contra dance Friday
#Dance
Our next contra dance will be this Friday, January 19 at the Channing-Murray Foundation, 1209 W. Oregon in Urbana. Miriam Larson and Matt Turino will be providing the music and the caller will be Karen Jackson from St. Louis. There will be some great music and fun dances, so I hope everyone will come out and join us. As usual there will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30 and then the dance will begin at 8:00. Bring your friends to join in the fun and snacks to share at the break.
There has been a change to the COVID policy for our dances. Unless otherwise specified all dances will be masks optional. There is only one dance this spring, on March 15, where masks will be required. If the COVID situation changes at some point this policy may also be changed, but for the time being masks will be optional at our dances. If you are looking for more dancing next weekend there will be an English country dance next Sunday, January 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Mansfield United Methodist Church at 200 East Illinois St. in Mansfield. We will be doing some easy dances and covering the basics of ECD so this would be a good time to give it a try. I hope to see everyone at one, or both, of the dances next weekend. Jonathan |

a sad announcement about Anne Martel
Jan Kalmar has just informed me that Anne Martel, a long time dancer, has passed away. Here is the note Jan sent.
----- One of our beloved dancers, bright, funny, full of spunk, and engagement has died, just shy of 98 years old. For those of us lucky enough to have known Anne Martel, our lives and the planet has been enriched by her gifts and sparkle. Here is her obituary. Should you want family contact information email Jan at jankalmarjoy@... |
Re: COVID alert
Dr. Ellen J. tested positive for COVID this morning. I noticed a couple of people coughing during the weekend including Tom who stayed with us. It was nice to dance without masks but maybe they would have been a good idea with the larger group. Ellen tested negative yesterday. A problem with covid is that latency period where you can spread it without knowing? you have it. Really a fun weekend. Great job of organizing.? Max
