I assure you he didn't know what he was doing. Scott's correct - has to be installed from the inside. The squarish side that he put to the outside has to be inside the cab or the trim pieces won't fit correctly. Hope he doesn't crack the glass when he removes and reinstalls it.

1960 CJ5 tub

My son bought a cj5 to tear around in the sandhills, nothing to fancy
about this jeep, but loads of fun. It has had the tub replaced by a
fiberglass one. The hood and grill are one piece and when it is
closed, the hood sets on the radiator. What is the hood supposed to set
on so it doesn't rub on the radiator and crack out the hood? It uses
the original hood hinges to open and shut.

Ken, I have to hand you off to someone else from here. I have become
somewhat familiar with the Wagons. Since we have determined that what
you have is not a wagon, I am definitely not the best authority. I
think if you can scan those photos and place them in the "Photos"
section, someone here should be able to assist you further.

Yup, it is in backwards. The windshield must be installed from the inside. That is exactly the same problem I had 3 weeks ago. that is what my glass place told me also. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it must be re-done.

DJ

Is this noise more of a whine? It may well be that the cluster shaft and/or intermediate shaft are in need of rebuilding. These shafts only last 25 - 30K. I am assuming this is 4x4?

If the noise is from the wheels, bearings may need work/replacement.

With the OD, you should be able to achieve 55-60MPH. Is it engaging properly?

I would recommend helper springs in the rear to assist with the trailer weight. Let us know where the noise is actually coming from.

Re: [WT] Fuel tank instalation

I bought some webbing from Beachwood Canvas that are made just like the
original webbing that was under there. They have a lot of nice parts
made out of canvas and webbing for the Willys family of vehicles. One
of their catalogs is a must. I also bought things like the webbing that
goes on top of the grill for the hood to rest on, web pieces for the
radiator to sit on, the webbing for the steering column clamp, etc.

I am installing the fuel tank in my CJ3-A. What is used to go between
the
bottom of the tank and the body tub floor pan? I thought maybe several
strips of
canvas, however this might cause water to accumulate and cause rust.
Any
suggestions?

My Tornado Adventure: military vs civilian

blazink

I have this NOS short block that turned out to be a military model. I
pulled the tired, smoking Tornado out of my 62 wagon and stripped it
down to the block. After some careful comparisons and thought I have
determined that I can use this block with the rest of my engine parts.
I may need a couple holes machined but very minimal. I have come to the
conclusion that a military Tornado block can be used with civilian
engine parts, but not the other way around. I have searched the
archives and found a few threads that mentioned this issue but no real
answers. I am going to proceed and will keep the list updated.

Re: [WT] CJ2A Replacement Body

Chris Lange

John,

My tub was bare metal when I got it from him two years ago, so I had to prime it with two coats of primer, and one coat of OD green. All the major holes are there, like the gauge holes, pedal holes, etc, so don't worry too much about drilling. I have not had a problem with anything Markus has sent to me yet, or I certainly would not recomend him. And I am BY NO MEANS a real mechanic. This was my first attempt at anything like this, so trust me, if I can do it, anyone can. (-:

Good luck!

This is good and timely information as I too am looking for a jeep
tub (M38a1). After paying the high cost of body work on my 53 truck,
I've decided to replace the sheet metal on this one if it was
available.

This morning I talked with Marcus at Willys acres about the quality
of the MDJUAN product. He said that drilling was still necessary.
He also says that although the parts are primed he recommends that
they be beedblasted and reprimed with an epoxy primer.

After hearing comments on this subject I've decided to order from
them and keep my old tub for reference purposes until the project is
complete.

Willysacres.com. This was one of the MDJUAN.com bodies. It did have
all the holes drilled for the gauges, floor pedals, etc. The bodies
have come a long way from the early years when you would essentially
get a tub, that sort of looked like a conglomeration of every Willys
jeep from WW2 to 1953. I think with the growing popularity of these
old jeeps, MDJUAN has had to improve thier product to keep the buying
public happy. I was very happy with the tub I received.

Re: [WT] CJ2A Replacement Body

Chris Lange

Robert and John,

It also helps if you can have it delivered to a business. They pretty much drive a tractor trailer up to your location, and pallet jack the tub in a crate to the end of the trailer. After that, its all up to you. I was lucky as I was able to get mine delivered to my store. He just pulled up to the dock, off loaded it, and drove off. Then my wife pulled the Ranger pickup in, and we slid the crate into the back of the truck.

I would imagine, if you have it delivered to your home, that you will need some sort of two wheeled cart, or something to move the crate. Its large, and you need more than one person obviously to move it around.

Anyway, I was very happy with mine, and that was two years ago. Its now on my CJ2A frame, and the jeep is starting to look more like a vehicle again, and less like a potential marital issue. (-:

Good luck!

Chris

Marcus said to send it to Ohio was about $250.00.
