Re: [WT] Hooked on Willys
Chris Lange
Yep, I tried mothballs, but found that mice don't seem to be affected by them. There were little mouse poops right next to them! A fella on this list suggested Downy fabric sheets, so I tried them out last year. No mouse poops. I put them all over the place, inside the body tubs, around the entrance to the barn, etc. Smells a lot better than mothballs too.

grease/oil for steering knuckle
Finally got the info on a couple of products that really work for the
steering knuckle. They look like grease but smell like 80-90 and can be pumped thru a bucket. Shell Alvania EP Grease 00 premium lithium grease and the other is Conoco EP Conolith Grease 00 code #1041526. The first one comes in a 120# container, the second one is used by T and L irrigation systems in the gearboxes and comes in 5 gal. containers and is supposed to have an extra wear agent added. If someone tells you they don't exist, they are wrong because I saw a brand new container of the Shell product unloaded of a freight truck today. I used the Conoco product and after 1 1/2 years, no leaks!! |

T90 front bearing retainer seal?
Hi everyone. I have had another long break from the list as I don't have a computer at
school, but am home for a few days for Thanksgiving. I rebuilt my T90 using Rick's guide (which is a wonderful write up, things went very smoothly due to it) So I found my T90 gasket set, and there was the gaskets for the shift tower and the front bearing retainer, and what appears to be a seal for the bearing retainer. It is felt, about 3/4 inch thick, and has a stiffer side on one side of it. It looks as if it just gets sandwiched in between the retainer and the shaft. The only thing is that the seal doesn't easily fit over the shaft. I am guessing that it needs to be stretched over in order to seal good enough but I just want reassurance from the group. Are the rubber ones mentioned in the rebuild guide better? I can't even remember what was there originally, I took the thing apart like 4 years ago. Thanks everybody, Nathan 54 F-134 Pickup 59 Wagon |

Grill is fine, but the fenders, especially the passenger (battery acid) side are fairly well shot. I could, in theory, rebuild them, but the time investment would be large. I see replacement fenders on several sites - with WIDELY varying prices! Beechwood was the highest at $390 per fender, with D&L Bensinger (BEMAK) fenders listed at $175 each. Does anyone have any insight as to the reason for large price variations? Is it metal thickness / quality issues / or simply business reputation? I should really replace computer, bought in spring of 98, but it does the job. that would cut into willys fund.
