Kit Building
Sierena mentioned kit building at the meeting Tuesday night as something the event committee thought we might want to do. JJ showed me a few examples of kits after the meeting and I wish I’d have taken the time to discuss it. I guess my mind had already moved on to whatever was next. My apologies. Below are a few links to various kits we might want to build as a group activity. None of them look overly complicated or expensive from what I’ve seen. You’d get some practice soldering and have something useful when you are done. One that might be of specific interest as the weather warms back up and we plan to get back into fox hunting is the RF Attenuator. They have an 11dB and 41db for $15 and $25 respectively. Anyway, I’ll paste a few links below. Reply and let us know what you think. This would most likely be something we’d do on a Saturday maybe… just get together sometime other than a monthly meeting and build toys! I tried to determine how they do shipping. 1 item was 4 or 5 bucks shipping, and 15 was around $12…. So we might be better to get a group order together and save a little on shipping. Easy Receiver - Pacific Antenna 11dB Step RF Attenuator - Pacific Antenna Dummy Load - Pacific Antenna Easy Field Strength Indicator - Pacific Antenna

ARES Net Schedule
At the ARES meeting Tuesday night, we decided to make the regular Tuesday night net an ARES net. The purpose is allow operators practice as net controllers which will be a great benefit during severe weather or other emergency situations. Being able to communicate effectively, control the situation, and accurately log information is a skill that takes practice, and we want everyone interested to have that opportunity. Practice makes better! Below is our net control schedule for the next couple months. Chris has developed a script, and emailed it out to those who were in attendance earlier this evening. If you're interested in participating in ARES as we get things up to speed, please make plans to attend our next meeting. Currently, ARES meetings will be the 4th Tuesday of the month, and our regular club meeting will remain the 2nd Tuesday of the month, both at 6pm at the EOC. Nets will be on the other Tuesdays... 1st, 3rd and 5th (in those months) at 7pm. There will also be a simplex net on the 3rd Tuesday at 7:30. If things change, we'll be sure to inform everyone. As I said at the meeting Tuesday, this is pretty new for most of us involved and going to take some time to get off the ground. Please be patient as we all learn together. We may not get it all right the first try, but with a group of willing participants, we will get there. Tuesday February 6, 7:00pm - ARES Net - Chris KC0F Net Control Tuesday February 13, 6:00 - W0HCA Club Meeting Tuesday February 20, 7:00pm - ARES Net - Craig AE0WA Net Control Tuesday February 20, 7:30pm - ARES Simplex Net on 146.520 - Eric KD0CEN Net Control Tuesday February 27, 6:00pm - Weather Spotter Training at Civic Center (NO ARES Meeting) Tuesday March 5, 7:00pm - ARES Net - Sierena KF0LQB Net Control Tuesday March 12, 6:00pm - W0HCA Club Meeting Tuesday March 19, 7:00pm - ARES Net - Bill KF0BFD Net Control Tuesday March 19, 7:30pm - ARES Simplex Net on 146.520 (Need Volunteer for Net Control - Base / Mobile Station with Base Antenna for SIMPLEX Net needed) Tuesday March 26, 6:00pm - ARES Monthly Meeting

Ham Shack Hotline
I’ve thought about doing this several times but never have…. Had a couple of fiends talk me into it yesterday, so I purchased my phone this morning. Thought I’d share the info. If you’re a nerd like me, you might enjoy it. We’re planning on having a net of sorts on it just to troubleshoot and discuss what we’re currently working on. Fox Hunting Edification & Amazement
I printed the attached file which is a map of West Plains. I then emailed it to the UPS Store and Angie laminated it for me. I got both 8.5x11 and 11x17. I intend to use this with a compass, straight edge, and dry erase marker just like the basic orienteering shown in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN-c5DQFuhI Have a good weekend, 73 Steve
