Any7 body has an extra one that you are willing to part with? I know I have one but, after looking for it for a week, I cannot wait any longer. Thanks. Juan

51 Willys Truck Timken Rear Axle
5
Amateur hour here, and I apologize for not finding an answer that I¡¯m sure someone has posted before (probably several times). I have a 51 Willys truck with a Timken ¡°clamshell¡± (I think that¡¯s what I¡¯m hearing it is called) rear axle I need advice on. The truck is a bit of a Frankenstein, but a ton of fun. I was getting some (I think) hypoid oil in the right rear brake drum. I pulled off the drum/hub; pulled the brake shoes/mech; peeked inside the wheel cylinder rubber cups (one side dry, a wee bit of fluid in the other side). So far so good - I can reassemble everything after getting new outer seal, shims, and maybe replacing the wheel cylinder for good measure. Hypoid seemed to be coming through from inside the bearing (which appears intact, and well greased via the zerk). A neighbor grabs the axle and starts pulling it out, but I have no idea of what can of worms I¡¯m opening now, so I stopped there. Can I pull that axle on out? There must be some kind of inner seal inside the bearing that keeps hypoid on one side and grease on the other ¨C can I pull it from the axle end or do I need to drive it out from the diffy side (would hate to have to split the diff open)? Source for that inner seal? Any trick to getting that axle back in place? If anyone could steer me to a good manual w/ details, or a writeup someone¡¯s done, or might be open to me sending pics/questions, I¡¯d be very grateful. Etc. I¡¯m not doing a resto, just want to keep this bad boy rolling. Thanks all, Reid in San Martin, CA Sent from Mail for Windows

D-20 shift indicator
3
I am looking to set up the transfercase shift indicator lights in Tinkertoy. I'm using a D-20 t-case from a 1964 Wagoner and I need the shift rail switches. I haven't seen them listed at any of the regular suppliers so I'm guessing they are obsolete. Anyone know of a retrofit that will work? Thanks. John -56 Pickup TKER TOY Graham, Wash.

Help Get Andy to Alaska
6
Hi Willys Gurus I got the chance to meet Andy this weekend at AutoZone in Tigard OR. He is traveling from Argentina to Alaska in his Willys Wagon. His Willys is having some serious engine problems. We tested and swapped a few things, and then did a compression check. All the cylinders are between 30 and 50 PSI. Andy is currently staying at my place while he figures out the next phase of his adventure. I am not very mechanical, so Andy is getting some mechanical suggestions off of Facebook Groups. I thought I would share his story here too. Anyone around Portland with some Willys mechanical knowledge that is willing to help? Thanks

Free T96 transmission
2
have a T96 floor shift transmission to give to someone who needs one for a restoration or just to use in their Willys Jeep, truck, etc. I have owned it since 1979 and it was in a 1949 2WD PU. I bought the truck for its bed to use in my 1960 4WD PU. The transmission was laying in the bed and I kept it and it's been in garage since then. It turns freely and shifts (I've never opened it up to look inside). I refuse to junk it but it needs a new home!! I live in Gilroy California, so send me an email if your interested!!

Thinking about NDT's
4
I have a very original ¡¯47 CJ2A with some decent radial P235/75 R15 tires that get me around town just fine. I have been thinking about getting a second set of NDT tires and original steel wheels for parades and such, just to make it look more Jeepy from time to time. Actually I am not sure exactly what would have come on this ¡¯47 CJ2A when it was new. I see a few different brands of NDT tires out there. Which are best? Which are crap? I don¡¯t mind paying more for better quality. They will last my lifetime either way. Not putting Chinese tires on it¡.. The correct steel wheels seem to be harder to find, at least so far into my looking for some. Any suggestions on where to get correct looking new ones for a good price? I don¡¯t mind good used ones either as my CJ2A is more original looking, not a show vehicle. New ones might look out of place on it. :) Thanks! Rick

