Thu Mar 28 5:30-7:30p Waltz class w/Jeanette Watts @ Allerton Music Barn, Monticello!!!
Urbana Country Dancers, will present a Waltz class this week:
Jeanette's description is below. Hoping you can join us! The waltz has been ¡°The Queen of All Dances¡± for over 200 years. While the dance changed drastically every 15-20 years, orbiting around your partner in 3/4 time never failed to be magical. This class will cover a waltz technique that has endured for a majority of waltz¡¯s history, called Progressive Waltz, Rotary Waltz, Viennese Waltz, and no doubt both The New Waltz and The Old Waltz. To break up the dizzying amount of turning, we will also discuss traveling while NOT turning, and a variety of period handholds to be done while traveling. |

summer dance camps
#Dance
There are a number of options for summer dance and music camps. Many include other sorts of activities such as crafts. In addition to the camps and programs run by the Country Dance and Song Society (CDSS), there are several other programs and camps, including:
- CDSS Camps (East Coast & MI): - Cumberland Dance Week (TN):? - The Swannanoa Gathering Programs (NC):? - Augusta Heritage Center (WV):?? - Ashokan?Music & Dance Camps (NY):?? - Bay Area Camps (CA): Sometimes the CDSS camps fill up. As a CDSS affiliate we are able to provide priority admission for a person or two for CDSS camps. There are many factors that go into deciding who gets in if a camp is over-subscribed. This would be an advantage that might make the difference. Let us know if you are planning on going to a camp this summer. The deadline for submitting the priority admission form is March 25. possible verification of email lists by groups.io
The Groups.io system is going through the process of verifying some of the email addresses on lists. It isn't clear if this will be all members on all lists, or just people with addresses that aren't one of the common ones such as gmail or outlook. At any rate you may get a message with the following subject line, "Action Required: Confirm Your Groups.io Membership to Continue Receiving Group Emails." If it has another subject line, it's likely a scam. If you get this message follow the instructions to verify your email. I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who does get this message, unless we all do, then I don't need everyone to let me know. I think you should only get the message once, even if you are on multiple lists.
I'll let you know if I hear more about the process. Jonathan |
contra dance Friday
#Dance
Our next contra dance will be this Friday, January 19 at the Channing-Murray Foundation, 1209 W. Oregon in Urbana. Miriam Larson and Matt Turino will be providing the music and the caller will be Karen Jackson from St. Louis. There will be some great music and fun dances, so I hope everyone will come out and join us. As usual there will be a short introduction to contra dance at 7:30 and then the dance will begin at 8:00. Bring your friends to join in the fun and snacks to share at the break.
There has been a change to the COVID policy for our dances. Unless otherwise specified all dances will be masks optional. There is only one dance this spring, on March 15, where masks will be required. If the COVID situation changes at some point this policy may also be changed, but for the time being masks will be optional at our dances. If you are looking for more dancing next weekend there will be an English country dance next Sunday, January 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Mansfield United Methodist Church at 200 East Illinois St. in Mansfield. We will be doing some easy dances and covering the basics of ECD so this would be a good time to give it a try. I hope to see everyone at one, or both, of the dances next weekend. Jonathan |

----- One of our beloved dancers, bright, funny, full of spunk, and engagement has died, just shy of 98 years old. Re: COVID alert
Dr. Ellen J. tested positive for COVID this morning. I noticed a couple of people coughing during the weekend including Tom who stayed with us. It was nice to dance without masks but maybe they would have been a good idea with the larger group. Ellen tested negative yesterday. A problem with covid is that latency period where you can spread it without knowing? you have it. Really a fun weekend. Great job of organizing.? Max
