¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Oleg,Thank you for your work with the X6100. Your desire to give blind hams access to this radio has opened opportunities to several blind hams that I know of and I look forward to trying this latest version. Several of us are already waiting to hear about the new transceiver too.? I am sure we will keep in touch. All the best. On 29 Feb 2024, at 20:56, Oleg - R1CBU <belousov.oleg@...> wrote: Hello! ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Oleg can we say thank you for your skill and hard work . It has been a great improvement of what is potentially a good radio and one I enjoy . It¡¯s sad that xiegu don¡¯t interact more and have a fully open system. I look forward to more detail on your radio.Simon G8HAM On 29 Feb 2024, at 21:49, Lisa WO?L <lr7521061@...> wrote:

Re: Battery will not charge
Randy My battery has not failed so when it does that what I would do¡. But the big part of the Charging Circuit is the battery management board next to the battery. ?It is designed to protect you from a battery failure and because you can¡¯t charge you battery¡ your battery failed. Generally usually the management system may be reactivated once you fix why the battery failed in the first place. |
Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
Yes of course experiments are the base of any ham operator but as starting point you can use the wonderful advises of Palomar¡¯s engineers. Check their website and their presentations files given during many hamfests.? honestly they helps me to understand things more precisely. Thanks for that.? 73, Ben.? |
Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
Tuning a single random piece of wire without a matching unit is possible, but just because it tunes, doesn't mean anyone can hear you. Using an antenna as close to resonant is pretty important for success with a qrp rig. The 6100 is susceptible to rf interference, common mode current much more than other radios. It is your radio, and the great thing about the hobby is we can all experiment and use our experience to guide ourselves. Grab a spool of wire, head out and see how it goes.
I always get a kick out of people comparing equipment to a radio that costs half or a third as much as the things they are comparing to. Compare the products that cost the same as the X6100. Oh wait, they don't make anything that competes in the price range. Rant off. |
Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
For End Fed Wire might look at DXEngineering.? They have some good notes on the antenna and wire lengths.

Your best bet would be an 84 to 86 foot wire with a 17 foot elevated counterpoise.? There may be shorter lengths that will work but with the X6100 tuner but you are pretty much guaranteed success with this length.? Michael VE3WMB? |

Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
I built a small 9:1 balun with an inexpensive toroid and spare wire. I paired it with a 41-foot random wire and 17-foot counterpoise. My x6100 tunes that antenna pretty easily from 10m to 80m and even 160m. I'll probably try it with the next longer wire soon to see the difference in performance.? Greetings Dennis --
I think the crux of the issue is your desire to avoid a balun.? As you probably know most folks use a 9:1 balun with a random wire antenna;? I think the prior responses provide adequate data for that. But since few people do use a balun, getting no-balun info may be a challenge. You could probably go out and give it a try and have your answer in a couple hours;? string a long wire up in a tree and trim the length until you get to the limits of the tuner. But I am curious...? why do? you want to avoid the balun?? At the X6100 power levels 9:1 baluns are small, light and affordable, so it seems like the best approach to most operators.? So I'm curious about your situation. -Tom N6QDI |
Re: CAN you MAINTAIN a X6100 WiFi Connection?
Hmmm. My access point is about 6' away, and delivers a strong signal. DHCP doesn't seem to work in the 6100 for WAN connections, so it's turned off. It's set for a static IP that's valid on my network (and it's been reserved in the network!)
The WAN is actually turning?off--the icon on the screen goes away. Thanks for your thoughts, Paul -- AI7JR |
Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
The capability of the radio's antenna tuner is at the center of this question. Given that those specs are not published anywhere I asked the asked the using public what they've been able to successfully use.
I own a number of Xiegu products. Multiple G90's, X6100's, XP125A & B. None have comparable auto-antenna tuner performance. The G90 is superior to the X6100, and neither of the amps comes close to those of the radios. Though it is claimed that the g90 & X6100 will tune anything hooked to them, they will not! In fact, their tuners are rather dismal when compared to that of any military, or commercial, HF backpack radio. Or even some external auto-tuners from SGC, or Elecraft, etc. I have logged the tuning range of the most common Ham type auto-tuners from MFJ and LDG. The best of them will only tune a load from about 6-1000 ohms. This excludes the rather short antennas we like for portable use. Commercial tuners from SGC, SEA, Icom, can easily radiate an antenna a short as 23ft on 160 meters. I dont expect this kind of performance from a Xiegu, but it would be very nice nice to know just how short a wire I could throw in a go-bag and radio could load up on the lowest practical frequency(75 meters). Re: Best Random Wire Length for 75-10 Meters?
You ask a simple question, you get all sorts of answers that seldom have anything to do with that question. It is very refreshing to get one that does. Thanks!
I'm assuming, given the length of your wire that your operating 40 meters and up? 60 meters maybe, but I dont think the Xiegu will tune the low impedance that would be? KB0SFP |
