I think you misunderstanding.. The user interface is at 1.1.7 can be used with the baseband firmware of 1.1.6 and 99% of things work. There are 2 sides to a firmware update, the User interface and the radio base firmware.?

If you flash the radio with 1.1.6 first, then INSERT ONLY the 1.1.7 SD card, the User interface will update to 1.1.7 (fixing some issues with WFSERVER and other things) "and" the base band firmware will remain at 1.1.6 (stable CAT control and CW decoder)...

The 1.1.7 base band firmware won't install unless you got into radio settings and ask it to.

The 1.1.7 base band break CAT control but fixed battery charging according to Oleg R1CBU. The batter voltage monitoring on 1.1.7 is reported to be finally correct - at the expense of CAT control.

According to FT8CN developer of the FT8 app, Xeigu told him a new firmware is arriving in Springtime ?that will finally fix the bluetooth audio routing issues.

Dear group members,

have found an issue concerning the first symbol sent at the beginning of cw transmit.
Getting an pwr overshoot independent of configured pwr 0.1 - 5W in bat. mode and
the same with external pwr 0.1 - 10W.

See attached pics.








A second observed issue occurred during changing mode from cw to ssb and back
to cw. After such mode change every time the first symbol get a bad shape.

Could you please check and verify my observation.
Used an 30dB att and a SDS1104 DSO with 50 ohm termination!

It appears that I am the latest victim of the x6100 battery charging issue -- all of sudden the battery refuses to charge, even with the charger on, the radio off and powered by the AC adapter overnight. I have done all the obvious -- reloaded the latest software, checked the output voltage of the AC adapter, etc.? The green LED flashes indicating that charging is underway, but when the radio is booted the next morning, the battery icon is still all red, and the lightning bolt is on, indicating that the charging cycle was in process, but obviously not working.? I emailed support at Radioddity, and "Nora" replied to my message suggesting that I needed to charge the battery, and if this did not work, to replace the battery. No further suggestions were forthcoming.

Two questions for the group:

1. Has anyone discovered a fix for this?
2. Is there a Xiegu (not Radioddity) tech support location here in the U.S.? If so, does anyone have contact info for it?

I had trouble getting CAT control to work with the stock firmware, but with the R1CBU firmware it "just works".? I don't even bother using the stock firmware anymore, and just use R1CBU all the time now.

In the it‘s quite simple, as it runs from as card, test it and after this your favorite firmware?

For me and my poor eyesight it's the readable power level and ALC (shown in the usual format, 0 being none). Of course there are other things, but that is a huge plus.

Well, I think, it has to do something with like /dislike the usage. I for myself don‘t like the r1cbu look and feel and like very much the original firmware

The important thing to realize about the R1CBU firmware is that you're NOT CHANGING anything on the radio itself. There's no commitment and nothing you can screw up on the radio. It's harmless and risk-free. You're not "hacking" into anything. You're just putting in a little SD card that the radio will use while it's inserted, Eject the card and you're back to normal.

• You copy the R1CBU firmware to an SD card. (You only have to do this once)
• You "click" the SD card into the little slot on the side of the X6100.
• When you turn the X6100 power on, the radio will detect there's an SD card inserted, and temporarily use the firmware on the card instead of the firmware built into the radio.
• Once the radio is fully started, the screen will look different, but mostly things are pretty similar. R1CBU just implements some of the features a little differently.
• When I am searching around on the bands for SSB contacts, I love that R1CBU?shows me the ham radio bands as brackets right on the screen. With the normal display, I often overshoot with my VFO wheel. Then I realize I'm wasting my time on a frequency I can't use.
• When I'm not twiddling around on SSB, however, I eject the little SD card and turn on the radio with that slot empty again.
• The radio comes up with the regular Xiegu screen that it always had. Nothing has changed. It's like it never happened.
• It's quick and easy to only insert the card when you want some feature(s) you like from the R1CBU firmware.

It's fun to try it out and see what features you like, and to have the SD card handy if you find one feature you like on it, but otherwise want to use the normal firmware.

The only downside of the whole thing is that creating that "bootable" SD is a hassle. That's not the fault of R1CBU, it's just the was SD cards work if you want to make them bootable. You only have to create the SD card once. Thereafter, you just plug it into the side only when you want to. (Of course, if a new version of R1CBU comes out, and only if you really want the new version, then you'll have to go through the hassle of writing the new version to your SD card again)

If making a bootable SD card is too technical for you, ask the 14-year old nerd in your family to do it for you. It's a one-time activity. They'll probably find what you're doing on ham radio pretty cool and you'll score some 'cred with them.

are there any important advantages to using 3rd party firmware?
i'm not a softwaare guru and have no interest in attempting to hack into radio .

You're on 1.1.6, which Xiegu says is ?the latest "stable version" of the X6100 "App"?Xiegu's web site says the following about the newer version 1.1.7 of the X6100's app:

NOTICE: Consider this version experimental! For normal use we recommend version 1.1.6.

SDR rigs are more computers than radios. In fact the X6100 is a Linux computer.?I've been?in the computer software development industry for 35 years. We always recommend installing the latest stable version of software for a "production" system a customer is running their business on, and then install the newer releases on a test server. These businesses hold back a bit, in case there's something terrible that might cause a patch to be withdrawn or a bug introduced in a module that they regularly use.

However, a home user isn't running a "production system" for a business. I think most of us are eager for new (and long promised) functionality. Frankly, a new version will quickly become the norm, and the expected/only supported version, soon enough. There's no stopping the incoming wave, or even treading water. It's a running to just stand still world now. Further, if your radio is connected to the Internet, and they specifically release a security patch, you want to install it right away. Hackers are wiley?creatures. I always want to have the very latest toys to play with, and I'm hardly running a "production system." So I run pre-release "beta" versions on all my devices. Ham radio is a hobby.

You really have to read the release notes, and see what the forums (like this one) say. The release notes are generally short. In this case 1.1.6 was a biggie, as you can see from the notes. It introduced?Additional CI-V commands,?Bluetooth Serial Port Profile, many display updates and new functionality. Everyone should install 1.1.6.

Reading the release notes for the newer 1.1.7, however, you can see that it only adds WF Server, which is only useful if you want to access your radio with the computer-based WFView over a network, or remotely control it your radio from the Internet (and then only when you have it well secured). Most people don't need WF Server, and since Xiegu specifically calls 1.1.7 "experimental" and recommends 1.1.6. I'm guessing they'll roll WFView into 1.1.8 when it comes out. If you were on the (withdrawn) Aug 7, 2023 version, and you use digital modes, then you really need to update, since it disabled CAT control!

It's a little weird that Radioddity is shipping/pre-installing version 1.1.7, that Xiegu says is "experimental." Perhaps the version on Xiegu's web site is still the older one that disabled CAT control. I don't know. If you want to upgrade your firmware, I would definetly choose the Radioddity download site instead of the Xiegu one. My guess is that the 1.1.7 on Radioddity's site is fine now. But you still don't need it if you don't plan to use WF View or do remote control.
