Re: Battery will not charge
Like a previous poster I've lost any faith I had in Xiegu because of this radio. I too have charging issues. After a full charge cycle the radio will only receive for about thirty minutes before the battery voltage drops so low it turns off. Even from a full charge the radio will not transmit due to excessive voltage sag. I've checked the cells and one of them has failed and refuses to hold a charge.
I contacted Radioddity EU and they suggested I look on Aliexpress. When I questioned this they replied that because I didn't purchase the radio from them they would not offer any support. I contacted Xiegu and received an auto reply and nothing more. I also contacted the UK importer and they didn't even reply. In all three instances I emphasised that I wasn't after a freebie and that I was prepared to pay for a full battery assembly (two cells, BMS board, and rear panel). My radio uses the second version of the Battery assembly. This is where the two cells are stacked lengthways on the backplate, wrapped in blue hestdhrink, and fixed directly to the BMS board i.e the cells are not attached by wires and don't have there own little protection circuits as the earlier version did. Re: Are There Any Improvements in Newer Production X6100s?
I do know that the G90 received an update a year or two after its introduction due a need to change one of the microprocessors used. This also caused a need for a minor change in the firmware from that point forward. I know of no production changes for the X6100 but it seems there well could be because of various reasons. My sense is that Xiegu is a small company that probably can react quickly to changes needed. Also, they seem to have customer support as a low priority such that changes that impact customers either plus or minus is perhaps a minor consideration unlike the big three (or is it two !!) producers.?

Re: Are There Any Improvements in Newer Production X6100s?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýTheir way of product improvement seems to be a new model ? Such as the X6200 (due in the next 3-6 months as ham shops are taking deposits) ? Main improvement is a detachable battery pack from the specs they are showing ? Peter M0PWX ? _._,_._,_ ? |
Re: Are There Any Improvements in Newer Production X6100s?
IMHO, I think they made production line changes with part quality. I bought my x6100 Oct. of 2024. No problems with the battery or charging. I always remember to turn off charging when running external battery. I don't do CW so that's a mute point.
It does everything I want it to do. From Ohio on 5 watts, Hawaii, Bulgaria, Finland with compliments on clarity of modulation.
Hope you can resolve your problem.

Steve

Mark, I haven't changed the suspected bad part in mine yet but when I do I'll contact you with the results. 73 Frank AA5IT On Mon, Feb 19, 2024 at 2:14?PM Mark WA0ZIG <wa0zig@...> wrote: It appears that I am the latest victim of the x6100 battery charging issue -- all of sudden the battery refuses to charge, even with the charger on, the radio off and powered by the AC adapter overnight. Just so you know,,,,? Mine won't charge either. The battery charger circuit is broken. I suspect it's the FET that the controller switches but I haven't taken the time to troubleshoot it yet. I've lost enough respect for the radio for it's half-baked design that I'm really not interested in it at the moment. But, you might have the same problem. I'll tell you it was caused from one of my batteries failed and the circuit isn't built to handle problems like that, apparently. 73 Frank On Tue, Feb 20, 2024 at 2:37?PM Lou <lhm@...> wrote:

Michael,
Same thing just happened here and i'm using V.19 firmware and same xiegu FW. Issue resolved when i disconnected external power, removed the sd card completely, waited a few minutes and tried again after reinserting? sd card and connecting external power source. All is good for time being. -- 72's de k8zf, randy |
Re: Battery will not charge
Is the battery-management logic under the control of firmware?? I.e., if I load and use Oleg's firmware, should I expect different charging behavior from default Xiegu? Lou KC1PKD On Feb 20, 2024 14:56, "Ron Wright via groups.io" <lt_wright_flg@...> wrote:

Re: Battery will not charge
Mark, WA0ZIG ?I suggest you need to determine if the charging circuit is working.? You need to use an external 12V source with a current meter between this source and the X6100.? I see about 750ma with battery charging and rig off, little over 1A with both on and in rcv mode. Your problem might be the battery, but also could be the charging circuit.? Replacing the battery if charging circuit is bad will not solve the issue. I use an inline voltage/current meter when operating and when charging the battery.? I like monitoring my power sources.? You can get a good inline meter on Amazon for $18.? Here is same with power poles.? I have it, does great, reads voltage, current AHr and more.

I think you misunderstanding.. The user interface is at 1.1.7 can be used with the baseband firmware of 1.1.6 and 99% of things work. There are 2 sides to a firmware update, the User interface and the radio base firmware.?
If you flash the radio with 1.1.6 first, then INSERT ONLY the 1.1.7 SD card, the User interface will update to 1.1.7 (fixing some issues with WFSERVER and other things) "and" the base band firmware will remain at 1.1.6 (stable CAT control and CW decoder)... The 1.1.7 base band firmware won't install unless you got into radio settings and ask it to. The 1.1.7 base band break CAT control but fixed battery charging according to Oleg R1CBU. The batter voltage monitoring on 1.1.7 is reported to be finally correct - at the expense of CAT control. According to FT8CN developer of the FT8 app, Xeigu told him a new firmware is arriving in Springtime ?that will finally fix the bluetooth audio routing issues. n |
CW mode - overshoot in pwr at first symbol
Dear group members,
have found an issue concerning the first symbol sent at the beginning of cw transmit. Getting an pwr overshoot independent of configured pwr 0.1 - 5W in bat. mode and the same with external pwr 0.1 - 10W. See attached pics. A second observed issue occurred during changing mode from cw to ssb and back to cw. After such mode change every time the first symbol get a bad shape. See second part of pics. Could you please check and verify my observation. Used an 30dB att and a SDS1104 DSO with 50 ohm termination! The FW Version of the X6100 is listed below. many thanks for your effort Markus PS.: Please take into consideration, that the provided links at pixshare are only valid for the next three months from today (20th Feb. 2024) |

Ups! I sent my reply using a phone. Didn't realize it had changed size of text when I copied the info from the web page. I just realized this morning, when reading Dido's response. Again, sorry for that. Better to respond using a proper computer and not a phone. Lesson learnt for me! I have nothing to do with the seller or manufacturer. I simply bought it from Amazon. Thank you Dido. Will take a look at the HF-Mag -Magnetic Ground Plane. I have been only using 4 - 10 meter long wires as ground plane.
