet per second (20,000 is the club limit), and the temperature is 41F. Not safe.... Early May is a typical opening date.... The waiver and membership form for 2021 are now available: http://galleryofreaders.org/yankeerowing/membership/ Please plan to sign up before you row. The annual membership meeting was held by Zoom yesterday, attended by 22 members. Here's a summary of what transpired: Fees remain unchanged: $ 490 membership, $415 rack space. Board of directors: Ernie Alleva, Jaime Caron, Jenn Ferree, Andy Larkin, Craig Schiff, Leslie Smith, Bob Sproull, Anne Teschner, David Wick, Moshe Wurgaft Officers: president: Bob Sproull; vice president: Jenn Ferree treasurer: Leslie Smith; secretary: Jaime Caron Equipment committee: Ernie, Craig, Anne COVID precautions: We will begin this season with the same procedures in place at the end of last season. We may be able to relax them as the season unfolds. Jenn will be organizing spring cleanup crews to work in small groups, like last year. Reservations: When the club opens for rowing, we will start out using the reservation system for club boats that was in place at the end of last year. The new 2x will be subject to reservation. Details will be sent out by email when the club opens. Temporary outside rack: There are 3 people on the waiting list for rack space. It is very likely we can provide rack space for 4 boats outside when the club opens. (If you are willing to rack your boat outside at a reduced rack fee, please contact me.) We are also exploring adding inside space to the boathouse (the "east aisle" adjacent to our current space) that would provide indoor rack space. This plan may not work out, and even if it does, the racks won't be ready when the season opens. ?tes vous prêts? Bob
