Checking quickly for a previous contact

Since the arrival of PSK I have only ever used Digipan.

Digipan has a simple logging method which I have always found useful.
If I wish to check if I've had a previous contact, all I do is click on
the log and check if the call is already there. Having the answer
instantly I can either respond to the CQ, or move to another.

Is there a way I can do this with fldigi ? The only alternative, if
this isn't possible, is to have my old second computer running on
Digipan and check calls on that. I've downloaded the XM log and Win 32
logging systems but I cannot see a way of doing a check like this
without problems. Any help is appreciated.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for the reply and all the good advice. I did eventually get
myself sorted out, after some help! Not being a technically minded
person I can be regarded as being like a partially sighted man wearing
dark glasses looking for a coin I dropped in a dark room !

Eventually, with advice from helpful people, I get there !

DX Labs Bridge and fldigi waterfall

w1ret

Hello All.

I running the bridge and am using DX Labs Commander with fldigi. This
works fine.

However, I don't get the RF frequency displayed on the waterfall. It
displays the audio frequency. Has anyone else experienced this or
have I set something incorrectly? Or is this how it works?

Thanks and 73,

Olivia settings

Hi folks -
for those of us who are coming from MixW-Olivia, the settings limited
themselves to selection of speed and tone number, i.e. 1000/32 or
500/16. Here in fldigi I find under Config-Modem-Olivia a selection
of "tone frequency spacing" and "integration period". Ok, I could
leave it on the given values, BUT:
- what do these choices mean for the average user like myself?
- What can I improve or prejudice by changing those values?
- Do they apply both at transmission and reception ?
I know what FEC means and how it is applied in Olivia, but these
choices mean little to me.

Reason for my question is that I have an excessive number of garbage
on Olivia reception in fldigi-win on XP, exceeding 60, whereas my QSO
partners did not complain about my signal. With MixW I got usually
100% print even under difficult conditions.

Rich - may I abuse of your fountain of wisdom again, please, when you
got a moment?
Thanks in advance

Is anyone on the list using FL-Digi under Vista with a Signalink USB interface?

I have not been able to make this combination to work, my old home built interface worked fine under Vista.

Hello everyone,

I really am having prblems with the fldigi macro's.

Reference:

1.? Please always indicate which OS you are using when reporting errors or asking for assistance.

2.? When you select the menu item "Files/Save macros ..." the OS default file chooser will be opened.? The structure of the default file chooser varies with the OS being used.? In all cases the default macro file "macros.mdf" will be available to select with a simple .? You may enter the name of a new macro file in which the modified macros are saved.? You may have multiple macro files in the fldigi files directory (folder).

3.? Version 3.03 will always open the default macro file, "macros.mdf" upon execution.? You may then open any of the other macro files by using the menu item "Files/Open macros ..." and selecting from the list of found files.? I have several:

macros.mdf
rtty.mdf
fd.mdf
test.mdf

Well you get the idea.

4.? In the next version of fldigi the program will remember the last opened macro file and use it as the one to initially open.

Re : I have a problem with macro's

I put my coat on and went out into the garden with a brush and
collected leaves. Lovely day, bright sunshine, cool but nice.
Deciding to have another try I saved three or four macro's by saving
macros.mdf. I have to say,Digipan is so much simpler, that's why I've
always used it.

Another problem solved.

Kind regards, Mel G0GQK

Re: I have a problem with macro's

Mel - as I understand you have saved the macros under one name and
fldigi opens up macros.mdf . If you don't wish to mess around too
much, just copy macros.mdf to a backup site somewhere so you can
retrieve it from there intact if something goes wrong.
What I do is:
right click on macro button
edit
click on OK
save macros.mdf, click ok.
In any case the alterations should be visible under the respective
button already with fldigi still running.

If you wish to ascertain whether it has been done and will be loaded
again correctly, just shut down fldigi (no need for shutting down
your pc), and open it up again. You will see that it is there.

MY cq macro looks like this:
<TX>
CQ CQ CQ de <MYCALL> <MYCALL> <MYCALL>
CQ CQ CQ de <MYCALL> <MYCALL> <MYCALL> cq k
<RX>

Rich - thanks very much; indeed, I have tried the one or other linux
script but - q.e.d. - with nil success. Nevertheless, I take it up
again later according to your suggestion and shall report here if there
is any positive outcome.

Fred,

As I read it, the <exec> script </exec> macro pair is primarily for
Linux versions. I think you may want to experiment with it and see if
you can get a script from linux to work. In the linux version, it is
used to start a perl script located in the .fldigi/scripts directory.
The windows equivalent would be to create a directory named "scripts"
under the fldigi.files directory. Maybe try a windows perl version or
something that will work with cygwin? This could get very
complicated.

I think I've sorted that bit out !

Went into the shack this morning, checked out the computer and I was
unable to TX on Digipan or PSK-PAL. I checked the mouse and curser on
fldigi and the curser still wouldn't lock in to a PSK signal after
clicking when I moved the mouse.

The only solution was a system restore, I went back to the 31st
October and having done this, fldigi was removed and now, as if by
magic, I could now RX and TX on Digipan and PSK-PAL. Fldigi was
uninstalled and I also removed Digipan because of a fault which
occured years ago and despite three replacement downloads I just
couldn't shift the problem. When Digipan opened the tracks were wide
and spread all over the screen despite being set on PSK 31 and the
only way to stop it was a squirt of RF and then it functioned as a
normal PSK 31 page. It may yet appear again on the downloading I've
made tonight despite removing everything, except in the registry.

I downloaded fldigi on another computer last night, the curser locks
as it should when the mouse is moved. I've just downloaded fldigi on
the shack computer and this time I'll use Quickmix, Britains best
selling concrete, on fldigi, and stop it messing about altering the
settings. Fix the settings in concrete !

Kind regards, Mel G0GQK

Re : How do I lock the curser ?

Hello Fred,

I believe I did what you suggest, which I what I've always done with
Digipan, move the curser to the PSK transmission, click it and it stays
on the yellow track and starts decoding. When I did this with FLDIGI,
it didn't,it decoded and when I moved the curser it wasn't locked, and
I have two widgets about an inch either side of the curser.

Anyway, what I'm going to do is to remove it, download again and start
with a fresh untouched copy.

Kind regards, Mel G0GQK

Re: How do I lock the curser ?

Hi Mel - welcome to the club! :-)) I mean fldigi. So you got rx
already, and within short you will have tx as well.
Re cursor, to tune to psk signals, just bring the track into the centre
of the two vertical lines and click; then move out of the waterfall
into the rx or tx pane. To stop those two lines moving, just move the
mouse cursor out of the waterfall, and there will remain the tuned
position only visible.
Indeed, ham radio would be boring without swapped cables, open
contacts, and simple senior moments... :-)

A question about fldigi. What do I do to make the curser stay in

lock on to a signal, I've got a wide "thingie" following the curser

If someone will either provide me with a pdf or a link to one which describes the FT-757GX command set I will put together a rigCAT xml file for the transceiver.
