The last time l had a no start like you describe it was the timing. Try turning the distributor a little bit.

Be careful you have the timing correct because you may have valves hitting pistons. With the plugs out you should be able to turn it over with a socket and ratchet.

SO many ways to start looking, how hard is it to crank over by hand with no plugs..the starter has very hard copper like brushes that get stuck..the battery can read 6+, but whats it at while starting and after..I still got a 6 volter but jumped up to 8 volts. I don't out run the head lights any more..
