Re: Alternator

I'm going to say maybe!? The Ammeter doesn't care about voltage, however what is the current range, for example if you have a 30 amp ammeter AND a 30 amp alternator, yes, if for instance you have the same 30 amp ammeter and a 60 amp alternator..........? you can burn out the ammeter!

JeepsterMan has done it again with a new conversion kit. Add convenience and power with this new 12 Volt GM one wire conversion, 63 Amps. This kit is internally regulated and easy installation. Does away with your voltage regulator. Allows for one wire hookup between battery and alternator. New reproduction alternator

Pavel,

A belt sander would be great for this, I think.? The one I have is too short to reach the ends of the manifold, and in the "don't really screw it up" department, hand sanding allowed me to keep things flat, and to not remove too much material.?

Dan,

It's good to hear you repaired your old manifold yourself.?
I had the same problem with an exhaust casting (just one side for some reason) on our '76 F250 with the huge 460 engine.? The casting had warped markedly as apparently many do.? Of course, the life of an exhaust manifold contains more torture than can be suffered at the hands/mouths of relatives... and for a longer time in many cases!? I know what it's like repeatedly getting hot under the collar and cooling off...?
If you have to remove about 1/8" on the next example you encounter, what about using a belt sander first and finishing up "by hand" as you did.? It is becoming difficult to find shops that will take on this type of work at a reasonable price, or at all, especially if you live in a big city.

Pavel up North.

ps: talking about city auto shops... I needed to get the antifreeze/coolant replaced on our old Volvo and so took it to a Toyota dealership only 2 city blocks from where we live here in Vancouver.? Imo, this is not a difficult job.? Their sign boldly states "All Make Service".? The service manager said they couldn't do the job.? Looking at the car he said, "Why bring it here?? Why not take it to a BMW dealer?"? It was my fault of course, being lazy never pays and perhaps Toyota uses different coolant from Volvo - did the job myself and even got a hug from the Mrs.

Re: Update on Groups.io Reverification Process

Big day today, got new battery cables and installed the starter and it finally turns the engine over. Thanks for the advice from Dan to contact the starter repair place. Made sure I had good grounds and what a relief to see it turn over.

Did you liberally lubricate all all the bearings, with motor oil or
assembly lube, when you installed them? Likewise the pistons and
cylinder bores.

A properly assembled engine should turn over only a little stiffly at
first. Easily turned with a standard length 1/2 ratchet.

Try disconnecting everything from the crankshaft and make sure it turns
easily. Then connect one thing to the crank and see what happens, then
one more, and so on...

Good luck!
