Hi Ronda,
Welcome to the group. I hope you get a Toyota based motorhome
because I think they are great. They are just perfect for
what you want to do with it.
It is hard to give you an opinion on the '79 Travette because so
much of it depends on the condition of the camper. However, I
will tell you that I think the price is too high for the year model.
I paid $5900 for an '86 that needed a few things done to it. The
general concensus is that the later model units, say from 1985
on, are the best ones to get because they have the fuel injected
engine in them.
You can get a good idea of the value of used Toyota campers by
going the the website www.rvtraderonline.com.
I do not want to discourage you from buying the Travette if it is
a really nice unit, and everything works like it should. The main
concern that we have with the older units is the rear axle. The
original axle was inadequate for the weight of the camper and
contents. Toyota made a recall on them to install a one-ton truck
axle in them to correct the problem. You should check to see if
the Travette has the updated rear axle. You do this by counting
the number of lug bolts on the rear axle. If it only has five then
the axle has not been changed. It will have six lug bolts if
the axle has been updated.
Good Luck. Feel free to ask any Toyota camper question that comes
up. Several of the members have been camping a long time, and have
mucho experience.

I have never owned an RV before and I want something as a beginning
unit. I will not be goin on any long adventures... just to the lake and
within a 300 miles radius of my home. There is a 1979 Toyota Travette
with 50,000 miles for sale in the local area. They want $5000 for
it.Seems to be in good condition. I need advice. Is this a good price?
Is this a good RV? What am I getting myself into? I am looking for help
from all you experienced RVer's.
Thanks so much.
Rhonda
