Bet you're still hot from their last dance at VCD! Now, you'll be steaming again with Bellingham's Sub-Zero Glitter Fridge. The only name that so far has dared to attempt defining this mysterious combo of Bellingham-based Celtic music investigators. Simultaneously frosty and electrified, darkling and dazzling, SZGF provides reliable, prolonged music that is unquestionably necessary and yet a little more luxury than you thought you needed. Guaranteed to take up lots of valuable floorspace, store cake and ice cream responsibly, and play fiddle (Bell Cayley Schmid) and guitar (Sam Vogt). Now with higher emissions.

(1) VCD dance May 20

Think you'll need a toque and gloves? NOT

You'll be steaming with Bellingham's Sub-Zero Glitter Fridge (Bell Cayley Schmid on fiddle, Sam Vogt on guitar, and David Pender Lofgren on bodhran).

Seattle's David Kreiss-Tomkin's calling will keep the temperature HOT!

Band:
Sub-Zero Glitter Fridge - The only name that so far has dared to attempt defining this mysterious trio of Bellingham-based Celtic music investigators. Simultaneously frosty and electrified, darkling and dazzling, SZGF provides reliable, prolonged music that is unquestionably necessary and yet a little more luxury than you thought you needed. Guaranteed to take up lots of valuable floorspace, store cake and ice cream responsibly, and play fiddle, guitar, and bodhran (now with higher emissions).

Caller: David Kreiss-Tomkins
David fell in love with contra at the age of 11 on a mountainous island in Alaska. He began calling in Ohio and seeks out dances that emphasize the joy of connection. He values active consent, knows that the music and the dancers are the heart of an evening, and is testing his theory that contra is the gateway to a contract with the New York City Ballet.

St James Community Hall 3214 West 10th Avenue (at Trutch)
7:30-10:30, Orientation session 7:15
$20; first-timers, students with ID, and after-the-break $15; children free; cash only
Upcoming dances (all Saturdays): Jun. 17 (Elgin).
Please help us by bringing soft soled shoes and a water bottle.
Please bring your friends!

Breaking News!! Chehalis Contra Dance Weekend is a go!

Breaking News!! Chehalis Contra Dance Weekend is a go!

September 22-24, 2023, SULLIVAN HALL, Surrey, BC

Many thanks to all the dancers who responded to our survey; your responses were the encouragement we needed to continue our plans for holding Chehalis Contra Dance Weekend 2023. Since sending out the survey, for various reasons, we have decided to hold Chehalis¡¯ first ¡°in-town¡± weekend in our original choice of hall; we look forward to dancing with you in Surrey¡¯s lovely, heritage Sullivan Community Hall in September.

The amazing talent that originally signed on for 2020, KGB, the Stringrays, and callers Lisa Greenleaf and Wendy Graham have committed to being with us in 2023. Andy Smith will be doing our sound.??

As COVID is still a part of our lives, to protect the health of our talent and dancers, all attendees will be required to wear masks while indoors, (except of course, when eating.)

Registration is now open.

Please see the Chehalis Website for more information: https://www.vcn.bc.ca/vcountry/chehalis/#:~:text=Save%20the%20Date%20for%20next,24%2C%202023%2C%20SurrEY%2C%20BC.?

We are looking forward to dancing with you!

From the Chehalis committee members:

Cecelia Holcapek?

Janet Rozanski

Barb Selvage?

Jane Srivastava
