Re: YAAC not rendering water contained by shoreline

It's still not perfect, but in YAAC build #148, I improved the OpenStreetMap importer to support the coastline shapefiles. Why it's still not working perfectly, I'm not entirely sure, but it's an improvement. At least most ocean shorelines will now show a water blue on the map with the new way type "Sea".

Re: next beta build#148 of YAAC, created 2020-Mar-26

Well, if you want to connect to the APRS-IS backbone using SSL (and only if using SSL), you need the LotW certificate and key (because the ARRL's Certificate Authority is currently the only recognized CA for APRS-IS-over-SSL, to ensure the certificate holder is also an amateur radio licensee). But you can still connect using the old passcode interface (which does not require an SSL certificate, just the completely compromised passcode).

All I did regarding APRS-IS in this build was to fix the SSL interface to recognize newer server-side certificates and allow use of encrypted connections if someone upgraded the SSL/TLS library on the APRS-IS Tier 2 gateway and didn't remember to re-enable the NULL (non-encrypting) cipher (since non-encrypted connections by definition would be considered insecure by the IT industry, and so this cipher is disabled by default). Plus I allowed people to look at their certificate and see if it was expired, and better reported the error for expired server-side certificates (i.e., non-updated Tier 2 servers).

Hi Andrew.

After a long wait, the next build is out. The SSL interface to APRS-IS

Hi Andrew

attached you can find some of the txt file in the directory.

I can imagine how hard is to find out a way to process (?) this data. Some of the txt file have only one message , other? two or more.

Hope you will find the time to work on it, always with the utmost appreciation for your commitment.

just as info there is a server in europe here:

Re: last version-outernet

I was afraid that would happen. Could you send me one of those .txt files you showed me in the web directory listing, to make sure the contents still have the same format? It's going to be ugly figuring out which file to read, with them arbitrarily naming them with timestamps that don't have a regular spacing.

I just tested the outernet option in the program , sad to say still not
work with the new othernet data format.

In the photo you can see what I get calling directly the messages page

Hi, Aaron.

Took a while to figure this out.

I think the reason for your problem is that your Pocket Packet didn't send a position beacon through the I-gate before it started text messaging. As such, the APRS-IS didn't know which I-gates to send the reply through.

Did you wait for it to beacon when you were using other I-gate apps than YAAC?

Hello,

I've been really impressed with YAAC. I have set up a Rpi3 with TNC-PI2 connected to a yeasu 2980R 2m rig.? I originally started with a windows 7 machine running APRS IS/32 which worked great for last couple of months but I wanted something more portable that I can put at a repeater site my buddy has space in so I moved to the TNCPI.? I set up APRX first but it lacks good message management and a basic GUI and I really want to use YAAC.? Which brings me to my one problem:

I can't seem to get IS messages back out over RF despite having a Supplemental IF filter set and a filter set on my IS port.? On the other apps I had no problem testing sending from my APRS client on a phone / tablet out to my HT over IS > RF and back again from HT to Phone from RF > IS.? Both RF and IS igating are configured.? I'm assuming it's something to do with the filter OR my digipeat path settings but at this point I'm so turned around I can't get what was working quite easily on my last two configurations to work with this.

Could someone check out my configs and let me know what I'm missing?

My callsign SSID assignments are as follows:
AG7GK-2 is the Igate / Digipeaters (RF AND APRS-IS CONNECTED)
AG7GK-7 is my HT, a yaesu FT2D
AG7GK-8 is my Iphone / Ipad (depending on which is connected and on) connected to APRS-IS

Main expert General config screen(don't see any relevant settings):

Note: Whenver I set a supplemental Tx-Igate filter it does not "store" in this field, I can't tell if it's working or if it is getting overriden by the APRS-IS port filter.? At this time i set that filter to m/120, or 120km range from my beacon location.

You will need to configure your AGWPE or KISS port connection to DireWolf to support raw AX.25 packets instead of APRS. Presumably, these BB stations are also not on the standard APRS frequency as well (another reason to disable APRS on the port you use to try to connect to connected-mode packet stations, so you don't clutter the channel with APRS packets).

Once you are configured correctly, there is a "Connect to PBBS" choice on the "Message" menu that you would use to initiate connections. If you want keyboard-to-keyboard chats and want others to be able to connect to you, go to File->Configure->Expert Mode, and on the Preferences tab, check the "Accept inbound AX.25 connected-mode requests" checkbox. In that case, disable your APRS beacon and use your Status message to do your connected-mode beaconing so other connected-mode users can find you.

Note that YAAC is not optimized for this sort of thing. It was intended to be an APRS client, not a packet chat client or PBBS client. And the Chat option on the "Message" menu is not connected-mode packet chat; it does it by APRS text messaging, and just uses a instant messaging style window to keep the text messages from one remote station separated from all the other ones you would see in the View->Messages->Raw Messages window.

Hope this helps.

Unless things have changed, you can send (not receive!) email from an APRS client by sending a message to EMAIL-2, with a message consisting of the email address, a space, and the message text.? Keep it short (single packet!), and don't expect a reply (it's one direction).? But it worked for me last time I tried it.? Came in really handy some years ago when my wife and I were on a vacation and found ourselves at a beautiful B&B on the coast in the middle of a cell phone black hole.? No bars (the RF kind).?? But APRS worked, and we were able to let our kids know that we arrived safely and would call them the next day.? I did this from the front panel of my Kenwood TH-D7AG, which was a thousand button presses.? I expect you can do the same in seconds from YAAC simply by sending a message and typing it out.

You can also send an SMS message to a phone with the SMS Gateway.? Message to SMSGTE, with the text being an "@" followed by the phone number (including area code, numbers only), a space, and the message.? This one is bi-directional, though the initial message must come from the Ham station.

The issue with WLNK-1 is that a few years ago they implemented a security handshake (password verification exchange) as part of the connection sequence.? My compliments to whoever came up with the idea; it's a very creative way to do a reasonably secure handshake over an unencrypted link.? It can be done by hand (I've done it), but the timeout is rather short, so it's fussy to do typing from a keyboard-based client, and essentially impossible from an HT.? If Andrew's code hasn't been updated do that handshake, it won't work.
