Re: SD Reader Difficulty (MorseTutor, ESP32 version)
Vince, Hate to differ with you, but despite all your suggestions, the solution to the SD card read failure is, as Bruce suggests, a coding issue. Tinkering with the code line values in Bruce¡¯s hack, results in a well-performing Tutor. Bud, KD8RGW On Thu, Jul 4, 2024 at 9:42?AM Vince d'Eon VE6LK/AI7LK via <vincedeon=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Morse Tutor Schematic
I've built a couple, I don't remember a schematic, and I didn't find one in my project doc folder. The pcb is well labeled, that's what I used to build. You can take a pinout of the ESP32 module and quickly draw in the connections between the modules. That's what I did when troubleshooting a defective key jack. Mitch W4OA Opelika, AL |
Re: SD Reader Difficulty (MorseTutor, ESP32 version)
Bruce,
Thank you for the tip. ?I believe the change ("hack") had already be performed so I changed it back to a "1". Still no success. ?I returned the value to "0" and saved the sketch, followed by? recompiling/upload. ?The SD card reader now is performing perfectly. ?By the way, my Arduino IDE prompted me to update my libraries...not sure that played a role but at least I am up-to-date. Hope this post is useful to the others who have had problems with the SD card reader. Really love your Morse Tutor...TU TU TU. ? 73, Bud, KD8RGW |

Re: SD Reader Difficulty (MorseTutor, ESP32 version)
For the missing first character, consider trying the following "hack": In line 947:?? ? ? ? strcpy(list[count++],&()[1]); ? ? // add?SD?file to the list (ESP32: remove '/') change the "1" to a "0". It could be that a library update has changed ESP32 behavior. Bruce On Fri, May 17, 2024 at 1:54?PM Dean via <dean=[email protected]> wrote: I am having the same problem. I am having the same problem. First letter of the filename is truncated. I have filename like test.txt, example.txt, preamble.txt
I tried a little test. I also uploaded a file names reamble.txt On the tutor I selected reample.txt and it is working. |

Mitch, I put mine in an aluminum box.? ?I only 3D printed the front and back panels because I didn't want to drill the aluminum (and it looked cool).? ?Perhaps someone else has 3D-printed a full enclosure. Bruce On Thu, Mar 14, 2024 at 9:28?PM Mitch W4OA via <sf.mitchell=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Looking for a PCB
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Bill. You asked what color enclosure I would want for the MCT.? I am not choosy.? A friend made me an enclosure for one of the mct's but it does not fit the board it was for.? It was the friends first attempts to do 3D printing.? I am like you in that I was building both Bruce's (W8BH) MCT and his pocket MCT.? I prefer the pocket mct and it is a great option when you have to take it somewhere (like a club meeting).? I prefer and enclosure though as live electronics die a violent death on my work bench that I use the Pile it method on!? I do love to build though and have several projects on the bench now.? Most are timers (UV timer, or photo timers) but one is a VK3BHR LCR meter.? I prefer his design since it measures low capacity and inductance parts where the Chinese offerings seem to balk at anything below 25pf and 25?h. I prefer cw.? Right now I am off the air for lack of a decent antenna that works.? I have a 500ft inverted VEE doublet up but it does not work.? I think it is because the solid core ladderline wire has a break in it somewhere. Also it is only up 20ft.?? I used to be very good at cw but that was back in the 70's so not so much any more. I am glad the LA3FY chimed in with the link to his gerbers.? I thought he had given them to me before but I could not find them on my hard drive. I was not familiar with teh KS4NS version.? Where did you find information on that one? I have been in a library a couple times here but found their offerings to be totally useless.? I understand that they can not keep books on the shelf that are current but books on the Arduino or even the PIC have been around for several years and are and were very popular with the maker crowd so I would have expected to see at least 1 on the shelf.? I had seen a lot of people state their local libraries offer 3D printing as a service. You mention working for a university.? I retired from CWU (Central Washington University) as an IT specialist 8 years ago.? The university library was not too bad,? at least they had books on computer related subjects.? Also since I maintained the computers in the Cad labs I had access to 3D printers.? I never used that service but I had access to them.? Now I live too far away to even attempt to use them. Hi Bill!I don't know the formula but when I sent the gerbers it was $33 for 3 boards. I found that very reasonable and I have always been satisfied with the quality of their work. So I ordered them. :-) Worst part now is the wait but that has never been unreasonable either. Thanks again. bill KB3YV |

Hi guys!Thank you. I grabbed all of it. Have never had PCB's made so not sure what the next step is but it will be fun learning. I have bought a number of PCB's from OSHPark I will have to try and figure out what it will cost. bill KB3YV |
Looking for a PCB

Hello Bill.Hmmm. I don't have the LA3FY PCB. Maybe that's the one. I have the W8BH, the KI4PSR and a third by KS4NS but, as I said, they are all too big to fit in the box. I have a completed W8BH and it works like a charm. I am hoping to revive my morse skills after several decades of inactivity. (My last CW contact was as DA1WO back in 1978!!) But I really want to build all of them. I am also building 2 of W8BH MCT designs (1 of each).? How much would you charge for the enclosures for them?Charge? Have no idea. Do people really do that? :-) What color(s) would you want? I have a blue one I haven't used cause one of the boards I bought came with a black enclosure of its own. And I have other colors of filament. Oddly enough this 3 city area libraries do not offer 3D printing nor do they have a single Maker or computer book and yet the area has one of the highest per capita PHD populations in the country!Probably because libraries as anachronistic. I, personally, have not been in a library in over 15 years that I can remember and I used to work at a University in the building right next door to the library. I think at this point it would be pretty much impossible for a library to keep up to date books on computer related stuff on their shelves and with the existence of the web, why bother. As I recall, I did start a KI4PSR board but gave up on it when W8BH came out with his designs and layouts.I have a completed KI4PSR board but haven't put it in a box yet. Will soon, though. I hope that helps.I guess I need to look around for the LA3FY PCB. Could you send me the gerbers? bill KB3YV (formerly N2APY and DA1WO) Good luck. |

Bill the Thingiverse description for that box says it is for the W8TEE version of the morse tutor.Yes, and I spoke with Jack (I am already in the other group) and he said he never did a PCB for it. Someone had to. The mounts for the board inside that case are smaller than any of the other boards. Thanks for the help. bill KB3YV |
