Re: FLdigi won't install - ASUS laptop running Win 11
For anyone having this issue, Tobias provided a solution in another thread: use a tool like 7zip to extract the contents of the executable, then run the "actual" installer for FLdigi.
?
I did the above, and confirmed the software correctly controls the radio, just as it does on my Linux-based RPi.
?
FWIW, I had no oddball antivirus software running, and the checksum for the installer was correct so the file hadn't been altered/tampered with.
?
What a bizarre issue - just glad to have it solved and hope the thread is useful to anyone else who stumbles on it down the road. |

Hello Chris, Great that at least sometimes the unconventional workaround offers a solution. Enjoy and thanks for the feedback! 73s Tobias .-.-. Am Donnerstag, 17. Re: FLdigi won't install - ASUS laptop running Win 11
Hello Chris, Please consider the alternate way described below. Good luck! 73s SWL Tobias .-.-. Am Montag, 16. September 2024 um 14:59:44 MESZ hat <tsquare123@...> Folgendes geschrieben: Bill, Just like Rich wrote, if setup doesn't run as expected (and provided you have downloaded the correct FLdigi setup file!) it may make more sense to extract (unzip) it directly into the new folder of your choice. Then you can: 1. First verify that the setup file is complete. 2. See exactly what you put where. 3. Then run the fldigi.exe from your (new) folder and see what happens. Normally, you should be OK now. Please take a look at the attached screenshot: If you don't have/use it already, I highly recommend to download the lightweight, versatile and free 7zip archive manager from 'www.7-zip.org'. With it, you can open the setup file just like an ordinary zip file, which is what I show in the attached screenshot. Either drag the 'fldigi...setup.exe' onto '7zFM.exe' (see below) or, if you have setup 7zip this way, use the context menu (or right click) in the Explorer and then, with your FLdigi setup file selected, choose 7zip > Open archive. In 7zip, once you have the setup file opened, first click the 'test' icon to see whether the archive as such is OK. This is *not* a malw./vir. check (!), it simply tests the archive data integrity. 7zip may or may not check and find issues in the file while opening it, so this extra check is useful. The 7zip File Manager (7zFM.exe) can be setup to display 2 windows side-by-side, as shown here. There simply select all the program files and folders contained in the setup file and (if you have entered the path of the target folder on the right side, as shown here), click the 'Copy' icon and the files are extracted into your chosen folder. Alternatively, you may also drag the selection into the right window or into a separate explorer window showing the target folder. Then run FLdigi as usual and all should work as expected. From this point onward, the 7zip window is no longer needed. Notes: 1. If all looked OK so far but the FLdigi program window still does not open, consult the Windows 'Task Manager' (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and look for fldigi.exe in the 'Process' tab. If it is visible there (possibly multiple times: sort the list it by name clicking the respective header!), close all these previous instances and run FLdigi from your new folder again. 2. If FLdigi still won't open, you may try and locate existing data and settings from an (old) installation, usually in 'C:\Users\<UserName>\fldigi.files'. If this folder exists, close all fldigi instances (as described in 1.) and rename the 'fldigi.files' folder into something else, e.g. '_BACKUP_fldigi.files' (you may wish to keep it in case you still have useful data there). Then run Fldigi again - now there's no reason why it should fail. FLdigi will recreate the 'fldigi.files' folder with default values. Then copy what you still need from the _BACKUP_ into the new fldigi.files folder and you're all set. Once complete, you can remove the _BACKUP_ folder. If this method did not work either, I'm afraid I don't have an explanation or advice. 3. Should you wonder, no, not every app ('exe') can be opened this way as an archive. But the fldigi setup for Windows is compatible with this operation. Hope this helps. Good luck! And please let us know whether (and if so, how) you were successful. 73s Tobias .-.-. Am Montag, 16. Did you check your virus program to see if it's blocking it???? Maybe disable during install.? And I do not install in program files folders sent by ve3wej on samsung s21+ On Wed, Oct 16, 2024, 11:01?a.m. VA3CJO - Chris "CJ" via <va3cjo=[email protected]> wrote:

Do NOT install as admin.? Uninstall and be sure to delete the "\program files\fldigi-x.x.x" directory before reinstalling.

Then rename \users\[username]\fldigi.files\fldigi.prefs and see if it will start. If that works email the fldigi.prefs file so perhaps Dave can see why it doesn't work and maybe provide a fix for that. Hi David,
?
Thank you for your ongoing efforts!
?
I little observation since updating to this version. The waterfall colour scheme seems no longer to be honoured after changing it from default, closing and re-launching fldigi. The correct pallete is opened on launch but the colour scheme remains the default one.
In the example below blue1.pal is saved in the config and displays/renders correctly at the time of configuring but on restarting Fldigi, blue1.pal is loaded but the palette is not blue1.pal ?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Re: Just wondering if I could have two separate installs of Fldigi on same computer and same hard drive?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou do not and that is not the recommended installation.? You install a single copy of fldigi, flrig, etc.? Then you create a desktop launch icon with the properties set to allow each to run an instance of fldigi, flrig, etc. with a unique set of configuration files. The installation of fldigi creates a desktop icon.? Right click on the icon and open the properties dialog. This screen shot shows a launch icon
configured to use the folder "C:\Users\w1hkj\icom7300.fldigi" to
hold all of the configuration files associated with that
transceiver.? I also run a Yaesu FL-710, a QMX+, an FDM-DUO, and a
Flex 1500.? All have separate launch icons configured for the
specific transceiver.? If? you update the software, you only need
to reinstall a single copy of the application.
During the software install you can elect to install to something other than the default folder.? Use a generic folder name for the application binary and you will never have to touch the launch icon after a software update. 73, David, W1HKJ fldigi developer On 10/15/24 17:13, KG5KS wrote:

Copy the shortcut and modify the properties to add a switch to the command line.

Re: Just wondering if I could have two separate installs of Fldigi on same computer and same hard drive?
I do this all the time, but I use the standalone config, not the installed versions of the programs. Both ways are described in the Help docs. Note that having multiple installations is not the same thing as running copies of the programs. The latter needs much attention to specifics that have been covered on this list. But simply having multiple 'installation', either standalone or installed with separate config dirs, works fine.

Re: Just wondering if I could have two separate installs of Fldigi on same computer and same hard drive?
Yes. It¡¯s a standard topic in the Help. I have two radically different radios, an Icom 735 and a Yaesu 991A. I use the former with a Rig Blaster. I have two separate copies of both FLDIGI and FLRIG for each radio. It¡¯s difficult, but doable to run both.
