Re: Fuel sending unit

My sending unit would register empty when the tank was full...the solution was to adjust the little metal tabs on the back that "limit" the range of the armature.
?
It's a long shot (as this is probably not causing your situation) but it's an easy thing to check (there's an outside chance that one of the arms may have been bent during shipping). You can also hook up a volt meter to measure the differing resistance of the gauge as it goes through the arc (there's not much resistance there, so you'll want to pick a very low setting--don't remember the ohms at "full" but it's not much).

Re: Not a good willys day

I hate it when that happens! Happened on my 33 ford a couple of years ago. Just a couple of burnt wires thank goodness.?

Re: Adapting a Smart Car motor to a T90 transmission.

I read the Bosch motor is a little less than 50hp that should push the jeep along fine unless you want highway speeds.? The Nissan Leaf motor is about 150hp and there is likely to be plenty of Leaf components available too, probably at a good price.? The whole electric conversion idea is enticing except for the battery question.

Re: Adapting a Smart Car motor to a T90 transmission.

Thanks for the link, Pavel. Certainly an interesting project by a clever fellow. :o)

The motor he's using is a Bosch SMG 180/120, which has been used in several electric cars, not just the Smart Car. Shouldn't be hard to find one used. Further on in the series he shows how he used a second-generation Prius inverter and an Open Inverter Project board to control the motor:

Re: Any 1960-1965 Traveller owners here?

Scramboleer... you are getting there... no doubt faster than I make improvements on our non-Traveller wagon.? Even though your Willys isn't a Duesenberg, it still goes well with the wonderful old SF buildings!? I note that you've turned your wheels curbward on the hill - wise.

Re: Any 1960-1965 Traveller owners here?

Here are a few pics of my '64. As Ben mentioned, you can see the higher (earlier) roof, round rear wheel wells. Etc. I found the missing roof rack for the spare and a buddy fabbed up the missing diamond plate step that mounts between the rear doors and the rear bumper. Also found 16" Willys wheels that will replace the 15" aftermarket ones. The interior needs more work. The sideways jump seats are long gone. Need to find/fab those up, remove the funky towel bar handles, replace the 70s front buckets, etc. One step at a time.

Thanks all. Jim Mueller's green-and-white Traveller is amazing. He's been very helpful anytime I have questions, Great guy.

Re: Any 1960-1965 Traveller owners here?

Hey Jay, nice looking wagon. A Traveller has side windows like a wagon, but has barn doors in the rear like a panel. A traveller also has bench seats in the rear that run along the side. The rear wheel wells are flat on top to accommodate the seats. There is also an indent on the rear portion of the roof. Travelers & Parkways were often sold to the forestry, railroads, government entities etc. to transport more workers.?

I was at the Good Guys show in Puyallup Washington yesterday and there was a beautifully restored 62 Traveler on display. It belongs to a guy named Jim Mueller.

Not a Traveller, just a Parkway. But had to share the OSHA drama.

Re: Fuel sending unit

I replaced my tank 3 years ago with a plastic tank and had similar issues with the sending unit. I replaced the grounding wire twice as I was fairly certain that was my problem. If you have new gauges I'm sure you also have replaced the wiring harness, but if not... that was my issue.

Yes

Re: Can I substitute SAE 85W-90 for SAE 90

So GL-5 spec oil cannot be used with brass (i.e. syncros in tranny).

I've had a *really* hard time finding GL-4 at a reasonable price, but GL-1 is available from NAPA.

Go to NapaOnline.com and search for "65201" - or here's a direct link:

I'd use this before I'd put any GL-5 into the tranny or transfer case.
