Re: Virus - W1HKJ.com ??
I recently heard about an "free" cert org whose goal is to ensure that everyone can afford certs.

Re: Slows down, then freezes
I have had fldigi slow and freeze many times. I don't use flrig. I don't recall if PTT stayed on. I was given all sorts of recommendations about RF, which might have been good advice. IMO, if RF were the culprit, I'd have seen the problems regularly. As an erstwhile software engineer and programmer, I thought (think) that in my cases, it is more likely fldigi getting busy with something that it doesn't plan for. For example, flmsg can hang if fldigi is closed first. When I see the slowing of the waterfall, I restart all fl_suite programs. In days past, if there were a comm stream problem, fldigi would hang. It's better now.
My experiences don't mean that RF can't be the culprit in any circumstance, just that it wasn't/isn't in my case. And in my case, the slowing/freezing of the waterfall is eliminated simply by restarting all fl_suite, and picking up where I left off. That's all pretty easy to do quickly, and, because I simply restart all comms and all is well, I have a hard time blaming RF. Sometimes I need to use the task manager to kill fl_suite. I can do that in seconds. I have my radios 0.25 m from my laptops. Well grounded system. No RF in the shack that I can see. I use various comm gear, such as direct control of the TS-480, and SignaLink and digirig. No problems on a regular basis. Powerwerx PS 0.5 m from all the gear. Tuners nearby. VHF/UHF/HF (480 & 830). 2 items I am curious about are USB traffic during this time, and %CPU used by any fl_suite program. ~R~ On 2024-09-20 20:34:, ve3ki wrote: Do you have any USB cables connected to the computer, regardless of what they are connected to? Re: Slows down, then freezes
Over a year ago when I was BEGGING for step-by-step instructions on fldigi, IC-7300 and RS-918 and suffering computer glitches it was recommended to get Tripplite cables, ferrites and all that to no avail. I got the Tripps, the ferrites and used them all with no change.
?
Every time I keyed the transmitter, fldigi would go nuts, lock up and I don't recall the symptoms. Others hollared "RF in the shack!" There was but not what they thought. The vertical antenna was 20 feet from the shack.
?
The ONLY thing was turning OFF the touch pad on the laptop AND using the wireless mouse.
?
Have you turned off your touch pad?

Group- Tnx for the responses.?? I'll be trying TRIPPLITE usb cables w/ferrite chokes at each end, removing the USB hub from the desktop and plugging in direct to the desktop, and a few more things................ 73 Jay W6CJ On Tue, Sep 17, 2024 at 4:44?AM Mike/N1JMC via <Clarkjmc=comcast.net_at_groups.io_lastradioman@...> wrote: |
Re: Changing the USB-D mode command sent by flrig to a TS-890S?
OK Mike, I unchecked 'Use xcvc data'. ?So, the only box I have checked in the Read/Restore window is 'Mode'. ?Now when I restart flrig it is changing the mode to USB-D which is perfect! ?However, the frequency on the radio is now also being changed.
?
I am hoping there is a way to still leave the frequency in the radio unchanged when I start flrig while changing only the mode to USB-D.

Turn off "use xcvr data" -- that for when you do NOT want to restore? Mike W9MDB

This is great Mike, thanks! ?I was using 2.0.05. ?Upgrading to 2.0.05.75 has flrig able to set the USB-D mode on the TS-890S.

Repeater Builder RIM-Maxtrac 9600
This is not an FLDigi issue.
?
I am attempting to setup a VHF NBMES station with FLDigi,? coupled to a Motorola M216 Radius .? A Repeater Builder RIM-Maxtrac 9600 interface device is in place between rig and PC for PTT and sound transfer.??
?
Anyone out there using the RIM with FLDigi Please get in touch direct and we'll not bother others with an off subject issue.
?
So far I have the system receiving just fine.? CAT is not available for the radio so using the RIM interface's PTT solution to key the transmitter.? The PTT tests as good when selecting Configure > rig control > C media-A as the PTT option.? No Comm port at all shows in Windows device manager as the RIM is a USB PnP sound device with some sort of PTT Circuit.
?
Other than the test PTT selection in the configure menu works fine, then no further transmitter keying or of course no data out.
?
Thanks for reading though silence will be deafening as the RIM vendor lacks FLdigi expertise though is aware others are using the device with FLDigi and VARA.? ?I haven't been able to get this far in Linux (UBUNTU) eager to hear of success there for sure.
?
Again Thanks for listening, Phil

Re: Slows down, then freezes
I truly dont mean to sound argumentative, but I still consider this RF related until proven otherwise. Every time this has happened to me, RF was the culprit.?
?
My troubleshooting process involves ensuring all connections are solid, spacing system components further apart, moving antenna further away, adding more ferrites (wrapping coax and cables multiple times through appropriate ferrite mix toroids, not just clamp-ons), and decreasing power.? |
