Re: Yamaha CS80 FOR SALE

I'm asking 18k. I would be willing to do a synth/ cash deal. I am also willing to drive halfway across the US to meet. I'm looking for a DSI Prophet 08. So if anyone has one they would like to throw in, I can work with it. I'm open to offers. Check out the Asheville NC craigslist for photos and more details.

Yamaha CS80 FOR SALE

Well, I just got the CS80 and now I have to sell it due to lawyer fees. I figured I would post it here first. I'm having my engineer friend go through it to tune it up and adjust everything. I'm going to have him track down the volume issue and repair it before it leaves. I feel that the volume issue is only a minor problem. If anyone here would like to contact me use my gmail address charleshowes23

I prefer not to ship it, and will drive halfway across the country to meet. We can work out the details. I am also not going to put it on eBay.

Volume issue

Hello,
I'm having an issue with my CS80. The harpsichord presets are both very low in volume. On every 8th key press the note is louder. Same with a few other presets. Do I have a bunch of bad VCA chips?

Hi , I am pretty sure that was my next move after my backwards fail.... swapping from 2 to one, and it did not work in mboard 1 but did when returned to 2... I may have taken out some other component because traces look ok...

that's good... then I 'd first do a swap from another voice of your synth, since you already have confirmation of those that still work.
Then, you'll know if buying another chip will for sure fix it.

by the way , it's better to declare less than 50usd and usps .
This might be problematic. I recently picked up a parcel at the customs with IG00151s from Doug. The officer asked me to open the parcel and wanted to see the content. He took a look at the chips, and his only question (with a smile) was: "For a monophonic or a polyphonic CS?" He knew the real prices without having a look at the bill....

Ok, that is custom Munich, not 20. Arrondissement. ;-)

I have the rank "11" chips that were the most stable/least amount of tuning drift. I can include the diode if you like...

I did the sensory checks, lol , no unusual smells, nothing hot compared to adjacent boards no visible broken or burned traces ,? mad about my gaff with the one chip from my spare cards though, and I still think reverse engineering to go from the stable chip to original may be required...

Hi to Laurie laurie,

?I have a way to check voice cards , as well as the propietary chips without allowing excess current to pass through anything.
It's just an idea, but if you wanted to send a card to check , that's a possibility. I'm in LA, and am the guy currently running the unison mod for diy'ers you might have seen. If nothing is truly damaged, or if you want, I can also repair whatever is wrong, using your spare parts if you prefer. Anyway, without me doing that, you probably don't want to continue slapping parts in the card until you know more about the failure. Have you done the usual sensory checks, i.e. test for hot parts, smell, etc ? Nothing visually obvious or fatigued ?

Re: Hi / group activity

Since you say it affects the other banks voice, that is NOT a recommended, safe method.
?You risk doing some degree of damage. Granted, you could get lucky, but..... blind chip swapping isn't the scientific method.

Re: Mono Modification

Hi Florian,

I'd need it for the adjustment procedure. I would add a switch to the
gate lines, so I could deactivate all voices but one (or some voices).
Your method may still work for the pitch adjustment, but for setting the
envelope times, I really have to have a synchronous start of the two
voices I am comparing.
Aha, I see, sorry - I thought you were referring to pitch adjustment
when you said tuning.

Agreed, for envelope time adjustment my method would be of no use. But
how about simply pressing four keys at the same time, trigging all the
envelopes at the same time? (-:

/mr - wouldn't want my CS-50 voices more closely calibrated than that ;-)
