Scottish Country Dance arranged for May
Hi All,
Due to the lack of workable weekend dates in May, we will have our Scottish Country Dance for that month on a Tuesday instead of a Sunday. Many thanks to the Illini Folk Dancers for hosting us. (Note we still have a dance Sunday, April 30 at MUMC.) Date: Tuesday, May 23 Time: 7:30 - 9:30 PM Location: Channing Murray Foundation, 1209 W. Oregon St., Urbana, IL Cost: $5/person I know many from BN won't be able to come due to work schedules and such, but hopefully we will still get a nice crowd and perhaps even a few new dancers. I should have included that we are still observing COVID precautions and requiring people to be vaccinated and wear masks at the dance. Sorry for the oversight.

Free contra dance this Friday
#Dance
To celebrate his 60th birthday, which happened during our COVID hiatus, Dan Lewart will be sponsoring the dance this Friday, March 24 at Channing-Murray as his Post Factum 60th Birthday Dance. Admission will be FREE. The band will be Brenda and Friends from C-U and the caller will be Gail Hintze from Chillicothe.
In addition some folks from a group called Urbanalogue will be taking video during the dance to be shown at a later time. This may help spread the word about contra dance and promote our group. Just a heads up that you might be recorded during the dance. Of course, we'll all be wearing masks so it will be anonymous to a certain degree. ;-) Bring your mask and water bottle and snacks to share at the break. I hope everyone will come to enjoy some great music and dancing at a FREE contra dance and wish Dan a belated happy birthday. Jonathan |

Dancers are normally grouped in sets, typically of three, four or five couples arranged either in two lines (partners facing each other) or in a square. They work together to dance a short sequence of formations that provide a particular dance with its identity. The originality of the formations ensures each couple gets the chance to experience the dance from different positions. Scottish Country Dance Feb 5
Hi All,
We will be holding our second Scottish Country dance at the Mansfield Methodist Church Sunday, February 5. Certified instructor Michi Baubock will be leading. This time we have the facility 2-5 p.m., so we won't be so rushed and will be able to take a break at half time. Per group preference, I'm only sending formal invitations to the English and Contra dancers. Nonetheless, if you know interested people who are vaccinated and don't mind wearing a mask, feel free to invite them. The dances will be generally beginner level, and new people are welcome. Sue |
contra dance on Friday
#Dance
Our next contra dance will be this Friday, January 27 at Channing-Murray. The band for the evening will be Too Old To Be Controlled with Claudia and Gary Kaufman from Danvers and Dave Kuntz from Bloomington-Normal. I will be the caller this Friday. There will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30pm and the dance will start at 8. Bring your water bottle and a snack to share at the break!
We still require that everyone wears a mask while inside the building and presents proof of up to date vaccination. That is the original vaccine and any boosters you are eligible for. I hope everyone will come out and join us for some fun music and dance. Jonathan |
