Learning Material for those interested in becoming a Ham Radio
2
At the farmers market today, we had some interest from some potential new hams. At least one has already joined our group here. Please share any information or material you have or would recommend to someone that is just starting. I’ll share a link to the ARRL tech manual, which is where all the test questions come from. There are also endless YouTube videos and apps available, so share any info you may have used that could benefit others. Thanks for your help!! https://a.co/d/8PHlywR Eric, KD0CEN

John Price
2
John Price, KO?KY, is not doing well at all. I am told that he has been in a Springfield hospital pretty much since his surgery of early January. I do not have details past that. What we do have is a get well card and a way to get it to John. The card will be at The Battery Station for about a week before we send it. Anyone interested in signing the card is invited to stop by the shop and add your name. Please pass the word to others who may not yet be signed-up for 开云体育. Thanks, KB?PHX

New HRO Location
2
HRO is looking for suggestions on where to put a new store. Probably a slim chance of them putting one somewhere smaller than St Louis or Kansas City, but members of the Nixa club are submitting Springfield. I’d love to have a store like HRO as close as Springfield. Use the link below to submit your recommendation. Let them know they would have customers in this region!! https://www.hamradio.com/newstore.cfm?fbclid=IwAR3dfJETF2ZLKrmZkF7cWtiLKHlyTrYThNzHei9saSVkGkSq_S1JK-X7o6E

MO QSO Party this weekend
Info I received on the Missouri QSO party this weekend. Hello! I'm Kyle AA0Z and I'm helping coordinate some media for the Missouri QSO Party. If your club has a mailing list, could you send this communication out? We are trying to get as many people interested in participating in this year's MOQP event as possible. Thanks! 73. **** The MO QSO Party is this coming weekend!!! The Missouri QSO party contest is April 1st and 2nd this year (3 days away). We want you to participate. The MOQSO Party is a 2 day event, but you don't need to work both days. The goal this year is to put every single county on the air and we need your help! The MOQSO Party is a great way to dip your toe into contesting. It's laid back, slow paced and you pick the speed you want to participate in. So, if you are new to contesting, this contest is for you! Here are some links you might be interested in. Ozarks Heritage Music Fest

Sierena spoke with Paula Perino about setting up a booth. We would need to fill out a form and pay $35 bucks for booth space. Did we pay a fee in the past as a non-profit? We might consider selling bottles of water cheap to try and recoup the $35. Thoughts?

Monthly Meeting Cancelled!!

FCC now requires RX exposure survey
The FCC , on May 3, 2021, enacted rules governing RF exposure and allowed a 2-year transition period for all RF emitting stations to comply. On May 23, 2023 ALL transmitters operating in the United States must comply with the rules. There is an excellent article about this in the May issue of QST. In a nutshell, all stations must complete an RF exposure survey and maintain documentation of that survey for every transmitter and antenna they utilize. To help amateur radio operators comply with this, the ARRL has developed an on-line exposure calculator to do the calculations and print out the results for documentation. calculator http://arrl.org/rf-exposure-calculator ARRL article https://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-helps-radio-amateurs-comply-with-new-rf-exposure-evaluation-rules Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g8XmR9qVh0

Farmers Market Saturday
Amateur Radio will be on display at the Farmers Market, this Saturday, June 10th from 8:00am to around noon at Endurance Church in West Plains. Come to our booth, bring your radios and play along. Last go around, we had several come by and express interest in our hobby. We’re hoping for more of the same this time. Come join in the fun before we hopefully get some much needed rain!

June Meeting
This month’s club meeting will be held Tuesday, June 13th, 7:00pm at the Howell County Emergency Operations Center, located in the basement of the Howell County Health Department on Kentucky Avenue. Use the basement door on the North side of the building. There is a lot to discuss and Craig KE0TKC will show us a nice end-fed antenna he built that we’ve been testing in a somewhat NVIS environment. It tunes up nicely on 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters. Look forward to seeing everyone. Eric

June Meeting and Farmers Market Saturday
Thanks to everyone that turned out for the meeting Tuesday evening! I think it went great and we’ll be able to make lots of progress going forward. Our Farmers Market display last Saturday turned out great. We made some HF contacts, and several new friends that will join our club on a regular basis. Because of the success, we’re going to do it again this Saturday and every 3rd Saturday for a while from 8-1 at Endurance Church in West Plains. Come be with us if you can, but we understand if you can’t. If you have radios you need help programming, bring them by and we’ll try to help you out. This has proven to be a great opportunity for us to reach out to our community and grow some interest. We can also use it as time to get together and help each other out and talk shop!! Hope to see everyone Saturday.
