Re: Yacc won't transmit with Kenwood TM-D710

Well, there are a couple of possibilities.

1. Kenwood radios require RS232 modem control signals (DTR, DSR, etc.). However, in cheap USB-to-serial adapters, these are often omitted as excess circuitry. You may want to get an RS232 line monitor to connect between your adapter and the Kenwood PG-5H cable to confirm the DTR and RTS signals are coming out of your adapter. The below link shows an inexpensive device that I have found to work well:

2. What port type are you using in YAAC to talk to the Kenwood, and what mode is your D710 in (APRS or PACKET)? The Kenwood port type in YAAC corresponds to the APRS mode in the D710, which DOES NOT permit transmitting from an external computer (only from the D710 control head itself). The Serial_TNC port type in YAAC corresponds to the PACKET mode of the D710, which means you lose the pretty APRS packet display in the D710 and all of its beaconing abilities, but gain the ability to transmit from the computer (assuming you enabled transmitting in the Serial_TNC configuration panel). YAAC also has a Radio View window which provides most of the display information of the D710 control head.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [yaac-users] Yacc won't transmit with Kenwood TM-D710

I'm trying to run Yacc on Windows 10 with a Kenwood TM-D710. I am using a USB to serial port. I can receive fine, but it won't transmit beacons or messages. Any suggestions?

Thanks.