So, When I was in college, and when I acquired my $200 Willys 2 wd wagon between Noti and Elmira OR), 1972 or so, I lived in a little house between 23rd and 24th street on Agate Street in Eugene. There was a really old guy, meaning maybe 60 who had a green wagon, living almost immediately across the street. Remember it sounded like a V8 engine. I don't know what he did for a living, never talked to him, oddly enough. I remember he towed a utility trailer around with it. He'd be over 100 now, perhaps he's still living. I walked by there not long ago. The wagon is still there, and, most importantly, it is out of the rain. Hasn't moved in decades. So, if someone "needs" a wagon, here it is. Hiding under the carport- Assuming it is a 1957 given the color, originally would have had the 226 six- the Continental, Willys, etc. engine. I learned that Graymarine's six was a marinized 226 Continental. And that Kermath's four cylinder marine engine was based on the flathead 134 Willys, I remember one of these in a really neat double ended lapstrake boat. My boss at the marina, working on it- "rather work on a busted down gas engine than a diesel anytime" he said. There was one commercial fishing vessel in Florence that had an actual Willys 4 cyl in it- it was "marinized" by having a radiator sitting in front of the engine; no salt water in the block that way. May be the same boat, I remember a boat where you peeled back the sheet metal on the top of the fuel tank to put gas in it. Never exploded, open boat. Wonder if the guy smoked while fueling up. I wish I had a picture of the "sanitary facilities" on the docks- there were wood outhouses, with a hole over the water, easier to clean that way. As boys, we noticed that the big perch hung out under there- but how do you make that stuff stay on a hook? Here in Eugene, it's soggy and cool. Can't make myself clean up the garage in the cold, cold meaning in the 40's. It will warm up soon, I'm sure, can get the dust off the wagon and take it for a spin. I like to drive it to the coast, mostly on back roads so I'm not a traffic impediment. It's a time machine for me. Maybe tackle some minor issues with the wagon. Though I have a boat project in queue ahead of it. Hope other folks get some use out of the old beasts this summer. Dan -- Dan 53 2wd Wagon Eugene, OR

"Willys" Stamped rear bumper center piece needed
10
Hi all¡ Happy Happy Thanksgiving¡! Just putting it out here too¡. The rechromers royally Fd up my pristine rear bumper buffing out most the lettering. I'm looking for a Willys Wagon 1957, center piece, rear stamped "Willys" bumper. Besides all the normal outlets listed thru search engines... Any chance anyone here might have one in good condition or know where to find? They are seemingly long long gone. :( TY you all¡. Happy Happy Merry Merrry! Marc

Hybrid temperature sensor
11
The temperature gauge on our '65 wagon was always reading high for a relatively normal engine temperature. I changed the sensor for a new one but the gauge read the same. I read somewhere that a Mustang sensor gives lower gauge readings but unfortunately the Mustang sensor is smaller and so would need an adapter. Yet another COVID project dawned on me... what about fitting a Mustang sensor into the larger Willys "barrel"? I have no idea how these sensors work - they seem to be very simple, consisting of a spring inside the brass housing. The pictures show the Mustang unit and opened Willys counterpart. Then internal threading of the Willys part; assembly and finally the use of a copper washer to seal the two components together. The gauge now reads slightly lower. Cheers, Pavel up North.

Inside door grab reno
Another COVID project for our '65 wagon was to redo the inside door pulls that had seen better days. New foam padding was obtained from Walcks and some small pieces of OEM vinyl material I had saved from upholstery work was pressed into service again. In the 2nd picture you can see the parts needed for the job. I added extra padding to the top of the Walcks foam to give a rounder profile. The last picture shows my poor stitching skills or complete lack of them.

Heater control not working.
18
The heater doesn't seem to be working on our '65 wagon. A quick check of the vacuum tubes shows nothing obviously wrong. The control panel's push buttons won't stay in place when pushed in. This seems to be due to a missing spring. There is a bar that engages the rods attached to the push buttons. I have included 2 pictures of the rod in up and down positions (see the pencil). There must be some way for the bar to stay up on its own... a missing spring? The last photo shows a curious tab that seems to hold a felt in place. Ours isn't touching the felt, so should I bend it in so that it does touch? Thanks for any advice. Pavel up North. ps: there was someone in the Willys World who could renew the letters on the front control cover. Can anyone remember who did that work?

Gauge part
Classification: Public Good morning. I finally got the oil cooler installed on my wagon. I have already noticed a significant improvement. Yay!! Thank you all for your input!! I am looking for a unique part, the amp gauge front face of a 1950-1951, I have one that has some rust on it. I will ruin the white lettering if I go any further to restore the problem area. Thank you. Todd Jones 1950 Willy wagon, Cream Soda.

Speedi sleeve
8
Hi everyone, Been working on a couple of boat trailers, and problems with pitted and rusty spindles- in the area where the seal is supposed to keep out water- the inside- is a problem on one axle end on both trailers. I stumbled across references to this product, which is a stainless steel sleeve that covers up the problems. We'll see. Wonderering if anyone uses this product on the rear end of a Willys 4 crankshaft, to clean up a pitted area where the rear seal is supposed to seal things up. Dan -- Dan 53 2wd Wagon Eugene, OR
