Scottish Country Dance Try It
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi All, ? Thanks for you prompt replies. We have 12 interested people, so that should be enough for a Scottish Try It to be a go. I contacted Michi about his schedule. When I hear back from him, I¡¯ll get back to you with more details. ? Sue H |
Re: [ciecd-leaders] name of new dancer
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý
I can't do evenings in C-U, but of course would be glad to dance Scottish during our usual ECD time, at our ECD place. ?

Hi All, Some of you may have met Michi Baubock? at one of our traditional dances. He is in CU for the next few years on a grant. In addition to other traditional dancing, Michi is a Scottish Country (Set) dancer (with the teaching credentials of that group) and is willing to teach some Scottish dancing. Long term hopes are to establish a regular group, but for the moment we are focusing on a Try It workshop. For the Try It to be a "go", we need a minimum of eight people for one four-couple set. Please let me know if you are interested. Pass the word to anyone else you think may be interested. Facilities and date are TBD, but I picture the usual locations on a Tuesday evening, Friday evening, or Sunday afternoon for 1-2 hours. We'd ask each person to chip in to help pay for the facilities, probably about $5 each. Thanks, Sue Hanson |

Re: update on vaccination requirements
I have put this topic on moderation so that we don't end up with a flood of different people responding and then others responding to those responses. While it is always hard to know what is best in any situation, the UCD board has been using the information from the CDC and the Champaign County Public Health District to make decisions about our COVID policies, and not from potentially biased newspaper articles. In part the requirements for attending dances are there to help people feel comfortable. I personally would probably not attend if there weren't some sort of protocol in place. When the infection rate and other numbers decrease the policies will be reviewed and changed as needed. We all hope that things will settle down such that we can return to a more normal situation, but we haven't reached that point yet.

update on vaccination requirements
There have been some questions on what the vaccination requirement for attending contra dances is now that there is a new, updated vaccine available. The UCD board members discussed this and decided that the vaccination requirements will remain the same for the time being. That is, you need the original vaccine and then any boosters you are eligible for. We encourage everyone to get the new vaccine this fall and will make it part of the vaccination requirement for attending dances starting in November. That gives you two months to make an appointment and get your shot. Remember to get your flu shot as well while you are there.

contra dance on Friday
#Dance
We had a bit of confusion about the plans for the dance this Friday, September 16. Things have now been worked out so I hope that everyone will come out and join us.
The dance will be at the Channing-Murray Foundation in Urbana as it has been all summer. Too Old To Be Controlled was scheduled, but they had to cancel so Matt Turino and Miriam Larson will be stepping in to play for the dance. I will be calling. This dance will feature gender-neutral calling. There will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30pm and the dance will start at 8. Bring your water bottle and a snack to share at the break! We still require that everyone wears a mask while inside the building and presents proof of up to date vaccination. That is the original vaccine and any boosters you are eligible for. I hope everyone will come out and join us for some fun music and dance. Jonathan |
